America! America! May God thy gold refine Till all success be nobleness, And every gain divine! O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years, Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears! America! America! God shed His grace on thee, And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea! Oh beautiful for halcyon skies For amber waves of grain For purple mountain majesties Above the enameled plain! America! America! @barbarahecht46172 жыл бұрын
I am forced to agree with you on this, Jessica. However, I am Not proud that, although most of us know the words, many of us are not aware that Francis Scott Key wrote the words while watching a battle during the War of 1812 (against the British, mind you) and was worried that the British soldiers would capture the American fort where the battle occurred and that the flag flying over the fort was still an indicator that the British troops had not won and taken the fort over and raised their own flag on the battlements.

I have also seen clips of hockey games where the Canadian fans sang the US National Anthem when the singer's mic went out and that one really choked me up. There was then a follow up video to that one where the Nashville Predators returned the favor and sang the Canadian Anthem as a pay back for the Canadians singing our anthem. This is the way it should be, we honor and respect each other and we stand side by side with our friends around the world. If only it could be this way everywhere.

I remember that Super Bowl and when the singers mic actually started working he lowered his voice dramatically to be able to blend in with the crowd and you heard him every now and then it’s kind of getting in the sharp notes but yes, it was really beautiful and united! You never scream that anthem.. you become one beautiful choir! Basically 100,000 people doing a sing-along and they sounded great

I'm kinda taken aback that you two were surprised about the bagpipes. Keep in mind, we Yanks are literally your cousins. That includes the Brits, (Anglos) Welsh, (Celts) Manx, (Celts) Cornish, (Celts) Scots (Gaels) and, Irish (Celts) that migrated to "the new world".

Thanks! The first time I realized how much I loved my country was during a singing of this anthem. My husband was newly stationed, with the US Army, in West Berlin. I had recently joined him there. We went to a movie at an American post theater, where the national anthem is always played before the start of any movie. The anthem began, we all stood and I placed my hand over my heart, and started to cry like a baby. I had grown up an Air Force brat, and was now an Army wife, and used to moving around. I was excited to be in Berlin, but all of a sudden, I understood what a great country the USA was, and is, and I was proud and happy to be American, and homesick, all at once. God bless America!

The first song played by the bagpipes was America the Beautiful. Another great song that has many times been suggested to replace the current national Anthem. You should check it out.

here's me voting to replace the star spangled banner with america the beautiful as the national anthem. have you checked out the other 3 verses of the current national anthem? very bad. and the tune doesn't even match up with lyrics, although that's the least of my problem with it lol
@barbarahecht46172 жыл бұрын
@@mariebrown4966 America the Beautiful is merely a bastardization of the British God Save the Queen- or, at the time it was conceived- God Save the King.

@@mariebrown4966 I was just pointing out why it probably wasn't seriously considered as a National Anthem Contender- it's already in use as a song of patriotism and glory For Another Country. Never mind the beautiful lyrics- it's a British song glorifying their resident monarch.

I was at a Devils (New Jersey professional hockey team) game a few years back and they had a young girl sing the National Anthem, maybe about 12 or 13. She froze with anxiety, couldn't continue, and the crowd picked it up for her. It was incredible.

I was born in Wimbledon, London. My Mum was born in Hammersmith, London, and, her mom (My Gran) was born in County Meath, Ireland. My Dad was born in upstate New York and met my mother on a blind date in Singapore at The Raffles Hotel in 1950. She moved to the States and my family lived in Santa Ana, California til 1969 (the year I was born) and then my Dad moved us to the San Francisco Bay Area, where I currently still live. I have dual nationality and have returned to the UK many time, Richmond Park/Hill in London is still where my heart lives in many ways. I am so blessed to have the best of both worlds. The UK and the US are who I am.

The words are by Francis Scott Key. The music is an old drinking song called “To Anacreon in Heaven,” and does not require the singer to hold that killer high note. I suspect it is also easier to sing while drunk.

Since you watched this one, I highly recommend that both of you check out the Kentucky All State Choir singing the national anthem in a hotel. I think the best version is the one from 2019. amazing is an understatement. Its a yearly tradition at the Hyatt Regency in Louisville, Kentucky since 1987. Part of the magic is the acoustics that this hotel atrium has. They aren't the only ones who have taken advantage of this unique hotel though. The Colorado All State Choir has also performed, "down to the river to pray" back in 2019 at this same hotel and numerus other songs over the years. I highly recommend you check out the both videos. However if you choose one, definitely the 2019 version of the Kentucky All State Choir singing the national anthem.

Hi guys! No matter which "state" we are from, when assembled, and the mike cuts out, there is no question how we will; respond. now, re:bagpipes, I suggest the following "go's": fife and drum, bethpage civil war band (provided most music, on set and in credits of the movie "gettysburg"), native american 'big drum' music. Also, with 'the big drum' music, there might be some 'fancy dancers' , somehting more to behold.

You guys had such a lovely reaction to the Star Spangled Banner. I was wondering how you were feeling as British people watching your country’s historical attack on the fort. It shows what good hearts you have! I do not normally get into reaction videos, but patriotism is a thing here in the United States…at least I pray it still is, so it was neat to hear your thoughts on the song. I hope my people rise up against the tyranny of the jabs and mandates going on now across the world. None of this is right.
