Yeah, I think he just kind of chucked Michigan in there somewhere. Surprised Lansing was worth mentioning, Flint kinda sucks (thank GM), although they did produce Terry Crews. Detroit has a few bad areas but there are also some great ones and it's improving. You can't take motown, hip-hop or rock and roll away from the Detroit. I mean, Kiss, "Detroit Rock City". On the plus side, Michigan has tons of lakes Including the Great Lakes. We have the longest freshwater coastline and the 2nd longest coastline period. Michigan is the only state with 2 peninsula's. If you haven't been to the upper one, you must, it is an outdoorsmans paradise. The 2 peninsulas are connected by what once was the longest suspension bridge in the world, The "Mighty Mac". It is still the longest in the northern hemisphere. Michigan has islands! including the beautiful and historic Mackinac. We have Incredible fudge, maple syrup, cherries, apples cider and cider donuts, Pasties, Coney dogs, Detroit style pizza and our own soda flavors... ever had "Rock and Rye" N-Zeders? We are 5th in the country for the number of breweries, microbreweries and brew pubs (Where you can watch the undefeated wolverines), earning us the nick name "The Great Beer State", drop the mic. Alice Cooper has left the building.

We make some really good beer, and have 600 varieties of cheese made in the state. We like to combine our beer and cheese along with whatever else we can find, and find any reason we can to have a tailgate/cookout. I toot my horn in a bad way when it comes to living in Michigan. It literally said outside Detroit, Flint and Lansing it is a very pretty state. I agree, but I grew up in the worst part. Not Detroit. But Flint. Sure even downtown Flint lovely with a lot of updates and great automotive history and culture. But go north and slightly west of town a bit - Stay out! You have no business going into gang territory. Seriously! I live just inside or north east side and hear gun shots on a weekly basis. And my neighborhood is said to be ok ish for Flint. And don’t get me started on the water issues. When that happen I was starting to think were turning into a 3rd world country. In a nutshell they say it is affordable here. True stuff price wise is lower. But many don’t have jobs and if you have zero income you don’t even eat. Sorry to be a Debbie downer but I am surprised there not more states ranked worse in the rust belt area. Jobs gone to other countries made our great area from being on top in the 50s to trailer trash now. Another downside. The Great Lakes are awesome, but look at it this way. Michigan is like a nearly an island. With gas prices rising and just the cost of living. We are land locked. So importing from other states or even Canada is much more expensive. I believe the cost of food alone in the last few months even have tripled. True this is a problem everywhere. But again when your already broke it makes living here a lot worse.

I hear him constantly talking about how horrible the south is for their low income and poverty levels but it is also insanely cheap to live in most areas in the south. Someone living in New York making 100k a year living in a 700 sq. ft apartment is considered middle class but someone in Alabama making 30k a year living in a 2000 sq. ft. house is often considered poor. The south is one of the most beautiful areas with long coastlines and hundreds of lakes, mountains, hills, valleys, and vegetation. The lower life expectancy is largely due to the overall southern diet and way of life. Jobs in the south are often physically demanding and can often be dangerous. We also live much further apart than those in the north which allows us more freedom to do what we want on our property. You'll often see people shooting guns, fireworks, and explosives on their own property for fun. You can't always do that in many northern states. I'm not knocking the North down, they have some good things going for them as well, especially Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. I'm just saying some of his arguments are very surface level. Income levels mean nothing if you don't simultaneously compare them in a ratio with the cost of living. Crime rates in nearly every state are also not things you can go off since most states have the vast majority of crime concentrated in one or two cities. States here are as large as entire European countries and painting the whole state with one brush is extremely difficult.

I'm another Utahn, It's super topographically diverse. I can experience everything from dense pine forests to pink-red deserts without leaving the state or sometimes in my own case the county. I can experience 112 degrees F in July and -15 degrees F in January without driving for more than 6 hours or leaving the state, also both of those locations are technically deserts. There's a small history museum for basically every town you come to and in it, you will find some volunteers waiting to show you the town's first X-ray machine(I've seen one of these in more than 4 little town museums all over Utah) and other similar items. History is all around us and we take the time to preserve it from prehistory to the 1940's there's some kind of a sign to tell you about the place you're standing in.

