@@NotUrDJ Yeah, but to think of some of the names who have played: Murali, Herath, Mendis, and a whole bunch of other tweakers who are a handful in spinning conditions elsewhere! I wonder if it is just a batting era flat pitch thing, or there is a more systemic trend.

In NZ, our weather plays a huge part. Sometimes we get dry summers, but mostly they are humid, lots of rain mixed in with sunshine, and the pitches don't break up, so it is very hard to become a quality spinner. Ajaz Patel on the previous tour took all 10 wickets in one Indian innings, then was dropped immediately in the next test at home in NZ.
@mikespearwood3914Ай бұрын
A test NZ lost too! (vs Bangladesh)
@JackKinrossАй бұрын
Yes, bang on with what happened, the wicket really suited us, we'll take the win with glee and brace for the next two Tests. It's extremely hard to develop as a spinner in NZ, the playing pool is so small that wicket taking bowlers, seamers, will always get preference in rep teams trying to win tournaments at age group level. Plus spin bowling in NZ is a different art to bowling spin in Asia. Anyway, great day for NZ cricket, the girls have just won the T20, every ICC tournament win for us is priceless.

I've been telling this to my friends a lot.. Facing Ajaz Somerville Bracewell and GP in the nets, and going out to face Ashwin Jadeja Kuldeep Axar in the game are almost two different sports, and that's why it's tough to even expect NZ batters to play spin well in India.. Credit to the way they have tackled the spin trio till now. Things will change drastically in Maharashtra (Pune/Mumbai)

Some Indian fans are all bent out of shape by this victory. Give credit where its due. NZ bowled well on a pitch that suited their seamers. The Indian Captain may have been doing it by the numbers - bat first in India, make a huge score on an unresponsive track and then bowl them out twice on a bunsen. Did not go by the numbers or at least not the numbers India were expecting. NZ got to bat on it when it was heading towards its best. India got to bat on it in the second innings at its best but collapsed against the second new ball, where again the NZ seam attack bowled well in conditions that did not suit them. The pitch was not playing wild tricks on the last day due to it being damp previously and therefore it had not dried out sufficiently to start misbehaving. So, yes fortunate to have use of a pitch that was doing things, but not their fault as NZ did not win the toss and would have batted anyway. Skilful use of the ball by Henry and O'Rourke won them the game, and the batting of Ravindra. Southee's batting was a surprise bonus. No doubt the next two pitches will be rank turners to suit the home attack, as it should be. If you have skills use them.

As always I am disappointed with Rohit Sharma taking wrong decision in crucial moment. He chose Jadeja and Kuldeep over Ashwin. Even after they were leaking runs & not taking wickets. He keeps on making the same mistake again and again. He made the sam mistake in ODI world cup final where he gave over to spinners instead of Siraj & made the same mistake again in last T20 World Cup by giving spinners an over instead of Hardik Pandya even when spinners were leaking too many runs. We were lucky that Indian pacers pulled off a miracle in those last 5 overs. Rohit Sharma must improve his decision making on whom he should give over to in crucial moment of the game.
