its so refreshing to see someone who has found his path show the way he did it. I'm currently getting into fineline and everything you are posting helps me. i instantly saw improvements in my technique just from watching you do it and listening to your advice. i made a huge document in a sketchbook where i collect all the information. Thats something i can really recommend for everybody. Its the second most important thing when learning something besides actually practicing, in my opinion. thank you so much.

Happy you're doing better cause of the vids. I really love that you're keeping a sketchbook. It's like taking notes vs not taking notes in school. It's all there for you to look back on and practice and train muscle memory. All I can do is preach and recommend but can't force anyone. Just hope everyone does this. Everything is instant gratification and laziness now. And Appreciate the encouraging words from you it keeps me going.

Hey was wondering what your current gear is? Couldn't find a vid on that or an answered question around that. Any reccs on mid level machines for single needle fine line tattoos?
@jjjaylud
@jjjaylud Жыл бұрын
I don't mind answering. Thats a good question. I currently use a Sol Nova Unlimited 3.5 stroke at the "45 degree tilt" setting which is about 6-6.5V im thinking. They don't have a number display for volt, they use a fancy tilting system to adjust voltage. And I always use Kwadron 12-01RL Long taper. Thats high end. I used a Xion Pen before that and its cheaper but its still mid/high end. The sol nova compared to the Xion is a bit softer/smoother so its worth it for me since I use single needle. Mid level machines I'm not too aware of atm. I used to use coil machines but I don't recommend those for small needle groupings. Just be very careful of machines that are too strong or using too high voltage for single/3rl work..

Hey Jason! Just came across your amazing channel, im thinkig of getting my first fineline tattoo but Im wondering how long would fineline tattoos last in general? I heard that they fade faster than traditional tattoos
@jjjaylud
@jjjaylud 2 жыл бұрын
It's sort of a myth but not really so leme explain in detail. So if you imagine each particle that makes up the tattoo, and lets say execution was same for both trad and fineline, so not poorly executed, then they all fade and blur the exact same. It's just that traditional has more "pixels" so the rendered image will hold longer over time since far away you can make out the image better if its bigger size. That's the first thing Next is, fineline is more difficult so you'll notice that they fade more because of poor execution from overall fineline tattoo artists. Also note that even traditional Tatts can be poorly executed its just they have more room for mistakes. I have a thick lined tattoo on my own shoulder that was too deep and it blew out/blurred.. So for my tattoos, Yes I do work with a single needle but I try my best to not go TOO small anymore so the details have room and hold out longer. And my execution is consistent as you can see from all the healed photos I post on my IG. So they won't last as long because its a smaller size but that's one big thing that makes fineline fineline. If you want it to last longer, then traditional or bigger scale is for you(I love getting trad on my own body). That's the best answer I can give!

@@jjjaylud I am not sure, if it is okay to ask, but just cause you mentioned him and you are my favorite artist anyway, wanna ask you about Pawel's technic. I can't figure out if he's using a white ink with greywash / or just greywashes for gradients? Your detailed and gental pixelated technic and his dark smooth gradiets mesmerizes me the most
@jjjaylud
@jjjaylud 2 жыл бұрын
@@vladlabyrinth6335 im honestly not sure if he uses greywash or not. My guess is yes? because 1RL or 3RL with only black is very uncommon. And If he does then he does use greywash, he does it very very well. I cannot say 100% but that is my guess

Bro can I please explain how to hold a machine the right way and the wrong way 🙏 this whole time I’m holding it up words and I been shaking a lot
@jjjaylud
@jjjaylud 2 жыл бұрын
hmm.. If you're shaking a lot then you need to practice/train more. draw A LOT and hand stencil everything. train on pig skin and fake skin too. you cannot rush this because if you do you will just produce shaky tattoos. you must invest the time to train.

hello, I have watched all your videos several times, I really like your 1rl technique, but it is difficult, and I would like to learn how to work 3 rl first. In answering questions, you praised the tattoo master PAWELindulski and he, like you, also works with one black ink without greywash? Thank you
@jjjaylud
@jjjaylud Жыл бұрын
Yes very good idea to master the 3RL first before 1RL. I did this too. I asked him if he uses 3 or 1 and he says 3. As for greywash, I want to say he uses it? I'm not sure about that. If he does, he makes great use of it, very clean. I might want to consider using it too one day in the future. It's all preference, only thing is it heals differently so we just need to be aware of this. I'm just very used to using all black ink and know how it heals

@@jjjaylud I have been following you for six months and subscribed to your instagram. you are a very hardworking tattoo artist. 1 rl is a complex technique and looking at other masters in this 1 rl technique, their work does not look as soft and smooth as yours. Your works, a year after healing, still remain without large pixels and with smooth transitions. 🙌

I have been an advanced Microblading technician in my own business for over 5 years and looking to expand into fine line tattoo. Also, I am a true artist with drawing/painting background my whole life. Any advice or tips? Wondering if because I use a handheld nano 18u needles and create very small hairlike strokes...wondering if that would benefit me for hand control when creating fine lines in tattoo work. Thank you! Any feedback is much appreciated.
@jjjaylud
@jjjaylud Жыл бұрын
Yes I think it will give you an advantage. But not enough. With tattoos there are many more motions and techniques since micro blading is only for hairlike strokes. With tattooing you will need to fill in dark areas, light grey layers, gradients transitioning from light to dark, thicker lines as well as thinner lines. Not to mention you should be good at drawing first too. I would recommend you find a mentor and it doesn't even have to be fineline. Even a traditional mentor will teach you things you need to know in the tattooing world. Learning alone is prone to many mistakes and blind spots and also makes you to not be able to submit to a teacher as a student. Humility pretty much. Apprenticeship is the best way in my opinion. This is a long process and can't be rushed if you want serious results.
@jjjaylud
@jjjaylud Жыл бұрын
Ah you said you already have a lot of experience with drawing and painting. very very good. This will come in handy in many ways, you will see. Now you just need to be proficient with the tattoo medium.
@jjjaylud
@jjjaylud Жыл бұрын
From what you tell me, I think you can get away with being self taught.. but I never like to recommend this.. There are many other things you can learn with an apprenticeship.
