CoDGplays To make myself clear, I’m against war. I hate conflicts of any type. To me, the war is causing not just physical damage, but mental damage to both sides. As an American, its my constitutional right to have that opinion. I do, however, respect the soldiers. You can hate the war, but you should never hate the soldier. American soldiers, for the most part, choose to give their life for their nation. That decision deserves respect. I don’t understand what those children in war zones are going through, you’re right. I don’t need to worry about my house being blown to bits or have to take shelter from heavy barrages of artillery. But, I do know the pain of losing a parent. I know what it’s like to see my father unrecognizable as he takes his last breath. It may not have been bloody, but it was horrid nonetheless. My point is simple, my dude. Respect the soldiers, hate the war.

I'm a Marine Corps mother my son spent 13 years in the Marine Corps and he did three tours and now he's a deputy sheriff and you know I am sitting here crying like a baby because I remember him coming home been crying and crying and crying and then crying for the ones that did not come home but thank you for sharing this God bless you

The most gut wrenching moment of my life was watching my brother give his goodbyes to all of us before he left to board a bus for the airport, headed for Baghdad early in the war. The greatest joy in our friendship ever was when he got off the plane on US soil 13 months later. It's so beautiful, yet so bitter sweet seeing these as many Gold Star families never got to do it. Keep it up Courtney.

Ah yes, I remember it well, The girl I was sort of seeing helped me pack, helped me load my car, and when it was time to go to Battalion, she said she couldn't handle it and drove off, We got to our FOB on Valentine's Day which made it worse, But yes, I remember the send off, (It's in the beginning of my video)

Sobbing. I’m a military brat daughter. I’m 47 years old & still vividly remember the exact feeling all the times my daddy came back home, just from TDY (temporary duty)... not even war. We aren’t on very good terms and haven’t been for over 20 years but nothing can ever erase those surprises and hugs and tears. Thankfully, despite everything, I can still go to him & tell him I need a daddy hug and it’s always the same feeling. I don’t like him... but I love him so much. I’m just sobbing. Growing up in a military family is hard, but it makes you really appreciate what matters.

i grew up what is termed an Army Brat. My dad served in Korean War in the Navy *b4 he and my mom even met* and in the Army and Served in the Vietnam War in country. Back then being a Soldier or a dependent of a soldier was not a goo thing. Not only did we move every 2 years or less. Once people found out we were military most ignored us and were very rude. And in school the kids, most of them wanted to start fights, pull knives on me, surround me as a gang and start a fight. It was not much better for my mom. And dad well they spit on him and called him baby killer when he came home from Nam. Now it seem like about half of the people really honor Vets and those serving and the other half, well some will act like they are honoring but in a back handed way. I am very proud my dad served. Out of his five boys 4 of them served. And half of his grand kids have or are serving.

As a veteran I saw stuff like this all the time. Not the surprise, but the joy of seeing a missing loved one. See, after you come back from a deployment you have a massive parade and tons of family come and see you. This is, of course, after a long and tiring plane ride. Little kids break free from their mommies and run to daddy all the time. Quite touching and sweet.

I've got to experience coming home as a single soldier and coming home as a husband and dad. Seeing the excitement and emotion on your kids faces turns you into an emotional wreck so quick. The key is to try to maintain the feeling of reuniting because after a few days it starts to present challenges. Your family has gotten used to your absence and has adapted. It's so easy for us to go back into the mode we were in before we left, but we cannot expect them to. It's a slow process getting everyone used to you being around again and requires patience and understanding.

I suggest reading on why the military isn't serving for your freedom and how the troops aren't taken care of by the country they love to serve so much. Milions of troops put their lives at risk for a country that is selfish and sends people abroad for its selfish wants and desires of money and power. just a small bit of reading for you : "the U.S. army, the most powerful military force in all of history, has not been able to fully conquer such a small country as Iraq because of the level of domestic resistance to a foreign invasion. Hi Courtney. I believe the young marine and the girl in the wedding dress were brother and sister. She was bummed because he wasn't going to be able to get home for the wedding. My older brother was a 30 year navy guy, and a bunch of those years (including 2 tours in Viet Nam) as a Seal. Hard on a family, but somehow brings them so close. Love your reactions. I surprised my grandparents at Christmas in uniform. My grandfather was in the Navy during WW2 and he wore my white hat most of the night. A picture from that night is in a family collage. I also have his Bluejackets manual from his time in boot camp. It’s next to mine on a bookshelf.

Courtney, this is the heart and soul of patriotism. Regardless of your nationality, the sacrifice of military personnel is the same around the world. Their life is a blank check for their country's government, with the understanding that they're serving a cause greater than themselves. For my high school graduation, my dad was deployed to Iraq, I had accepted my dad wasn't going to be there growing up in the military it's just something you get used to. I was told we were going to pick up my aunt from the airport and seen a solider which was kinda like rubbing salt in the wound, then a few mins later my dad came walking down off the same plane.