There is so much to enjoy in all the states but every time I watch your show I always think you guys should visit New England during the end of Summer and beginning of Fall . You can see the foliage and will probably still get a few warm days to go to the Beaches, Hike, and hit the Baseball games at Fenway in Boston. We were there for Thanksgiving and the front door was unlocked all day with neighbors and relatives coming in and out to visit a little while and have a slice of cake. That's sweet country living. If you're going rank MS low based on anything, it should be history. My family were slaves there just 5 generations ago. But they have owned land for the last 4 generations. Being in the military, I've gotten the opportunity to live in wide range of places. I may be a little bias but Colorado is by far the best state I've called home. Grew up in Northern Colorado and took it for granted. The Rockies are beautiful year round and they push most the weather over and on to the plains. Colorado is also the healthiest state with plenty of people spending much of their free time outdoors. I will say now that I've traveled across the country and even been overseas to places like Japan and Singapore, Coloradans are not always the nicest people. The Rockies pull in a lot of tourism and with that also comes people moving to the state. This has shot up the cost of living and most Coloradans aren't afraid to voice their opinion on new residents and tourist. Illinois was my second state to live in. Chicago is amazing! Great food, Great people, and Great sights. The autumn is breath taking. I've also spent a lot of time in Wisconsin while living in Illinois. Just as beautiful and the story book Red Barns are everywhere. Some of my best memories come from my time spent in California. Lived in San Diego but drove all the way up to San Francisco a couple of times. The drivers here are literally trying to kill you and traffic is a mess everywhere! Not something you'd really think about but although the drivers in California are aggressive, They aren't bad. Most everyone drives the same so it's very predictable. I feel like LA gets a lot of attention and everything else is just kinda there with it. San Diego is amazing and the Central Valley is something you wouldn't think of when you hear California. The last state I've called home and where I currently live is Hawaii. This state is so over hyped! I have nothing against Hawaii, but it's just so damn expensive and so far from the mainland. The locals aren't to keen of us on their island either. The beauty of this state though is memorizing. It's always warm and the water is incredibly blue. For someone who rides motorcycles, Hawaii is perfect in almost everyway, except all the potholes trying to kill you. The infrastructure in Hawaii is not great but Places like Honolulu and Waikiki, are perfectly walkable. The U.S. is pretty everywhere you go. Each state is unique and the culture is rich. Illinois was the friendliest state, Hawaii the prettiest, and California the most fun. Overall though, nothing will ever beat Colorado for me.

I live in Maryland. This state is very diverse. You can drive west and be in the mountains and drive east and be at the ocean and in between you have the wide-open farmlands to the historical cities. I live in Annapolis, the home of the U.S. Naval Acadamy, which is beautiful. I know they say Baltimore is a terrible city, but that is only a small part of the city. Downtown Baltimore is beautiful. Being just a few miles from D.C. is a plus too.

Massachusetts here! Boston is wonderful…a very walkable city with some of the best hospitals and colleges. Everybody loves Cape Cod (for the lovely beaches and quaint Cape Cod homes) and the Berkshires (with its natural beauty). You can easily drive to all the other New England states to enjoy the beaches and state parks in Maine, the beautiful greenery and hills of Vermont, the incredible mansions in Newport, Rhode Island, and, of course, the beaches and state parks in New Hampshire. I can’t imagine living anywhere else!

In 2006, I was referred by my primary Doctor to go to Boston General for surgery to remove a lump in my left ankle, when I woke up, the Surgeon said the lump was a tumor and it would take 2 weeks to get results for a test for cancer, two days after I got a call, they said when the cut the tumor in half, there was 4 other kinds of tumors and it would be 10 weeks to get the results for all the tests, I would have never got a call from any hospital in Vermont about the extra 8 weeks for the results.

