9/11 - hardly any other date signifies an event and its global consequences to such an extent. Fifteen years later, Americans are still traumatized by the attacks and society deeply divided.

My sister lived in Manhattan until 2000, I went to see her around Christmas and the late 90s. I fell in love with Manhattan, it was so so beautiful and my favorite photo was of the Statue of Liberty with Twin Towers in the background. I will never go back there, nothing can replace those beautiful buildings and obviously I'm not even mentioning the many many many lives lost. Well they weren't lost they were murdered.

Dj Phantom well I don’t really get what your asking, I suppose the original comment or meant the void in a sense of nothing like the twin towers will ever top them, I meant in a more physical sense as I previously mentioned, the void of where the towers once stood is not filled, technically as you said it is by the memorial but not really filling where the towers once stood.

Wise People seek Peace and not war. No one wins at war. Since 2001, I personally feel our country has been in a decline. Sometimes your enemies want you to stop focusing on yourself and your society as a whole and this in return drains the entire culture and it's Freedoms as a whole. Always choose Kindness over Cruelty and see everyone as your equal as a fellow Human Being. A country divided against it's or who leads with fear can not Stand strong.

It’s not just Americans who remember where they were . I will never forget it , it was very early morning in Australia , several hours ahead of America and my mum called me distressed and told me to turn on the tv . At that point only the first plane had hit . I watched in horror as the second plane hit the other tower . I saw them come down . Never will I forget that day .

Not just every American remembers exactly where they were and what they were doing. every person on the planet who is English speaking remembers. I was a 5 year old girl in Australia, and even i remember exactly where i was and how i learned of this (my friends are the same). I imagine the worst reminders would come months after. All those missed appointments. Nobody to pick up dry cleaning or monthly prescriptions. People not showing up for work the week of. Cars left in the same spot for weeks, and you just knew... i cant imagine.

i saw something a while ago about the empty cars that were left in a parking lot where people would park and then commute to work. Like you said, it's not just the shock and devastation of the initial attacks, but also the menial reminders afterwards that are really haunting.

I agree. I was born in 1994, I was 7 when this happened. I'll never forget happily enjoying TV before my family came screamin into the loungeroom and booted me out of the way and spent the following day watching the news. I remember there was not a single channel that wasn't featuring this story. The amount of unease in society for a year later was remarkable. I can still feel it.

What a great video. Well made and presented. Just showing how all humans have to deal with trauma, most of which is stored within our minds. A good view into the lives of those having to cope with such trauma and the fall out. Mindfulness and wellbeing is a requirement of survival in our world, alongside the support of those around us.

Unless you are a native New Yorker, and were actually in NYC (or in Washington D.C.) on 9/11, it's REALLY HARD to FULLY comprehend the full scope of the trauma and the resulting effects 9/11 has REALLY, TRULY had. I tried to explain this recently to someone from somewhere else in the world who experienced 9/11 via the news media as a small child, and they were lamenting the effect 9/11 had on air travel being shut down for a few days and that 9/11 was a "global" event. While that's true, let's be real: the impact on the rest of the world was economic. The true human toll and traumatic aftermath and the disproportionate impact of 9/11 was concentrated in NYC & Washington DC. People that weren't there and experienced 9/11 through the news media experienced it second-hand vicariously, they weren't exposed to the first-hand trauma. I couldn't even bring myself to go near Ground Zero for a LONG, LONG, LONG time. And the SMELL that permeated lower Manhattan for weeks and weeks and months afterwards was literally, INDESCRIBABLE. And the hole in the skyline was 💔, UTTERLY devastating to see every day when I'd cross the Manhattan Bridge while commuting. I moved out to the San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California from NYC in the late summer/early fall of 2004, and before I left I visited Ground Zero for the first time since the attacks. It took me nearly three years to get there because I just couldn't deal with the enormity of the tragedy. I'd gone back to work in Manhattan on Monday, September 17th, just six days after the attacks, but I ACTIVELY avoided ALL of lower Manhattan below Canal St. (I worked in the Hudson Square area on Greenwich St. @ Canal so it wasn't easy because I worked only about 13 blocks north of where the WTC had been) for YEARS. I COULD NOT go below Canal St., because it was just TOO CLOSE. I'd have panic and anxiety attacks if I was on the subway and we were stopped in a tunnel in lower Manhattan, or if I had to transfer trains in lower Manhattan; I just couldn't do it, I'd have to go further uptown to do so. I freaked out once on the PATH train going to visit my best friend from college in New Jersey because someone had accidentally left a package on the train seat and I thought it was a bomb. It actually turned out to be a holiday cheesecake. It's funny in retrospect, but it's not funny at the same time. I freaked out having to drive on the bridges or through the tunnels -- I thought they'd strike again at ANY moment. ANY loud noise made me jump in my skin. It was COMPLETELY HORRIBLE. That's what 9/11 did to THOUSANDS & THOUSANDS of New Yorkers, myself included. That's the kind of traumatic response you have to experiencing first-hand trauma, SO, I knew what I was experiencing, but that didn't make it any easier. Like she said: "I have good days and bad days. When it gets really bad, I go see my son." I can DEFINITELY relate.

RIP, here in Boston we have a memorial for the 303 of Massachusetts who died that day, I visit every 9/11 and pray for them, that day tested my faith like no other time, but God is my strength and we live on, the lost souls would've wanted that. 🙏🌎🇺🇸

say, I was visiting a museum the other day, It was a trolley museum, that is besides the point. They had something that survived the attack, the subway system had a station right beneath the twin towers, it was part of a ten car train, and it was the only one that survived the towers falling on top of the station, each door had one of the four lines running into that station marked. Never forget.

