The reason: a huge amount of business travel between the two cities. That's why for the first half ot the 20th Century, railroad connections between New York City and Los Angeles via Chicago was highly competitive and important, and why when American Airlines introduced their 17 hour service between the two cities in 1937 it immediately revolutionized travel, even using small DC-3.

I've taken Delta and United for this journey, I must say I love the United 787-10 which was the most common plane type I'd travel on. Also got the flying pencil ;) which is a favorite too. That LaGuardia permitter rule is hilarious and something I didn't know.

I travel between coasts frequently for work and always try to book a widebody. Always a better experience. However I don’t mind the 757.

I always refer to this route as the "Celebrity Express". Artists who prefer to live in NYC and commute to LA for work.

I recently did EWR-LAX on a United 787-10. I definitely would say it was a good experience

I flew the Newark to LAX route once, by United. Initially, it was delayed for 2-3 hours because United was waiting for catering. Annoying, but no biggie, I thought at the time. After finally getting that done and over with, everyone got boarded, the plane was already taxi'ed and readied to take off, and then we had to be shipped back because apparently "the pilots ran out of hours to fly". So we came back and waited for another ~6 hours so United could find a new set of crew who could fly. When I finally got back to my home in LA, it was around 5 AM. So yeah.

I voluntarily take a train to London to use Heathrow when going to the USA. Neither of my local airports (Bristol and Cardiff) are especially convenient.
@jantjarks794620 күн бұрын
It's exactly how the little local airport with just three bridges works here. Easy to get to, close to a highway. Easy to get a parking lot, if lucky even for free. Little to no waiting times and short walks due to the small layout. Barely any noise compared to the large airports. Drawbacks are, if a neighboring airport is clogged, a lot of traffic is diverted, quickly clogging the small airport too. A limited number of connections, as filling up the smaller planes in a small airport is still a challenge. Many people are still not aware of the advantages and simply go to the large airports, out of tradition already. This is changing already, but it still takes time.

WAIT WAIT WAIT HOLD UP- Where the hell did the Cathay Pacific freedom flight from Hong Kong go??? I swear I remember Cathay have a route where they fly a B777 from Hong Kong first landing at LAX before continuing onwards to JFK. Do they not do that route anymore?
@kkw223720 күн бұрын

Also Philadelphia which is an alternative to the New York airports as well has flights to Los Angeles (LAX) on American (Which mainly operates the flights with the Airbus A321, or Boeing 737-800 or MAX8), and Spirit Airlines. But it’s not as lucrative as the fights from JFK or EWR.
@seprishere20 күн бұрын
Not really, unless Birmingham is considered an alternative to the London airports.

@@TysonIke Philly is no doubt quite far from Manhattan, and whatever high-speed rail there may be doesn't have the speed of Japan's bullet trains.