Did you forget Boston's (and New York's) forgotten brother Connecticut? Yes, you might have Harvard, be we do have Yale..🤓 Connecticut, Your NZ family, is called the pass through state, because people are ready to visit New York, then Boston. Connecticut has history and the best museum is Yale's Peabody Museum, but there's museums for clocks, railroads, submarines, Merry go rounds plus food is great (lobster rolls, pizzas, hamburgers, ice cream, hot dogs (the best places for hot dogs are on the side of the road out of Airstream trailers, or hot dog carts or from little shacks) or other foods. Connecticut has the oldest amusement park in the US. When you visit, I'd recommend the Northeast. Sturbridge and Mystic are two living museums (they'll show life in the 1830s (Sturbridge a small farming town, Mystic a seaside town of the same time period). You would need to visit the US about 50 times to see every state...(That's why Americans don't visit other countries, we can't see our own countries in a day!)

I live in West Virginia and it’s the best state in the union. The indescribable natural beauty, outdoor adventure, low cost of living, friendliness, safety, serenity, amazing star gazing locations (including my yard) are only a few of the reasons it’s the best state. There is more noise inside my home from running appliances than there is outside my house. In addition, with a population of approximately only 2 million, there is plenty of open space without having to live on top of one another. I, personally, couldn’t live like that. I live in a county that doesn’t have even one traffic light and is home to more cows than humans. Wouldn’t have it any other way!

I'm in New Jersey, and while property taxes are high, there is so much to love here. We are called the Garden State for a reason. A lot of farmland and beauty in South Jersey. We have shore points so beaches galore (though they could be maintained better). We rank second in education and eighth in healthcare. We also rank 3rd in public safety. This is pretty impressive considering New Jersey is only 8,722 square miles and over 9 million people live here, which works out to be about 1,275 people per square mile. Compare that to Utah, for example, which is 84,899 square miles and only has 3.3 million people living there. In fact, besides Washington DC, we are the most populated state per square mile in the entire U.S.

Sad to see my sister states of the Deep South all making the bottom of the list. Yes, we have our problems here in the South, but you know what else we have? Although dark, some of the deepest history in the United States, and some of the friendliest people I have ever met. Some of the richest art and cultural history of the entire United States. Nobody thinks "New Hampshire" when they think of great food, while Louisiana is famed all over the world for its own style of "Cajun Food", jambalaya and gumbo and beignets. More authors, artists, and musicians than anywhere else in the US, including Mark Twain who wrote The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the first novel written in dialect. And also some of the most diverse places in the United States. Cost of living is typically cheaper than most in other states. And some of the most gorgeous places and scenery. Whoever made that ranking is clearly biased against the Southern states for whatever reason. I would name them as must visit places!
@Reindurr417 Жыл бұрын
The list is a bit objective but it doesn't take a lot into accounts. Yes the wages are lower in the South and yes the crime is really bad in the major cities but I think the shining gems of the South are the small towns with moderately low crime with friendly people and a rich culture of history and cuisine. Not to mention it's extremely cheap in the South which outweighs the lower incomes. Most people overlook the rural Southern life because it seems hickish and backwards. So while the metrics he's using are objective, they don't tell the whole story. A lot of people look at Jackson in Mississippi and would say that's awful but it's certainly not the entire state