Its sad to see how 2 planes hitting 2 buildings on 1 day has affected the world in different ways and how it lead to an actual war, its terrifying to see the consequences of just a few peoples actions. Even individual people are effected in different ways, the first responders suffer with things such as anxiety, depression and PTSD, even things such as cancer and other illnesses. Its horrible to see.

I was in middle school. I was in math class and it was supposed to be a math test day and my teacher came and got me out of class and took me to the school library. My math test was canceled. I was taken to the school library and, my academic assistant who was also a student in ISS was waiting in the hallway and we went to the school library and I saw what happened. At first, I thought it was an accident. I actually said, "Like wow! That's the craziest accident I have ever seen in my whole life!" That was until the second tower got hit and then I realized that it was terrorist attack. When the towers collapsed, that was when I realized the magnitude of the attack. I never forgot that.

I love how people came together. New Yorkers came together to help each other. Before that, people from NY were stereotyped as just being jerks. it wasn't true. The way everyone came together in a time of crisis showed that it didn't matter about anything people superficially place value in such as ethnicity or socioeconomic status, everyone was there helping each other no matter what.

I'm starting to get sick of people who are blessed with longevity comPLAINing about how bad it is to be allowed to live. And I was "marginalized" the day I was born with a "disability." Eric was one of the people who didn't treat me different in a bad way just because I had a semi-noticeable disability. And it doesn't matter how many years pass bc DEAD like DIAMONDS means forever. Fifteen years from now, he's still going to be dead, still with no remains.

"Divide and conquer" is happening since 9/11, but people all around the world are too blind to see. Instead of seeing the world leaders as the evil ones, we are turning against each other. My country has gone through war 30 years ago ... people were having coffee as neighbours one day, the second day they were blind of hate due to political agenda and gone to the war against each other... The same thing is happening today with the pandemic... keeping people apart and dividing them "for their health" is not something we, as humans, should agree to...

No investigation of this..his taking out 'terrorism ' insurance for 100 times the value of the building; he couldn't be at work that day because of a dental appointment; his 2 children who both worked there and were coincidentally 'late' ONLY that day. And he knew they were going to 'pull' building 7 (what?!!). And there is Bush, leaving Florida to fly 3 hours to Texas while Dick Cheney ran everything (refusing to issue shootdown orders, lying about his whereabouts and timings and the heads of norad etc that couldn't be found until everything was over. He insured NO ONE was in charge that day to ensure mission success: .that was his function and he did that admirably. Saudis (hypothetically) financed by saudi arabia but the USA invades Afghanistan and Iraq in response. And while others flights were grounded, one lone plane with 120 Saudis aboard including Osama's brother was allowed to leave. Makes sense, right? And no one even questions all this... How stupid can you be to buy this shit?

I love how the program described the Mcnaughton family as conservative Republican family, and this may be true. However, you will not see any equivalent programs describe people as "liberal democrat", just one example of how shows force you to view content through their prism. In short, they make that family to look like the exception and not the rule.

@14:20 - I may disagree with him, his views on the War, and on his support of Donald Trump. He may hate me for being an immigrant, being pro-Peace, for voting for Hillary - but if given the chance, I would love to shake that Man, and his Wife's hands and offer them thanks for providing a Son that was brave enough, and tough enough, and Patriotic enough to fight for my Freedoms, Liberty, and Rights. I may not agree with the War, but I will never turn my back on a Soldier, his Family, and his Legacy. As an American, despite what one Presidential candidate will have you believe, this is a rather Universal attitude. To that Family, and to that Young Man, thank you. I may not always agree with you, but if there is one thing this piece taught me was that His Example is that we all belong, and we all have the right and responsibility to defend who and what We Are. Again, from a Liberal - thank you, and may God Bless Your Son.

We do not all want the same thing. Our God does not call on us to kill others who are different (though He permits us to fight to defend ourselves). Eric Bennett lost his life when he was 29. He will never be 30 years old. He was going to celebrate his 30th birthday by going to the World Series in October, 2001 but 5 weeks before it happened, THIS occurred. You can't even imagine how upsetting it was to read a line from some reporter, saying that "the World Series is a chance for New Yorkers to finally move on from the terrible thing that happened on September 11." Really? I thought. Then I wondered what happened to his tickets he'd bought since he couldn't use them anymore.

I don't condone hating all Muslims, absolutely not. I have had positive and negative experiences with that group, as I have with all people. One great memory that stands out was when I was at work. I was sad because my grandmother was dying of cancer and it showed in my demeanor and expression. A regular customer who was Islamic came in with his grandson, like he did everyday. He always bought candy for this little boy. He was always gentle to me. He saw I was upset and asked me what was wrong. I told him and he gave me his Tasbih, a prayer bead like the Catholic Rosary beads. They were dark red and beautiful. He said to pray with these and they might help me find peace. I'm not religious in any faith, though my family is Catholic. However, that meant so much to me. He said, "Don't be sad. You are my sister and God has a place for all of us when we die." I want to cry remembering that. I know why people here are distrustful and angry but I also know the good and that man exemplifies that. Please remember that the Islamic people suffered when extremists ruined what their religion and culture stand for.

The owner then made me an appointment the next week to fix my brakes. The next week going back to the shop the owner and mechanics wouldn't take my money at all to fix my car! The we and the mechanics kind of became friendly after that! God Bless the thankless mechanics!

I believe this is what bothers most Americans that none of the Muslim clerics are speaking out against such outrageous attacks.
