It's also so self-defeating. Parents that are more open and relaxed with their kids, and don't create a culture of fear, end up being let in to their kids lives. They don't need to pry and interrogate them, they will come to you for help when things get rough. But when they are so oppressive and paranoid it gives the kids no where to go and further pushes them to possibly worse influences since they know they can't rely on their parents help.

I'm so glad I live in a house that respects privacy, I was able to hide my hrt until I was comfortable coming out without worrying about my mum rummaging through my stuff and finding it. It made me feel so much more comfortable the whole time. My mum is awesome, I wish all parents could take a leaf out of her book. Privacy matters! Even if your kids are hiding weed, they should feel comfortable in their own home! If your kids respect you then they're also far more likely to be open about that stuff if they know you're not just gonna freak out and punish them, but instead just talk to them about it.

I live in a rural area where it is mandatory to have a vehicle. Many Tribal Reservations are also near me as well. In June of 2022, when he did that publicity stunt of crushing the moped/bike/scooter/motorbikes it enraged me. That would have been absolutely life changing for people up here and in other rural areas. We have zero options for public transportation here - zero. That is the difference of employment and getting to and from work. That is the difference of getting affordable medicine or any medicine at all. That is the difference in getting healthy and affordable food - albeit it would only be what you would be able to carry in a backpack. A small thing like that, which many people don't even think about, is life changing for people out here. And to watch it literally be destroyed, en masses, was devestating. Why would anyone destroy something that works when others can use it? It's beyond a selfishness I cannot begin to understand and hope I never will.

It requires a lot of monitoring and being very specific with your consumption as well as a nutritionist to help you plan. It also does not cure you and your diabetes came come back even if you maintain this diet.

Pretty clear he's over-dramatising his diabetes recovery. Speaking as someone with diabetic family members (I've spent a lot of time learning about this for their health), it's far more likely he was pre-diabetic or still in a VERY early stage - meaning his body still had a chance to "reverse" it with the right diet. If he'd continued his diet he'd never have reversed it, but because he spoke to doctors at a point before it was actually too severe he was able to save himself. No doubt it's good he did, but he's spreading a lot of misinformation with this story

Re: the type 2 diabetes thing, it is absolutely possible to *manage* type 2 diabetes with diet alone, but it is *not* possible to reverse the complications of diabetes (vision impairment, nerve pain) with diet alone. One of the main goals of treating/managing diabetes is to prevent these complications from happening because they're irreversible once they occur. If he had just said he managed it with his diet alone, I wouldn't have bat an eye. But the claims that it restored his vision damage make it clear he's heavily embellishing (ie lying) the benefits of his diet ALSO the diet that can manage type 2 diabetes is a low sugar diet, not a plant-based diet. Not a single part of his story makes sense

I am diabetic, neural damage you get from diabetes don't heal, you can only slow down the damage and even prevent you from getting new damage. Total cure with diet isn't a thing, type 2 can go away with goof diet and exercise, loosing weight and reduce stress, but damaged caused by the diabetes will not go away it is permanent. I am now symptom free because a combo of diet, exercise and medication. but my nerve damage and damaged eye sight is still there and will never go away.

My fiancée’s cousin had lots of issues with her dad not being respectful of her privacy and also operated on a “no locked doors” policy. She always felt like she was unworthy of being trusted by her dad to be responsible, and learned not to trust him either. One time her dad found some weed in her room and decided to remove her bedroom door entirely to ensure she couldn’t hide anything else. She had to keep coming up with more extreme methods of hiding things from her parents out of fear that she would be punished, even though they were not at all harmful to her safety. She still has trust issues to this day with pretty much everybody because of the damage her father did trying to “protect” her.