I served in the US Navy for 10-years, only got to do this once, but still have the memory, 40+ years later. My ship was scheduled to deploy close to our Thanksgiving holiday, so I wasn't going to home...then, we had to postpone sailing for 3-weeks, so my Division Officer approved my leave-request....*could* have phoned home to let everyone know, I suppose...the look on my Mom's face when I walked in was priceless...first and only time I ever heard a "dirty word" slip from her lips, too lol Scenes like these are repeated quite often, all over the world...our ships can be deployed for 8 or 9 months, or even longer, and Homecoming - the return to your home-port - is amazing to witness, even if you don't have anyone waiting for you on the pier. You stand next to your friends, trying to find their family for them in the crowd below...seeing them light up when they finally DO spot each other is awesome.

I also remember my son leaving and returning from Afghanistan. I am not ashamed of crying like a baby. Please support our troops,we owe them so much. Be proud to be an American. I'm stationed overseas in the USAF and get to work with our military kids several times a week. Let me assure you that they're just as tough as our Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines; they're the toughest kids in the world. They constantly confide in me their worries. They have normal concerns like any other kids, like their parents getting divorced, but then they worry about their parents on deployment and them getting hurt or worse . Yet, simultaneously they go above and beyond for each other. They help their non-deployed parents manage everything from the house chores to taking care of their siblings, all while sometimes not even living in their own nation. These kids also truly love their country, every day I see the kids outside, sun, rain or snow displaying their respects at Reveille no matter how hot or cold or wet they get they show respect to their nation. And to top it all off, they never ask for anything other than the safety of their parents. These videos really hit me hard because I know how much it means to them to see their parents, I've seen their sacrifices. I just wish their country knew the sacrifices our service member's children make, because unlike me they didn't sign up for it, they were born into it.

All of the worries the family members go through. All of the prayers that are prayed every day for their loved ones. When the military soldiers come home to surprise their loved ones with their return, their emotional tears represent so much sacrifice, loneliness, and the days, months, and years of separation which are required. They all miss out on so much: Milestone birthdays, proms, graduations, weddings, deaths, births, first steps, first words, the loss of their child's first baby tooth, recitals, sports games, holidays, etc. All of this so that we can remain FREE!! When I came home, between the end of Viet Nam and the election of Reagan, no one greeted me. I rode the bus 18 hours from my last duty station to the nearest bus station and waited for four hours outside the closed depot for family to come pick me up.

I was an Army brat for my entire childhood and a soldier for 8 years. These videos get to me but they also annoy me... These moments are so personal and honestly they feel a little disingenuous when they involve a crowd... Surprising a loved one is cool, but seeking attention when you do it just feels wrong. LIKE I SAID- it still gets to me, because I know the feels from both sides. It's just the crowds and cameras that annoy me.

Courtney, I have experienced this from both sides, the first time 1970 when my father came home from Vietnam and second when I came home from Desert Storm. It filled my eyes with tears both times.

This video, and your reaction to it broke me. I served in the U.S. Navy for over 24 years. 13 deployments during my career. Went through a divorce in Pennsylvania just after 9/11, had two wonderful kids age 9 and 8, and then transferred from PA to a deployed Navy fighter squadron on combat operations during ENDURING FREEDOM several months later. Little did I know I wouldn't see my kids for a year and half, and would only see them three weeks during the next three year tour of duty. Two combat cruises and nearly a third. Took a follow-on assignment to Washington DC when I left to be as close to my kids as could and it was the greatest feeling in the world, being there with my kids all the time, any time. Like heaven. Four years later, it was time for another sea tour, and my son really struggled with me leaving. We talked it out Easter weekend 2007 when the kids were with me, took them home to their Mom, went to work on Monday and out of no where told my boss I was retiring from the Navy. I'd done everything in my career field, nothing left to prove, nothing more give other than to my kids. I just couldn't say goodbye anymore to the two people I loved most in this world, to continue to serve, the best job I'd ever have. Best decision I ever made in my life. Thank you for sharing this video Courtney, and your sincere and heartfelt reaction to it. Both beautiful and hard to watch for me at the same time.

It definitely is an emotional, happy moment for the military and their families when they reunite with them. I tear up every time i see these reunions. The sacrifices they all make to keep America and the world a safe place. God Bless these military guys and their families . God Bless America.

After my son went into the Army i was so proud! now after not seeing him for over a year because he is deployed im so honered to see this and so sad at the same time! thank you for doing these videoes cause its really a struggle but for a great cause!

My daughter just graduated from Air Force bootcamp and the graduation ceremony was incredible. When I tapped her out, our embrace was the most intensely happy we'd ever been. I wish every family could experience that moment.

My dad served in the military for 20 yrs. it was always hard to see him go and not see him for months but it was always worth it when he came home. Those were my favorite memories. This taught my family how to stick together through thick and thin

I love the holiday ones where they surprise them for Christmas...talk about try not to cry on that one when they thought they weren’t coming home for Christmas but do. A cute one to watch is the dog reunion ones, watching how exited their dogs get when they return😂

When I see the emotional reaction to people seeing a loved one return home from a military deployment, I just have to think it is part joy to see them again and relief that they are safe. I would imagine there is a lot of daily stress worrying for their safety in a combat deployment and having them home is an emotional release of the stress.

This video is quite moving. My youngest son is a Marine. He is on a cruise now. It has been a long time since I have seen, or hugged him. He was in Japan before this cruise began.
