too many times this year we've seen plays where it's impossible to know if the ball crossed the goal line. It shouldn't be asking too much to stick one camera on each goal line for a definitive view.
@MrCho14
@MrCho14 9 ай бұрын
People keep saying that, but there used to be cameras in the posts. What we saw was that cameras that close to the play have to calibrated really well to useful. Not looking down the line exactly gives false information similar to how offside calls are deceptive unless the camera is lined up well. Here, however, a cm off can be horrible. Now, would it be better? Probably, it certainly wouldn't stop people from arguing it was wrong still on pretty much every call.
@petertsolymosi

@@MrCho14 my personal opinion is for cameras mounted some distance from goal looking straight down the goal line. It wouldn’t provide evidence in every situation as the ball could be obscured by a player but it may help in some situations and even that would be an improvement over the current camera angles.
@MrCho14

@@petertsolymosi I agree this would help. I must have read into your question b/c I thought you mentioned go-pro on the goal. I see that suggestion every time this comes up. I'm not sure what the issue with that would be. The cost of that seems like it wouldn't be huge. Is placement in some stadiums an issue? Maybe in NY?

Not only did the ref miss two handballs in the Atlanta United game against Philadelphia but he also allowed a free kick while still talking to players on Atlanta United's team about a foul. They did a quick free kick for a goal as half the team were still talking to him and even the camera crew missed the goal because they were focused on the ref and AU players. How is that possible?

Players don't have a right to delay the other team's restart, whether by standing in front of the ball, kicking it away/holding it, or ref confrontation. Sorry that the ATL players didn't have their heads in the game, but while the players attempted to delay, the referee was LITERALLY pointing to the ball to let everyone know there was a restart. Hopefully Gonzo had some words with them after the match.

@@rockinmel1 You are 100% incorrect. The ref stopped play and was reaching for his spray can to setup a line for a free kick. He was literally counting off the steps to set up the line when Philly restarted play. THE REF HAD STOPPED PLAY AND TOLD THE PLAYERS ON BOTH TEAMS TO NOT RESTART UNTIL HE BLEW HIS WHISTLE! The ref for that game was absolute garbage.

I was hoping we'd have a delayed offside flag that was neither clearly offside nor clearly onside, so we could participate in the current worldwide debate where we blame VAR but the problem was actually lazy delayed offside flags when ARs don't actually see offside, because the VAR will clean up the AR's mess, right?

The analysis on the inter miami clip is incorrect. The question isn’t one of DOGSO, but one of DOG. Did the shot deny an obvious goal? If yes it’s a red card, if not it’s a yellow card. There is no “opportunity” because the shot has already been taken. In my opinion this isn’t denying an obvious goal, because there is a goalkeeper and possible defenders that can block the shot so yellow is correct.

Love that you didn't sugar coat the first hand ball for Atlanta, but my question is, what can be done? That's a blatant mistake that VAR should have easily caught, yet they didn't even take him to the monitor. That might have cost Atlanta the game. Is there any repercussions? These mistakes happen so often, with nothing being done to fix them

Internally, this will surely be addressed with the VAR referees to help ensure more consistent outcomes moving forward. But frankly, it was not an error that would warrant any further action. I can easily see why that wasn’t sent down.

Zimmerman flops too much. He would have a better chance of his team scoring if he just continued his runs but he's always looking for the penalty on corners and almost never gets them.

I think this flop was a "hey, I was just fouled," type of flop. He's not trying to earn a "foul," he's trying to draw attention to a foul that may not have been noticeable if he had stayed up.

*Gerardo Martino:* Well, I’ll start off by saying this. Do not blame that game on the defense, OK? I don’t care who you play, whether it’s a high school team, a junior college team, a college team, much less an MLS team. When you turn the ball over multiple times-with most in field position to set up goals-you ain’t going to beat anybody I just talked about. Anybody. And that was a disgraceful performance in my opinion. We threw that game. We gave it away by doing that. We gave them the freaking game. In my opinion, that sucked. You can’t turn the ball over that many times like that. Holy crap! I don’t know who the hell we think we are when we do something like that. Unbelievable. What's that? Ah, playoffs?! Don't talk about the playoffs! You kidding me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a game. Another game.

0.45: as usual, could not disagree with you more. Running fast, trying to stop and pivot, the arms come up and out to help with balance and change of direction. Totally natural.

I don't claim to understand what is handling and what is not these days, but people get stuck on 'natural position'. There's more to it with 'outside the silhouette' often referenced as well. In general, I think it's pretty consistent in how it's called even if we get stuck on certain words to debate. In this example, he could have let the ball go cleanly behind him but he slowed and turned. That brought his arm out which got hit. I'm okay with this one.
