Thank you for doing this video. Homeschooling in NY has been a stress point for me. We’ve homeschooled in two other states and it was a lot “easier”. I will be submitting our first quarterly report in a week or so. 🙏 we don’t run into any problems! Blessings from CNY 🤗

You’re welcome! All will go well, you’ve got this! If you happen to run into any problems, consider contacting HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association). They have been an amazing resource for our family.

Do I type up a 9th graders the same way? Just using units instead?
@beyondthebookshomeschool22 күн бұрын
Yes, don’t worry about the term “units” you don’t have to put that. Just write whatever you have covered in each subject area and you’re good to go! 😊

Can you suggest any resources or curriculum for NYS history? And how long did you cover that, a whole quarter? Longer?

This is tough to interpret from the homeschooling point of view bc it says to teach it “once” during the first 8 grades. I used to be a public school teacher, and I taught New York State history in 4th grade all year round. I personally am stuck in that mindset so I would think 1 year of NYS history is sufficient. I haven’t personally used a specific curriculum but instead have used a number of different books, encyclopedias, reputable websites to teach about the Native American tribes in our state, immigrants coming to Ellis Island, the history of slavery and Rochester’s ties to the Underground Railroad. This is a tough question to answer, but I hoped this helped a little bit. I wouldn’t think it over too much and sprinkle a little here and there about famous landmarks, state parks, and people.

Great advice, I know what you mean, that "once" line threw me haha. In our local schools they seem to sprinkle NYS history through 4th, 7th & 8th. Thanks for your help! @@beyondthebookshomeschool

Do you have a copy of the blank reports, quarterly, ihip, etc
@beyondthebookshomeschool9 ай бұрын
I created those in a google doc. Then I just copy and paste next time I need to send in to my district. If you’d like I can send you a copy via email.

What do I put in the quarterly report for practical arts and library skills? I feel like it would just be the same as the IHIP...? Help

Is this for a middle school student?
@beyondthebookshomeschool9 ай бұрын
For my middle schooler I have put things like: Practical Arts: maintain savings account, fill out deposit slip, make regular deposits into savings account, read recipes, cook basic meals, help care for younger siblings, participates in 4H group. Library skills: select grade appropriate novels from the local library, interact with librarian, use the search function for checking out books, uses his own library card, uses the library drop box, knows how to borrow books with interlibrary loan, safe internet usage, research skills, credible websites for research. I put all of that for every quarter because that’s what we do all year long, so it doesn’t change for us. It stays the same on every quarter report.
