Yes, Love Shelter Island and Port Jefferson. Those would be two great places I haven't seen in years and would LOVE to see again!!!! I used to climb the dunes at Port Jeff when I was a kid.

I lived on Long Island from 1972 until 1994 and I drove out to the Hamptons when I was a teenager and even took a ferry to Fire Island, but never really scouted out the different towns out there. My boyfriend owned several outboard motor boats at different times, and we spent time out on the south shore almost every day in the spring, summer and fall. Short Beach and Zach's Bay were favorites places of ours, and we even dropped anchor and slept out there too. Port Jefferson Harbor on the north side was a nice place to visit, and although I never did it, there's a ferry that goes to Connecticut. Good times.

Oh! I grew up in Southampton! In a little community called North Sea. There is a small local beach called Rose’s Grove that I visited every day when I was little. I wish you could have seen how lovely some of the beaches are. Happy traveling!

Yes! I found a map book that is all backroads and public access lands/parks/historical markers. It also has family owned businesses to visit. Fun for backroads and scenic route trips off the main highways kind of stuff. I'm sure there's one for New York state!
