Courtney: The show actually depicts a manned orbital spaceflight from lift-off to zero-gravity spacewalk and peril then re-entry and spashdown. The Crown form melts into a "capsule" form at the end. Hope this helps.

This is the fastest I've clicked for one of Courtney's videos in a while. This show is so great and Crown really killed it. Now who all missed the snare drummer losing his drum and the judge picking it up @ 8:30 in the video? But as always amazing video and I can't for the other two videos!

If you want to learn the whole story behind that, WCU put out a video about 7 years ago where both the drummer and judge talk about what was going through their minds during those moments. It’s a really cool video you should watch.

There are a couple things I'd really like to point out about this show. I know its already been said a few times, but at 8:29 you can see one of the snares drop their drum and watch at 8:45 the judge run it back to him. It's funny cause the enormous applause that happens at that moment could either be for the brass impact or the guy getting his drum back :P. Also, I'm not sure if you noticed, but at 6:40, all the low brass is actually playing trumpets; so the whole hornline is trumpets and mellophones. It's super impressive that they had to learn a completely different instrument than what they're used to and still be proficient at it.

Yea the high brass feature is absolutely nuts. Crown is always doing such demanding things and the fat judges are always so confused and have no idea whats going on. That's why they get screwed in competition every year. The show is just never rewarded for the demand. You have BD sitting in chairs and standing still most shows and they get top 2 every year. Carolina crown is the most snubbed corps in DCI. so sad
@Cmmf_4 жыл бұрын
@@Lacheddar1990 i know this talking about it in general but BD 2014's drill besides the ballad was demanding af, I think the Ott should've gone to crown but it would've been real close
@Lacheddar19904 жыл бұрын
@@Cmmf_ Yea 2014 BD was amazing. Every section was amazing, but watch the last minute of the show. Usually this is the part where corps are running and playing or have some sort of crazy drill move and BD is stationary for an entire minute. prolonged Simultaneous demand isn't their forte. They have great show designers, but some of the most boring finishes in DCI history. Standing still on the front sideline.

For those who don't understand just how impressively they play. Imagine if you will getting a group of 25 people to clap together. They all have to clap at the same volume, in the same spot on the hand, at the exact same time. And then on top of that keep clapping differing intervals. All of this while running around in circles. If they don't all sound like one person clapping then you failed.. Take that group of 25 and combine it with the other 3 groups of 25 or less who are doing different clapping patterns, make it sound good. That's basically what this is.

So no ones gonna tell her about what happened at 8:30 ? So basically a snare drummers drum fell off his carrier and the tenor drummer almost tripped over it. Luckily that didnt happen, and the judge picked the drum up for him and gave it to him like 20 seconds later maybe. Its a really iconic moment and the real credit goes to the judge since he basically saved the drummers last performance of his DCI career as this was his age-out year.

I think the last time I saw this show was literally at the Mustang OK show that year, lol. I like it, but didn't grip me the same way 2013 did. There's a lot in this I absolutely LOVE. The drill, *chef's kiss* outstanding! (I'm a drill writer, so this looked super fun to write). The brass book was ungodly hard, and they probably pulled it off better than any other corps could, especially with the insane drill and movement. Guard weapons, man.... some of the cleanest, if not cleanest I've ever seen. Percussion is kind of outside of my wheelhouse, but I love the creativity with equipment and instruments to create super cool textures and colors. The only part I just didn't really love was the ballad. Didn't really give me the feels like I want a ballad to. And, while I understand the guard designers want to show off how well they can move and dance, I really just wanted to see the whole field covered in double swing flags to amp up the visual side to the power of the hornline. Although, I'm always a sucker for double swings. :P

This was when Crown learned how difficult it is to successfully defend your first championship the following season. The only corps to have done that were 73-74 SCV, 76-77 BD, and 83-84 Cadets (damn it, since that was the year I MARCHED BD!). 72 Kingsmen, 75 Madison, 91 Star, 92 Cavies, 96 Regiment (in a tie), 08 Regiment (solo win), 13 Crown, and 16 Bluecoats did not repeat the following season.
@veot.28694 жыл бұрын
@@samsignorelli A lot of that had to do with politics. However, in 1992 (that was my era) Star chose to do a 'lesser' show because the theme of it was American Variations. It was not as complex a show as the previous two years. The following year they placed 2nd and chose to leave the activity. Crown was up against some strong comp the year they placed fifth and their GE score suffered all year long because of the trampolines.
@samsignorelli4 жыл бұрын
@@veot.2869 I would agree with you, but for one thing....Star was going to leave after 93 anyway. The contract with Canadian brass was signed BEFORE the 93 season. They did NOT "take their ball and go home" after taking 2nd in 93. Please stop perpetuating that.
@joshsalmons18674 жыл бұрын
Finally thanks! I knew you would love this one from the creativity. They were the defending champs this year and I think placed 4th. During the frisbee brass feature everyone was playing either a mellophone or trumpet. Multi talented if you ask me.

Love your videos and reactions! Since you've done such an amazing job with military videos, I wanted to recommend a video that is very near and dear to my heart: USS Wisconsin - The Last Battleship. It's about 27 minutes long and the audio quality isn't 100 percent. But what makes it special are a couple of things: 1. It literally was the last US battleship (World War II) era to be in service, getting decommissioned in the early 90s. 2. I served on board her in 1990-1991 and it's where I went from being a high school grad to a man. 3. A World War II era battleship serving -- effectively -- in the "modern" area is impressive on its own. 4. 16 inch guns. Watch and you'll know what I mean. Good news, too, is that the Wisky is now a museum in Norfolk, VA.
