I watched the 1st episode, it was great. I was glad to see you all touring the pacific coast, it is beautiful. I think I may have seen you guys in Morro Bay, on highway 1 last week or so, kind of funny (we don't get a lot of sunseekers here, at least that model). Hwy 1 is closed as you found out north of San Simion. bummer you had to go inland till Monterey. Good luck, happy and safe travels

Morro Bay is beautiful. CA is aptly named the Golden State. Huell Howser was a national treasure and his show “California’s Gold” was one of my fav shows growing up. I love his episode at The Soap Kitchen, which can also be seen on their website. Their bar soap “California’s Gold” smells amazing! It was named in honor of Huell. The CA weather can’t be beat, which is one of the main reasons I came back home after living on the east coast for a time. Driving Hwy 1/101 will always be my favorite road trip!

Just a suggestion from an old RV'er, rinse your black water hose out before stowing it otherwise, your storage area will start to smell and always use gloves when handling it - real easy to contaminate other things with bacteria. I kept ours placed in an old milk crate away from are gray and freash water hoses. Finally, if your only going to be camping in a spot overnight, shut your black water tank down and empty in the morning using your gray water tank.

Dear NZ family, I so remember my first time in a huge toy store in Rochester, NY when we moved to the States from New Zealand. We went to a huge store called "The Children's Palace" and it was amazing. My boys were only 3 and 5 and we were shopping for Christmas. We arrived there December 18th, 1986 and all their toys were either in storage in New Zealand or still being shipped to us. I was like a child in a candy store shopping for my children. I see the same joy in Sam's eyes as he shopped in WalMart for Denzel. It brought back wonderful memories for me. Thank you and I can't wait to watch more. Love, MoAna from Wanganui.

Getting a road atlas is really cool when doing road trips, so you and the kids can actually trace the route with a highlighter each day. Kids will never ask "Are we there yet?" because they can literally see for themselves. It works better than the map on a phone because you can get a much better look at the route, and you get to keep it, rather than it going away as soon as you do another search.
@emmef7970

So true, I agree. I have always loved road maps. They are a great way to find all of the hidden gems that no one has ever mentioned on your journey. There are so many of those places in California. I love all the small towns/cities along the California coast. So many and so charming. I still have many of the maps we used when I was a kid in the 60’s and 70’s. Very nostalgic, lots of great memories of all the great places we visited. Many of which were random places we stopped just for food, gas, a stretch, a place that looked interesting, something caught our eye, etc. Many we were just inspired to take a drive around the town. I love both car and RV trips. I always considered maps as momentos of our journeys. 😁

Travel vlog by travel vlog, your American discovery journey is a fascinating and fun-filled adventure. The delight you each experience is really engaging. If anyone deserves to be touring the USA, it's you guys. The closure of Hwy 1 is such a shame but way too common an occurrence here. Sam was masterful backing the RV into the hookup space and Nadine did a grand job driving on the "wrong" side of the road. Using Rick Astley for your soundtrack was a real "score". Happy Birthday, Denzel! A series from YNZ Family is now must-see TV!

From where they live in NZ to the NZ Capital of Wellington - its a 5 hours drive...in NZ terms, "that's huge" LOL. Every year, I drive from San Diego to Monument Valley which is 12 hours...and that's definitely a drive!

@@manamedia understood. I have British friends that were stunned I drove from London to Edinburgh, even though I did it over 7 days. That's the same distance as LA to San Francisco (which of course most foreigners think are right next to each other)

@@LiqdPT I forget that Brits and Kiwis are not used to driving long distances. I too, drove from London to Edinburgh (7 and a half hours) in one drive. But then, I have driven from Neenah Wisconsin to Billings MT and Cairns, QLD Australia to Brisbane QLD Australia in one drive - both were 18 hours total.

8 hours a day on average for most of our long family trips. Mom made a back of the front seat tote with activities and drew a line on the seat with masking tape down the middle that my brother and I weren’t allowed to cross with any portion of our bodies since we usually had back seat battles. Cars had much larger bench seats in those days so we had plenty of room. Back then we followed the rules 🙂

5 hours driving an RV is a fairly long haul. The concentration required wears on you. It's NOT like driving a car.

You are traveling through my home state right now. I live in New Mexico and I love seeing all the coastline and the trees. Sorry you didn't get the long trip up the coast but you get enough of it. Sometimes that trip up the coast can make it a real long journey so I think you're going to love it just as much. I've got tears in my eyes just to see how happy and how much fun you're having! Yosemite will blow your mind! It is just so gorgeous!! Stay safe!

Ive been a chef for 13 years, and I think Atlanta should be a chef when she's grown... she is a great cook, but also creative. I've never even thought of putting cream cheese, fruit, and maple syrup on a bagel. I bet it was delicious (as long as she used real maple syrup).

@@ct6852the BEST thing to put maple syrup in is coffee. It cuts the bitterness of the coffee without needing sugar, but also adds the sweetness. It seems like the maple flavor might ruin coffee, but it doesn't. (It HAS to be 100% pure maple syrup tho, not Log Cabin corn syrup.)

This video was basically a tour of my life for 40+ years. I lived in Lompoc near Santa Maria, Pismo Beach, and Paso Robles which you likely passed by when you had to detour to the 101 instead of Highway 1. I lived on Highway 1 north of San Simeon at Ragged Point where I worked for over 7 years and lived along the cliffs. It’s the first place as you rise up to the cliffs of Big Sur.
