@@sportybeatle I don't even support amazon. All they did was get richer and try to destroy local businesses, just like walmart. I'll support small businesses and franchise businesses, but otherwise, no amazon or walmart for me. And unfortunately I don't know anything about any other root beer than A&W and some others like the generic brands, but when it comes to locals from around the USA, I don't. 😥

@@kioku119 Back then there were very few American men who didn’t follow baseball, even if they didn’t much like it. It was a subject for small talk like the weather. So if you were on a bus in Boston for example, the guy next to you would likely talk your ear off about how the Red Sox have been doing, how this player isn’t worth the money, and we should play this player more. But ultimately you make a very good point - if you were one of the very few American men who didn’t keep up with baseball, you may have been mistaken for a German spy.

They have imported Hershey's and Lays and Coke and other things (but their Cheetos aren't even cheese flavored - - they're chicken or beef flavored). But would you enjoy dried seaweed as a snack? Sweets and cakes are usually much blander (esp. any sort of muffin or cupcake). However, the longer I stayed there, the more I got used to (and enjoyed!) some of the local fare.

Twinkies are mainly grease and sugar. They pump the grease out of the sewer lift stations, it collects in little balls that get bigger and bigger until they start interfering with the float switches. @@Isabella66Gracen Tatua Dairy Whip (from New Zealand) is a much sweeter version of Reddi Whip, which tastes nothing like the cream filling in snack cakes, thank goodness. Tatua is closer in flavor to Cool Whip, which also tastes nothing like the cream filling in snack cakes. I'm thinking that maybe that was the only reference source the kids had to give for how they thought the cream filling tasted. It actually tastes more like marshmallow fluff to me.

@@jmontigny7367 Good to know. Thanks for the reference. Yeah, there really isn't anything that does taste exactly like that fake cream filling.

I’m wondering if eating one after another affected the flavors. Some of those things have a very strong flavor.

I love how most of these foods are marketed towards children here in the states, and the kids don't like most of them!

Growing up in my day candy tasted totally different or maybe I just had a child taste bud. Lol. The sweets I grew up on was different brands than some of these. 😊

One thing I have learned while traveling with the United States Navy is that even things with the same brand won’t taste the same because of the slight difference in ingredients...you should have someone from the states send you stuff that y’all have that is made in the states and it will really surprise you

This is true! In the States we tend to have a laundry list of ingredients (most we don't even know how to pronounce) in our products. Most of that stuff isn't thrown into any food products in other countries but apparently here in the States it's all fair game. I'm pretty sure the majority of it's not healthy either but it does do wonders for the way things taste 🤷🏾‍♂️

@@konchuzthawt was just about to write something like that, then I saw your comment! Lol A lot of products across the pond also use natural flavors, when a lot of our stuff is artificially flavored, along with all that whole list of preservatives and other stuff. I remember getting starbursts in Ireland. I couldn’t say why I thought it, but I guess I assumed they were the same everywhere. Not even close. Besides having flavors I’d never had before, like black currant, their lemon and limes actually had the fruit pulp in it! Here, you can barely find lime anything anymore, it’s all been replaced with green apple, which I’m not the biggest fan of... but I definitely liked theirs better than ours.

When I was young we traveled east of the Mississippi River every year on vacation to visit my grandmother. And we always bought a case of Bun candy bars to take home with us. The vanilla was ok, but the best was the original flavor. Maple. You still can’t buy them in the stores here in Kansas. But you can get them if you order them online.
