Italy can also be really crazy when it comes to traffic and lights. As a German young girl working and walking in Rome/Italy, it took me half an hour to cross a street, since the cars always ignored the lights and pedestrians. The Italians though were crossing effortless using their instinct, communicating with the drivers, making eye contact and stop gestures with their hands. It looked very elegant and they quickly arrived on the other side without any problem. Thankfully some understood my problem, taught me the "sign language" and took me by the hand to cross the street. ❤

Same thing in Switzerland. I guess you can pick a map from Transparency International and it will give you the attitude of people toward traffic lights. What Trevor Noah said about traffic lights in New York City was absolutely correct. I was an OTR Truck driver and I can remember arriving at at my destination in downtown Manhattan. and I was early and I remember stopping for some reason. and while I was stopped I was talking to this cop. and I couldn't believe what he said about people in the crosswalk. he said if you come up to the intersection and there's someone in the crosswalk. and the traffic light turns red you have to stop. but if you come up to the intersection and the light is green you run them over. and the cops will take the body to the morgue. the reason for this is that people who live in New York City. know damm well not to be in the crosswalk when the light is green. and that if I did stop this person was planning to rip me off. I was shocked to hear this but it's the truth. anyway in all the trips I made to New York City I never had this happen. but it's a good thing that the cop told me about it.
