The greatest racer of them all, Joey Dunlop, once said in an interview “there’s a green blur and a grey blur - i’ll try to stick to the grey blur”. Joey is, was, the racer with the highest number of victories, 26, on the island. One of the most humble persons ever. One of Irlands greatest sportsmen ever. A crowd of over 50.000 attended to his funeral after his tragic death at a track-race in Estonia.

Robert had two sons, Michael and William, where William in 2018 suffered from fatal injuries from a practise crash at a race in Dublin. Michael Dunlop is still racing motorcycles. Its human thing mate. Humans want the best tof the best on display. The 1s who can do things that 99.9999% of others cant are the real deal. Humans admire whoever is best within their ranks and put them on a pedestal for a good reason. Most people even if being trained by these guys will never be able to repeat their feats of courage and willing to risk it all for that moment.
@vagabond142

I don't think they're lunatics. I mean, I ride a sport touring bike so I do certainly have a screw loose somewhere :D. There is a great quote from Guy Martin in one of the documentaries about the race where he's talking about why people race there, and he said (I'm paraphrasing because Guy Martin uses utter Lincolnshire BlokeSpeak, which is awesome) "I've had a couple of close calls there, but nothing can beat that buzz of riding on the edge of death." So, they're not lunatics. They're explorers. They're exploring what it's like to live a millisecond away from death and ride that razor's edge. I mean, doing the speed limit on my Ninja 650 is already an experience because of what you feel and experience.... but no way am I going 320 KPH, sorry :P

Bikers are the coolest bunch of people on this earth. Despite reputation, and sometimes appearances, they are also the nicest group of people you'll meet. Nothing false about them, tell it how it is, will do anything for their brothers and sisters, and every fellow biker is a brother (or sister). They do huge amounts of charity work, that often gets ignored. When it comes down to the line and you need help, they'll be there when others won't. I believe it's because every biker understands any ride can be their last ride. They make the most of life.

It’s one of the most prestigious races in the world. Like the 24 hours at LaMons, the Indy 500 or Pikes Peak climb, one doesn’t go to this race to win, so much as to just be in the race. Just to race this is unbelievable. It’s an amazing feat if you even finish. And unbelievably amazing if you win.

Nicer people you couldn't wish to meet. These guys have balls of steel and deserve huge respect. They aren't show-offs - they just have a love of bikes and racing. It's in their blood. They calculate the risks and know what the consequences might be if they make a small mistake. Liam has never done the TT because his mum and dad made him promise he wouldn't - it's not difficult to see why.

@Dimetime35c good luck with that, I'm assuming you haven't been to the TT yet?. As others have said these guys take years and hundreds of practise laps to get around safely at any decent pace. Check out the lap times in the last few years, incredible. You'd be lucky to get within 5 minutes of the top riders until you get enough experience. Fair play though if you're brave enough to try. I've been going to the TT on and off for 50 years and have ridden around the course loads of times when the roads are open, so observing speed limits. The mountain section is now kept as a one way road during TT fortnight, and there is no speed limit so you can get a move on. Even then, when you can really get going you'd be insane to try and emulate the racers. Many visitors do of course and each year a few come a cropper which results in road closure until the emergency services have cleaned up the mess. Much respect to the competitors, they are a truly a special breed.

It is the same route every year, 37 miles X 6 laps on public roads, over 200 turns and corners. The first week is practice races and the second week are the actual races for several classes of machines. As I understand it, the fastest lap per class wins. In the 100+ years of this event there have been about 204 deaths...including spectators. Attending this event is on my bucket list.

Hi Courtney, I go to this event every year. It is truly awesome. The only way to get the fantastic views and Adrenalin rush is to be there. You think it looks fast on the video, when you are sat there,within feet of the bikes and you can feel the heat of the engine as they go past, it’s amazing. One of the best riders in the world who has won many times around the TT course is a fellow country man of yours, “Bruce Anstey” He’s a legend. To answer your question about the course,it’s 37.75 miles per lap and they do between 4-6 laps depending which race it is. The out right lap record is an average of 135.452mph and a time of 16 minutes 42.778 sec It takes at least 3yrs of competing there to really learn the course. Get yourself there,but I warn you, once you’ve been you’ll want to go back again and again. It gets in your blood.

