As you tend to keep the same settings to master your hand usage and as you used the wireless solnova on this tattoo I would have a few questions? Does the weight distribution of the batteries bring you any inconvenience? Information on the manufacturer web page about vibration measurement will show that the wireless one vibrate little bit more. Did you feel something? And finally, any feedback about the steady and sensi possibilities ? Love your work.

Oh man, I never really paid attention to any of those since I went from Xion pen to the sol nova. I just got used to the sol nova and didn't think much about all that. I didn't know the wireless vibrated more than the wired version. Maybe it's because I never used the wired version that I didn't think like you did. Appreciate the info

I could do this with 3Rl too yes but I prefer single because it is different for many reasons. A few reasons are, you can see the needle very clearly hitting the skin, smaller ink "pixels" and less skin resistance when the needle pierces the skin.

stupid question but how do u get the stencil light purple like u have it? It's kind of hard seeing where the ink is with the dark purple stencil.

I use photoshop to correct the tones before printing it out on my epson printer with the stencil ink. Sometimes the image is too dark so I have to lighten it. or too light and I have to darken it.

Your line work is so crisp! Do you line a non-lettered piece the same way? In small light strokes? Keep up the great content!

Yes I do! But if a design needs harder larger strokes I would use that too if it requires. I use many techniques to get the job done as best as I can. So small light strokes is just one of multiple.

Do you run your machine at a slower voltage? I want to be able to do this style with my machine that has a 4mm stroke but i worry about the fact that 4mm is so hard hitting that it’ll harm the skin with this etching or carving method. But it seems like the better route for accuracy instead of trying to get it in a single pass. Any insight would be appreciated 🙏🏽

I would recommend a 3.5 stroke or lower if you're having trouble with damaging skin. And make sure the machine isn't "packer" or a strong machine. I run my 3.5 sol nova on 7V

yes no problem. 7V, the normal mode(non blinking), and 3.5stroke I use this with the 12-01RL LT Kwadron brand single needle And regular Dynamic black ink

Im barely at 7:39 but I've got a question I heard you take breaks about every 1hr 30 min into each session. How would you go about taking a break? And what do you do to the tattoo right before the break?

I usually step away so my eyes and mind can reset a little. Sometimes things look funny when you look at it for so long. I usually wipe the tattooed area with green soap before I take the break. It cleans the ink better than the ointment I use to wipe while tattooing. But I'm careful not to wipe the stencil with the green soap since it wipes off very easily as opposed to ointment.

there are many things. Voltage, machine type, stroke type, ink flow, depth, speed, skill, cartridge brand/quality, needle gauge and taper. There is a lot so I can't tell you an easy answer 😅

@@Kempgriffey I have not but I don't think I would like it to be honest. Unless I'm going for that sharp dotted whip shading style I'd try it but I'm going for more smooth look. I tried going a higher voltage on my 3.5 and it gives that stronger dotted look too so I stay away from even that.

I think the most difficult things are the serifs in letters with only one width ( mostly they not printed accurately in the stencils) to make them not crooked and straight on every letter and the Os to look balanced not 0s. Do you have a special tactic for that ?

I know what you mean. Its pretty much experience and being very careful even with all that experience. It's just really tricky. And the way the skin stretches while you tattoo vs when you release and let it sit naturally, it may be deceptive. so constantly check it in its relaxed state and make adjustments

Ah ok 0603 I never tried that but thank you for sharing that it is close to 1, I might want to try. Yes around.5mm and at most around 1.2mm. shallower is better for 1rl and lower voltage and softer machine.

Regarding the 0603 needle it will depend on the brand, I'm using Fundamental because it's thiner than other brands and it works really well. I tried other brands in the market but I they are thicker, even Emalla.

I just discovered your channel! It is a hidden gem, spectacular fine work!For a tattoo apprentice , how long it should take until one can dare to try the 1 liner? Many say to sray away even from a 3 liner as an apprentice. What would be your suggestion for developing fine line skills?

