On the flip side, there was a very touching moment back in 2014. Canada had suffered a great tragedy - a gunman on Parliament hill in Ottawa. The people of Pittsburgh (fans) of the Pittsburgh Penquins + their bitter rivals- Philadelphia flyers at the start of the game sang O Canada together. It was a heartstring twister.

Yeah, Nashville Predators fans, also, sang "O Canada" directly as a tribute to the Canadians who had finished the US anthem in this video. The singer purposely stopped and held up the mic so the entire stadium could sing instead and they really did! Absolutely beautiful. (The video for that is on KZbin as well).

I worked for a pro hockey team in the States for about ten years and we had fans that would sing the Canadian anthem when the mic would cut out, too. You would get the same chills. Americans and Canadians have had and will continue to have each other's backs. Unfortunately, politicians on both sides are trying to destroy that bond, but the citizens are all on the same side when we need to be. For us regular folks, it's just a friendly rivalry.

A song born out of trauma, a story told with great passion, then adopted as National Anthem. I guess some countries set out to have someone compose a national anthem, but for the US, so much passion & gratitude went into one man's creation of a song it still reverberates. And some people wonder why so many Americans care so much about our country, our National Anthem. It was just born that way, embedded in our souls. It's so wonderful that it so deeply resonates within you. May you have a wonder-filled and miraculous trip in the US.

Both videos were awesome. The words for U.S. National Anthem were written during the War 1812 with Great Britain. The melody is from a song written for a British men's social club and was specified by Francis Scott Key to use in singing his words. It did not officially become the national anthem until Congress acted to do so about 1930.
@monikamartin6002
@monikamartin6002 8 ай бұрын
It was not written for a men's social club. It actually was during a prisoner exchange when Key was on a British ship at sea watching the Brits bomb Fort Henry repeatedly during the War of 1812. The family did a reaction of the backstory of the Star Spangled Banner a couple of years ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/enW9h4BtpZySd8U

@@counselthyself2591 you do realize that most of the soldiers where British soldiers who convinced the tribes to fight with them against the US, right? The war ended with nothing changing prior to the treaty being signed. That war was pretty much pointless. Lots of lives lost for land that remained the same when it was done. Either way we look at it, neither country has the same military as they did +200 years ago. If I had to bet my money on who would win a battle, without outside interference from other countries, between Canada and the US, I'd bet 10,000/1 the US would win. You only get both the Canadian anthem & the US anthem at sporting events where there's a team from Canada playing a team from the US. So ice hockey is the obvious choice, as there are seven NHL teams in Canada, but also there's one Canadian MLB team, one Canadian NBA team, & three Canadian MLS teams, too. So hockey fans are very familiar with both anthems, & many fans sing both in the stands.

Grand Dad thought of New Zaland as the second anchor of the pacific war. The only thing that Dad made clear was to always attack first in the Pacific. The Pacific fleet was thought as a holding action. He said to advance. The momentum was there. He was just a corporal & seemed to know more than the brass. He said to always advance. He said as long as they were advancing; he would get home sooner than later.

I was going to suggest that too. The singer, Rene Rancourt, basically turned it over to the crowd. Gives me chills every time I watch it.

It's also a Hockey thing..... Growing up in America loving NHL hockey you hear the American and Canadian anthems before games a lot especially the 80 and 90s as a kid. Lots of Canadian teams. I knew the Canadian national anthem word for word as a eighth year old American because hockey 😂. My mother is from Canada and I know a lot of them know ours for the same reason.

I went to a concert by the Vancouver Symphony outdoors and they began it with "Oh, Canada" which I heartily did my best to sing. Actually, I'll sing anybody's anthem if I can (for most, I'll need to be given the words)--they are nearly all great songs. By the way, don't know if you saw the news about the tennis fan recently ejected from a match for singing the original first stanza of "Deutschland Uber Alles" which was a song written by the much admired Joseph Haydn and, with words composed I think in 1922, used as the German national anthem after that. But because Hitler enthusiastically used it after he came to power a decade later, the post-war German government dropped the first 2 relatively nationalistic stanzas and only use the third. Very few if any Americans know this--I didn't--and if you Google "German National Anthem" you are likely to get all three even now. Anyway, the fan began singing the first stanza during a match involving a German player who objected to the referee, arguing the fan was slandering him as a Nazi which I'm almost certain wasn't the case--he was probably supporting him.

That happened a few times in Canada where the sang the American Anthem when the mic cut's out. It also happened at a hockey game in America. Where the mic cut off and the Americans finished the Canadian National Anthem.

I cry every time! It’s so beautiful, and such a powerful song, especially if your ancestors fought in the battle. My family had quite a few military in the family. Mom often said that there were so many uniforms walking around her house growing up she had to look up at their faces to see who was who. Her brother ended up dying while stationed in Algiers due to “friendly fire.” He was shot while sitting in a jeep. One of his buddies had found a Luger and they were looking at it in the back seat. It accidentally went off and shot the guys finger off that was holding it. They were so freaked out that the guy shot his finger off that they didnt even realize that the bullet went up through the seat and straight into my uncle, killing him instantly. 😢 My grandmother said that “Jerome” appeared at the foot of her bed that night and she said, “Jerome, what are you doing home?” He said to her “mom, I am alright” and then he disappeared”. She found out that he had been killed by telegram the next day. Very sad and to this day every time I hear the National Anthem, I think of my uncle and his brothers and sisters who fought for our freedom and how much they endured for us.❤ Thanks so much for loving our Country.🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸

There was another incident at a hockey game in Canada when the singer forgot the words to the US national anthem and the crowd came to the rescue and sang it for her. It was a beautiful moment.

Hi there, do I remember this game, was watching it and yes I felt bad for the singer because it's important to show patriotism, I was actually singing along with the crowd from my living room in Ontario, Canada. This has happened a few times where Canadian fans have sung the US anthem as well as our own. I have also seen the US sing our national anthem and there's. Thanks for another great video, hope you're having fun on your trip.

There is a time when a young girl was singing the National Anthem before a Portland Trailblazers game and got nervous and couldn't get through it. The head coach Maurice Cheeks came over and sang it with her to help her out.