The mountain section of the Isle of Man doesn’t have speed limits most of the time. Just through the towns. There are riders that die every year and spectators too after the racing is done for the day. I think it’s about 4-6 riders die every year between pros and spectators. There is tank every year about cancelling the race but I hope it never happens. They are a special kind of rider that does the TT .

@@zurgemister Wrong. In the UK the national speed limit is 60mph, in the Isle Of Man the national speed limit is unrestricted meaning you can go as fast as you like. The Isle of Mann (pronounced "Man") is a small island between England and Ireland. For 2 weeks every year, this race takes place. The event itself is over (I think) 100 years old, and around 260 people have died racing it, plus countless life changing accidents. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people go to this island to watch. There are no speed limits. The race itself is a time trial, where the riders are staggered at regular intervals, with each rider completing 6 laps. The lap is over 37 miles, through villages, hamlets, mountains and valleys. Quickest man wins. It is perhaps the purest form of racing in the world. The greatest one off race ever, in my opinion.

Usually at least one person dies in the TT ( tourist trophy ) each year. Watch some of the crashes, they will give you nightmares. 1 lap is around 37/38 miles long and it is basically a full tour of the Island, they usually pit after 3 laps of a typical 6 lap race. These races sometimes come down to seconds between the riders finishing the race of around 240 odd miles. Some riders are stronger on the open long winding areas in the mountains/countryside, and some riders excel in the built up areas. Half is in the countryside and the other half is through the built up street areas. Many spectators will literally stand in their front gardens with a beer and watch the riders wizz past. Spectators are often just a few feet away from the action with riders flying past you at regular speeds typically between 150 and 200mph. Often the riders corner in the built up areas and their heads are inches away from boundary walls. The course is known by all riders beforehand and it is OPEN to anyone that has the balls and a certain level of skill. - hence it's name " the TT - or tourist trophy ". In the lead up to the real racing starting, ANYONE can ride the course on a motorbike. That includes everyday riders. You just need a working bike, helmet and leathers and BIG BIG BALLS. My friend Jayne ( a mother of two small kids ) is a pillion passenger for an amateur sidecar rider. She travels all over on the amateur and semi/pro race calendar and yes, she has raced the TT. There isn't just one race, there are many. they cover sidecar racing, electric bikes, the smaller bikes - right up to the superbikes and I believe they also have veterans races AND vintage bike racing. These main races are usually contested by big big teams with professional riders, but occasionally, independent riders qualify somehow to try to mix it with the big boys. None of the kerb stones are removed, none of the manhole covers are removed, some of the lamp posts have a pitiful amount of crash protection around them and only a few areas of the course have bales of hay/crash barrier type protection for the riders. All riders know how lethal this course is, they all know they can die that day and that is part of the thrill of taking part. The roads are totally closed during racing and usually, you pick your spot to spectate and you stay there. There is NO speed limit for either the racing OR the open period for none participants. Being as though this is the single most dangerous motor racing event in the world, that is one of the reasons that so many people travel to the Isle of Mann each year to either see it, or participate. Crashes are very often fatal. I believe that there is also a gentleman's agreement to restrict bikes to a maximum power level.

These are the bravest athletes in any sport! Unfortunately when something goes wrong, it's usually catastrophic. Many men have died over the years running this race. It's an amazing event. Kudos to everyone of them

On the ferry back to Liverpool from The Isle of Man in 2019, I sat with a guy from New Zealand. We became good friends before we docked. We both had far to go, but he had a LOT farther than my trip back to Alabama. Met a lot of wonderful people there. It's a really good crowd from all over our planet with a common interest. I was sitting right where the guy in the blue plaid shirt was sitting in this video for one of the races. If you ever go, be sure to take in The Southern 100 down in Castletown. It even crazier.

I knew this was going to come after the last motorcycle video. It’s absolutely insane what they do... no thanks. Send me back to Afghanistan over that.

I apologize if some one already mentioned this but search for Guy Martin’s accident. He’s okay now.
