Hi, I think this band did a fantastic job. I marched 3 years of DCI and 3 years of college band. So, I have a little perspective on what Alena said. A couple of things: 1. In DCI we performed almost every other day for our 2 month tour. I performed in 3 indoor venues each year. Definitely not a majority of any kind and certainly not all. 2. High leg marching and straight/bent leg corp marching have their unique set of challenges. To be done well, both require hard work, attention to detail, body awareness, and a lot of basics work. 3. DCI drill (shapes the performers make and how they get to each one) is WAY harder to pull off. In college bands, you are coordinating WAY more performers. So again, different challenges. 4. The piccolo, flute, clarinet, and sax are known as woodwinds. The trumpet, mello, french horn, trombone, baritone, euphonium, and tuba are all known as brass. Marching drums and cymbals are known as battery. The stationary instruments in the front are known as the front ensemble or pit. And we all know and love the colorguard who needs not introduction. The difference in the two bands is in fact that corps don't have woodwinds. Also, sometimes college bands don't have a front ensemble and opt to replace the colorguard with baton twirlers and dance teams....some bands have it all. Just depends. Hope my insite is helpful

I've been a fan of udub for years, I've gone to every home game for the past 9 years and I've traveled to many of the bowl games. I plan to attend there in 2022 and join the band. I highly recommend more of their band, drumline, and football videos throughout the years.

I live right next to this stadium and can hear the band practice. Yes it is cold up here, especially between Nov and March. A lot or rain. Thanks Courtney, this is so special because its close to home. BTW your channel still seems to be growing. You must be doing something right. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was a great video! The University of Washington Husky Marching Band is one of the high Stepping Bands in the country. This takes a lot of skill to do this and play well. Notice the band has the entire show memorized. This was the half time show between the University of Washington, Arizona State University football game at Husky Stadium in Seattle on a very wet and cold Saturday evening.

Marching in the rain is not fun at all but it also shows the dedication of those in the husky marching band. Many band members also march DCI during the summer and I have many friends who are part of the HMB

Loved your reaction. I figured you would enjoy this video. the Twirler you had seen in the video is Kristie Burris Forrest who won national title for her twirling. The main thing about the rain is making sure to wipe down your instrument. That was an unusual cold late October day. The beginning of the show was Doctor Who, then it was Game of Thrones and lastly Star Wars. The mascot is a husky and yes there is a real live husky at the games and other functions named Dubs II (We call the university U-Dub). GO DAWGS!!!

PICK-a-low. The band is performing music from several sci-fi shows and movies, including the long-running British show Doctor Who (the Daleks are evil robot-like creatures who have been the primary villains almost from the beginning) and Star Wars. And yes, both college and high school bands perform in all kinds of weather, while DCI only performs during the summer months. I still say you need to check Ohio State University Marching Band's traditional pre-game routine, including their entry on the field, playing the fight song, playing the school alma mater and their trademarked "Script Ohio". Ohio State's band is more like a DCI corp because they have only brass and percussion instruments with no woodwinds. (I'm not from Ohio State and have nothing to do with the university at all...I just find this routine to be very entertaining).

Yeah it’s basically a flute - same shape and all except it’s tuned one octave higher in pitch. Ian Anderson of the band “Jethro Tull” plays one. The song “Locomotive Breath” 🚂 there’s a solo part where he does the piccolo. It’s real pretty sounding. 😎

Just a question but do you prefer college marching band or dci? Personally I love dci but find college marching band disappointing compared to dci. Also colorguard in college is most of the time boring and not doing anything interesting( besides baton). I also love the thematic shows and artistic side of dci.

Hi Bella! Oooo that's a good question! I can only base it off the few videos I've seen of marching bands, and I love how they have so much fun with it and create "characters" and make them move and stuff.But at the same time, DCI is incredibly impressive on so many different aspects and the amount of work that goes into the shows. IDK ay, I think I would have to say that I prefer DCI, but I really love both for sure for sure.

I am in the UofSC band, but I definitely prefer DCI. The reason the shows are slow/basic is because for us we only have one, maybe two weeks to learn the whole thing. The Carolina band has a new show for every game. hard to learn complex stuff when you only have about 12-24 hours total to learn it.

@@CourtneyCoulston I don't find college bands disappointing at all. After the game the UW has a concert for anyone who sticks around. They invite other bands to have a band off and it is truly fun to see them all have fun when they play. I will have to set up a video of that.
