During Desert Storm we would put the main meal in the engine bay of our armored vehicles and leave them there all day, so they'd be warm and we could eat quickly, since we didn't know how long we might be stationary. Those First Strike bars suck dude!! The old Mocha Dessert and Peanut Butter dessert bars are 100x better. The Salted Caramel energy bars that come in the extra foil pack are awesome too. But they don't put those in the regular MREs anymore. US military MREs are laced with seed oils, soy, GMO corn, HFCS, and absolute toxic crap. Speaking as a civilian who's had a few MREs in my day on camping trips, some sides are better than others. Peanut butter on crackers, or preferably bread, is a great way to get some quick energy on a hike. Even better if you have some jelly to slap on top as the crackers and bread tend to be pretty dry. As for the honey mustard pretzels, I prefer those over the ones you find at say a gas station merely because they are more "airy" and way easier to eat without feeling like you are going to split all your teeth open! The ration heaters in my experience are very hit-and-miss but I would get my MREs as surplus so who knows how long they sat before I got it. I always save the spares from one MRE for use at a later date. Some hot sauce and jalapeno cheese spread really added some flavor to a bland chili-mac backpacking meal on a trip once.

we 100% do. During an exercise in Poland I traded with the British and Polish for theirs. Objectively speaking they're more or less the same quality of ingredients, but the novelty of a foreign MRE in different packaging (i.e. Polish MRE had potted meats or canned stews) really made it taste better when in the field.

One of my favorite MREs was the beef patty meal and cheese spread, only trouble though the beef patty was not ever big enough to fill me up. LURP MRE's were also good.

For those of you who do not know. When you're in the field, you don't EVER get to use the heating source! It's lunchtime, you have three minutes!

My uncle was in the Marines in the Gulf War and they quickly realized their British counterparts had canned goods to spare and readily gave away their MREs to the Iraqi POWs so they could dig in to what the Brits were bringing. The POWs didn't argue and just wolfed down the rations they got because they were all pretty much starving when they were captured.

No, I think anyone should try the veggie cheese omelette as their first MRE for the authentic experience. For some reason that gray jiggly blob was mostly our only option for a period of time

Best MREs Pork sausage Chilli Mac (an og mre) Burger (looks like shit but amazing with wheat snack bread) Pizza (people fought over these) Taco Shredded beef Cheese Tortoreli Any of the cold weather ones, these are rare to get and rare to find. I only got one from a 10th mountain soilder, 10th mountain division is savage, like one of the most aggressive and adaptable units. They were significant in GWOT. The best land navigation soilder I've seen.

always heard mixed stories about mre's. Some like it an some not. Some even wish they had food like Vietnam. Even getting cigs in there mre's. My oldest is crazy about these. And is the only person that wants these for xmas & his b-day. So his aunt an Uncle (Army) send him quite a few bags. That boy could be in a middle of a war, surrounded by other troops just dreaming about american fast food or Mama's cookin. And he would be like an excited child with a bag of mre's. Crazy boy lol
