Dude if u spent 20 + days in nyc, u spent more time here than most people will. I have lived in nyc 25 years and i still LOVE it. I felt the same way about Paris but i was lucky enough to fly to paris 6 times for work.

I .love that you found the people to be so friendly. My husband and I lived in NYC from July of 2000 until February of 2003 (yup, that period) and everybody told us we'd hate it because people were so angry. We ended not liking living there because we found that we're much happier in smaller cities, but every single day we met wonderful kind-hearted friendly people and never any angry or mean people. And around the time of 9/11, the way the city get together. We still love to visit. We also spent a similar amount of time in Edinburgh on and off from the mid-1990s and early 2000s, and we love Edinburgh as well. One of the reasons I love your channel ... So I found you because of something you did on Edinburgh, and I love that you love NY. :-) Great videos.

Nan Zingrone thanks so much for your kind comments. I think the reality is good people are everywhere if we have the right attitude - people who go to NY looking for rude people will probably find them
@NanZingrone6 жыл бұрын
I agree totally. My husband and I had that conversation once, a few months into living in NYC, trying to figure out why we weren't running into all these terrible people everybody talks about, and we decided it was that, we never expected people to be rude, and they just never were. It was really a great experience.

I just now watched your take on New York and share the same sentiments for both New York AND Scotland. Scotland left such an impression on me that I now feel a great attachment to the country and long to go back one day. To find what made my surname Buchanan was a journey that culminated into a true understanding of both the heritage and pride inherent in the name. My heart has a void that keeps drawing me back to Scotland and confirms your theory. The view atop Arthur's Seat is one that left a long-standing impression and pictures don't do it justice. I, too, plan to go back to both New York and Scotland as they have such an all-consuming and contagious energy that keep you wanting more. Keep up the great travel vlogs!

@@shaunvlog Shaun, sadly or not, America makes it much easier for Europeans to come and stay than for South Americans or other third world countries' citizens to come and stay. Both my parents emigrated from Canada and lived their adult lives here on green cards. My father was an engineer his entire career and he was on a green card. Neither ever became citizns, they just followed all the rules and signed in when they were supposed to. I often forget that I am first generation American because Canada and the US are more similar than Mexico and the US.

I am a 66 year old American but you probably know a lot more about New York City than many Americans. I've only been there twice, both times on business so I did not really control my time. I am a West Coast kind of guy so "home" is Los Angeles and San Francisco. For a few years I worked in both cities at the same time, commuting by commuter flight between the 2 cities every couple weeks. You really need to check out the West Coast. You may not like it but you need to experience it. Very very different vibs than NYC. More laid back, more tropical ambiance, especially in Los Angeles. San Diego is also beautiful. Take care of yourself and bear in mind that NYC is one of the most expensive cities in the USA to live. Of course, so are Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Zandain I feel that way too. I just wondered what it is that makes us feel at home. You start developing little habits and lovely habits are maybe what make us call a place home, at least partially. TheSnowbabe I don't know...other people are fx. enchanted by Denmark, how cute it is, how pretty it is, how beautiful all the castles are, how attainable our Royals are... Don't misunderstand me, I adore my own country..but I love diversity and Denmark is still a very traditional country with old-fashioned values. It has the quaint quality, but I enjoy new food, languages, people & warm weather 😉 Scotland is different for me, that's family. Well enough, it's old, old family, 1746 old..but with the stories from my grandfather, that were from his grandfather, and from his grandfather...they managed to keep the 'old country' alive. That is something which has stayed with me and influenced how I look at the land, the people, the culture and anything that oozes of familiarity 😊

Loving your vlogs, been watching since you went to Sorrento. We stayed in the hotel next door. I felt exactly the same way about New York after visiting with my Wife and sons for a week in October 2014. Maybe it's because I'm from London but I found New Yorkers to be genuinely lovely people. Just couldn't get it out of my system and ended up staying for another week over the Memorial Day Weekend in May/June 2016. Beautiful autumn weather when we visited in 2014 and had to buy shorts while there in 2016 as it was so hot! One of our highlights was the Greenwich Village Halloween parade which is the largest Halloween procession in the world so if you do plan to return definitely try to catch it. Finally visited Edinburgh in January this year and have to say I loved your city and will be back.

Shaun I love to travel also. Funds are nonexistent this summer so it is staycation time😀 My goal is to visit Scotland. Found out I have Scottish ancestors. This is an invitation for you to let me show you some Southern hospitality. You must see Charleston S.C., and experience Southern culture. So next time you and your wife can be my guest😀

I lived on west 81st for two years. I used to make some of that cheesecake, no more than a couple tons.

Hi Shaun! Thanks for the video. I really want to visit NY. I have a sneaking suspicion it will break my heart as well. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Utah in the weeks between late summer/early fall are the best for camping, hiking, kayaking, mountain drives, foliage, etc.

When you come back to NYC visit the other boroughs Staten Island, Bronx, Queens. Outer islands like Governors Island, Randles Island. Ellis Island is where all the immigrants from around the globe of the 1890-1930s came. It’s a park and museum

How you feel about NYC is how I feel about London. And probably Edinburgh when I visit.

Yes, it's sad to leave somewhere you love. But to have had these opportunities to travel!!! There are some that never get those opportunities and can only dream. ♥️🇺🇸
