Sorry the first minute of the game has French commentary, I haven't been able to find it in English. After the first minute it's in English New Zealand squash Japan in the 1995 RWC.

It's funny how everyone is pumping up Japan now. What nobody realises is that their only aim was to not be embarrassed in this RWC. they got here by throwing money at players they could sign for THIS RWC. If Japan actually wanted to continue this trend they would push money into their grassroots rugby. If you want to know what a team will look like in 10yrs, look at their schoolboys rugby. They'll go back to being 20th after this RWC.
@theultimatesharpshooter67344 жыл бұрын
@@BEAST-rd6wg I hope they invest in grass roots otherwise they will continue to rely on imports to prop up their rugby. Also by the looks of it, it seems France might dominate world rugby with the way their youth teams are performing at the moment.

@@BEAST-rd6wg As Japanese I wanted to punch you when I read your first two lines then read on to the third only to feel as if I'm hit in the stomach. I hope to see more kids start playing rugby in Japan after the WC.

@@theultimatesharpshooter6734 lol France? Not quite. Look at Frances schools rugby (under 18) team and then their under 20 teams 2-3yrs later and then do the same for NZ. France has almost the exact same team, while NZ and many other countries have already pushed their youth on to provincial or top side where they have other commitments and have low chances of getting a release. Don't get me wrong, France is decent but they should be throwing their youth in the deep end earlier on.

I am Japanese. The Japanese national team at that time was weaker than the New Zealand high school student team. A level that you should not enter the World Cup.However, because of this defeat, I think there is a strength of the current Japanese national team. After this, the Japanese national team seems to practice while crying.

+Chiba Murphy74 TRANSLATION FOR THE ABOVE COMMENT IN JAPANEASE... This defeat from 20 years, Japan also strongly now! Now that three wins at the World Cup! And was evaluated as being nominated for best team by the year 2015. But don't forget about this game! Still, the equivalent is the difference between the world I think. More Japan Rugby in Super Rugby to experience, I hope to be able to grow.
And to think how far Japanese rugby has come since then. I reckon this game honestly did give quite the start to their journey. Japan is a very proud nation, and after this ass-kicking the Japanese just started wanting to play rugby and play it better. By god have things happened since then. @ Greg Homan - that seems ridiculous to me as an Englishman. The whole point of sport is to win and to prove that you are better than the opponent. If that means absolutely hammering them then so be it. The idea of showing a team mercy and letting them back into the match is completely absurd. That would be in itself unsportsmanlike, because you are disrespecting your opponent by assuming they can't find a way back in unless you drop your level of performance.

I condone and encourage running up the score. We Americans, though, don't get this and choose to fire coaches over doing so.

Japan would be nowhere near where they are today if teams took that approach against them back then. Sometimes you need to be embarrassed like this because you won’t forget how that felt and do whatever you can to avoid it ever happening again.
Japan has come a long way in their rugby no way in hell the All Blacks would do this to them today.

And to think that Japan just a while ago were only 7 points behind the ab to drawing with them. Though not one of the Ab best performances it certainly was one of Japan's best. They have a very bright future in the world of rugby and they as a team shouldn't be taken too lightly.

One of the greatest performances of any team in sport. The crowd were booing at the end but the New Zealanders didn't care they just kept the pressure on and that is what sport is about.
I remember these new Zealand players from playing Jonah lomu rugby.. however, 6:56 should be a yellow card, that's the 3rd time in a row now they did that
Well at least it's more enjoyable to watch than Australia vs Namibia in 2003

Nowadays NZ killing the ball, hands in the ruck, high tackles, dangerous tackles, deliberate knock ons, in from the side, would see the score line greatly reduced, as well as a number of players yellow carded.
