@@luishelfer4204 agreed, anywhere that routinely reaches triple digit heat definitely sucks lol. It's the humidity that gets me most of the time, walk out the front door and it feels like you get punched in the face lol. Today Especially sucked since it rained yesterday and the ground is still wet. Another reason they stopped letting the football players (and cheerleaders) march in the band during halftime at my school. The starting QB was also 1st chair coronet in the band, and would march in his football uniform while the rest of the team was in the fieldhouse preparing for the second half.

I always found that metabolic study interesting. As a brass player, I still wonder how hypoxic I was at all times. We can't breathe whenever we want to like the drums and guard. I bet my O2 rate was below 90% at all times while performing. Then again, we train our lungs differently. Breathing Gym, high lung capacity..... probably more surface area on the tissue to absorb oxygen. Cool video Courtney. edit: Imagine running a marathon when you can only breathe 6 times a minute.....

Yeah you guys really do be goin crazy with that air. But also we do consistently just... forget to breathe. The pit I was in also did breathing gym as a reminder that we need to breathe while performing. And before you say put ain’t shit... we were the only section that actually did PT every day

@@captainkiwi77 Pit ain't wuhhh? The most exposed section in drum corps .. up front and amplified. Granted, y'all get the shade all day, can't pass a slurpee run .. etc etc (TOTALLY KIDDING). I think it's extremely smart that you guys did PT and breathing gym. I wish it was mandatory for every human to have to learn to breathe properly. The benefits are incalculable .. especially when you're up in years.

Most of us would kill ourselves to finish a performance and not let anyone down.

BD back in my day. Jogging in a block. Breathe in for 8, out for 8, with an exclamation at the end to get all the last air out. Last 8 sounded like this: SssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssHIT! There's a tape out there of a Madison rehearsal in Stillwater, MN where BD would deliberately jog by and do this bit to disrupt Mad's rehearsal. They're working on the "Cats" closer and someone says "here they come." Mad laughed it off....it had become a tradition by then. They were amused by it.

I remember that show they were talking about in the last clip. It was 2018 and that show specifically was so hot that there was not only a delay, but all the corps were required to wear t-shirts and shorts. No uniforms. And because of that, it wasn't a show that was scored. It felt nice to travel to a show site and not have to worry about putting on a hot uniform. Just in a nice t-shirt (a corps sponsored one too!) and shorts. We still treated it like a normal performance, but it was definitely different due to that heat.

I remember the hottest day on tour still - 18 years ago. It was 100+ degrees Fahrenheit in the middle of July. You just stay hydrated for physical health and block the heat out mentally. So much to concentrate on that the heat becomes a secondary thing. Since you block it out mentally, you really have to remember to hydrate physically.

Humidity is a thing. 100° in Denver is not the same as 100° in Miami. Denver is very dry and won't be as bad. Miami is next to an ocean and the high humidity will get to you. High humidity is likely what you experienced in Japan. Humidity can also work the other way and make the cold feel even colder.

They can show just how much running around a member is doing over the course of a show. I think you would find these interesting.... I recommend something more recent, just for quality....