Hmm everyone is different so all I can do is give you my personal experience. I always liked to draw small tiny detailed drawings since I was a kid and very obsessive with perfection. I always used very thin lead pencil or sharp pencil. I never used iPad. I started tattooing with roundliners 5 and up and about 4 years in I started doing 3RL work. After another 1-2 years I began playing with 1RL. So master 5+RL before moving to 3RL and master 3RL before moving to 1RL. For your situation now, focus on the larger liners starting out as a tattoo artist because at the same skill level, using a larger needle group will come out cleaner vs using a smaller needle grouping. By that logic, why would you choose the needle group that will give you worse lines? Draw A LOT and be patient. Hand train every way you can like hand stenciling vs thermal or printing stencils. Try not to be too fixated on fine-line yet because that mind state will make you rush the needed process to get there. That's the general answer I can give you. Also the apprenticeship you have is huge so absorb as much as you can from it.

I am used to isograph pen, 0.1 mm from rotring and I love to do pointillism. I draw a lot, I really make an effort to keep my passion for drawing alive, not to just do stencils and tattoos. For the moment I have to stay grounded and respect the process, because I felt overwhelmed that simple designs I would call doodles on paper are difficult on skin for me as an apprentice. I will follow your channel for sure, it is truly a gem because I can look at the entire tattoing process in real time, and that is awesome. You inspire me and I am sure that I will improve with a lot of practice. It is like I changed the brush and the canvas, replacing it with a tattoo machine and human skin. Fine line is what I am drawn to, especially towards botanical illustration. So mastering lines is key. Thank you so much for your feedback , you are a kind person 🤗

I can find it in my google calendar records. I charged $800 at the time. more expensive since I worked at a high end shop and get a percentage there and economy was stronger. I think now I would charge maybe $500-600? I'm at my own private place now and economy sucks atm lol. All these things affects pricing.

Yep 3.5 Around 7volts with this machine(Sol Nova). 7 Volts might be too much or too little depending on the type of machine/machine tuning and/or stroke you're using. For example a bishop packer is much stronger at 7V. Many factors so it may not be as simple.

Is it safe to use a 1rl with a 4.2 stroke machine?

I've never done it but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have fast confident stroke. reason being if it hits hard with a single needle and you are slow, it will cut the skin. I would recommend 3.5 stroke and a soft machine like sol nova as opposed to something like a packer. Again, there are people who use single with a harder hitting machine, they are more experienced and are fast and confident with their strokes.

I wanted to try using a 3 bug pin liner in place of my single needle to see if I can get better control or cleaner lines. Can you suggest if long medium or short taper is good for this? Also what taper is better on the skin with mags? Thank you.

dang I don't know too much about tapers. I only know that I use a 1201(#35 single needle) with a long taper. It has worked well for me. whether a smaller or larger taper will give me better or worse results, I don't know.

yes low voltage is better for single needle because it pierces the skin so easily vs multiple needles. Unless you are whipping really fast then a little higher voltage is okay but that is if you want a more dotted, whipped look. go lower with single!

spelling errors yes I remember all four times I did this in my career. Mistakes like not clean lines or shading, barely anymore. There are also many tricks to mask mistakes but that has to be the plan B. First thing is to be as careful, prepares, trained and attempting safe projects as much as possible

@@Kisachamp7 haha I can only give you a general idea. You can be clever and go with the flow of the mistake but it must be a small mistake so you aren't trapped in a bad situation. Make sure you are very disciplined and careful so that you ONLY make small mistakes and never big mistakes. this is IF you even get the chance to make a mistake because you have to make sure you don't make any in the first place. You can also be very light handed and if you happen to make a bad mark, it is light enough to mask it or maybe it won't even become permanent.

It's the way to check up if the ink it's correctly injected or not because the gloves are made of a different material than the napkin that is softer. Also, he can't cleaner it as usual because it's a really small design and the transfer will dessapear in a blink of an eye