I’m native NYer, and honestly…..NY has its pros and cons. For starters, the taxes are high….NY is known for that, it’s also not the cleanest state, or most affordable unless you’re making 6 figures. In the city….almost everything even food, is a bit too pricey. Now here’s the thing about NY….a lot of tourists tend to not even realize that there’s more to NY than just Manhattan and upstate. Manhattan is comprised of several areas: Lower Manhattan, Upper East Side (UES) Lower East Side, Upper West Side, Soho, Chelsea, Harlem, Midtown, Financial District, etc….then there’s the 5 boroughs with Manhattan being the main one. The boroughs include Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island (a huge debate in NY and Jersey since Staten Island is geographically closer to Jersey but it’s in NY waters) then there’s different areas in those boroughs….Brooklyn: Williamsburg, Bedford-Stuyvesant “Bedstuy” etc, The Bronx: Riverdale, Mott Haven, Fordham, etc Queens: Forest Hills, Astoria, Long Island City, etc and then Staten Island: St. George, Todt Hill, Great Kills, Tottenville, etc. Of course there’s also upstate which is like the countryside….so many spectacular views. Then, there’s Long Island (where I’m from) it’s not a tropical island, it’s a mixture of suburban and urban, with a bit of rural if you go out east. The closer you are to the city….the more populated, and condensed it is, but then out East….way more secluded. Long Island is also known for its beaches: Jones Beach, Long Beach, Robert Moses State Park, Gilgo Beach (we have a major aviation history here so we take pride in it) there’s the famous Coney Island Beach and Boardwalk….We also have fantastic wineries, and vineyards on the North Shore…..and then the famous Hamptons and Montauk on the South Shore which are close to the very end of Long Island. It’s like a mini vacation spot for NYers depending on where on the island you go. We have the North Shore and East half which is mainly filled with the more wealthy Long Islanders, and then South Shore and west half for the middle and lower class Long Islanders. The one main thing that we’re really known for….our food. Everyone knows the classic NY style pizza, baconeggandcheese (NYers say it as one word) on a roll, bagel with cream cheese, deli sandwich (pastrami on rye), NY cheesecake, and a chopped cheese (different from a Philly cheesesteak)

From California originally (family is still there = frequent trips back) have lived In Tennessee, Ohio and Kentucky. I will say California is SO beautiful and has a ton of attractions, some of the people are great, but it is costly and has it’s problems. I would say Tennessee was great for affordability, culture and absolute beauty. I still think it is one of the places I would move back to if the economy and population leveled out. But with recent influx of people, things have sky rocketed. We bought our home (925 sq feet) for $110,000 in 2018. We sold it for $138,500 in January of 2020. Seven months later it sold for $170K and is well over $200K now 😱. Ohio is beautiful, the people are grand, economy is strong and is great. Has some negatives, but I loved it. My wife is from Kentucky and I have spent half of my life here, that is why we moved back. We have lived in the Southern part of the state and now live in the Northern part. If has some economic issues and interesting cultural differences, but it full of natural beauty. Lots to do and see, proud to be in ole Kentucky. 🤣 Thank you all for your content, enjoy watching you all!

I am biased but Florida is so good. No matter where in the state you are, you are not far from a beach. The Gulf of Mexico has best beaches with white soft sand. Just know it’s very humid here and hot in the summer with over 100 degree (Fahrenheit) weather. There is a difference in culture though. Northern Florida is like the South and Southern Florida is like the North because of all the Northerners that moved there. I’m glad y’all would’ve picked Florida.❤

I agree, I'm from Wisconsin and I have only visited Florida like once. I have lived and visited in most states in the country, and I think Florida is definitely top 5. That's where everybody from up here goes on vacation. 8/10 times when somebody is going on vacation, they will go to Florida lol. A lot of people also move down there when they retire (my grandparents included). Too hot for me in the summer, but it is beautiful. People here don't usually visit in the summer, or they will move back to the Midwest in the summer because we are not used to the heat. I prefer 0 degrees over 100 degrees lol.

A few things you may not know about the State of Michigan, its the easiest state to tell someone where you live because the lower part of the state looks like a Mitten, just take your right hand look at it and you will be told where someone lives in that state. Michigan is surrounded by 4 of the 5 Great Lakes, although technically there are 6 if you count Lake St. Clair. Michigan like I mentioned earlier has two parts the Upper portion and lower portion. which connected via the Mackinac Bridge (pronounce Mac in Naw) The upper portion is known as the U.P. or its nickname the Yooper. Michigan is surrounded by the largest fresh water lakes in the U.S. and is one the only few that can be spotted from space for its shape. It has four seasons Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter though many say really only 2 Summer and Winter. Michigan is arguably the largest state east of the Mississippi. depending on how sever the Winter gets the great lakes can and do freeze over. While Detroit is Michigan's largest city it is not the capital nor is it the only city int he state too many people judge Michigan simply by judging Detroit which is unfair and the state is very beautiful inside and out of the City of Detroit.. Detroit is actually north of Windsor, Canada so heading South you end up in Canada. Hopefully one day you'll be able to visit and enjoy what Michigan has to offer.
