Thought that was Stew jumping in at the beginning - watch that back! 😆. Good to hear you got some rest time after being on the go so much. That’s a beautiful tree and Wanaka sounds a great vibe place.

Fantastic views driving next to the lakes, very Scottish looking, but without the single track roads and passing places. Oh, and of course the terrible hot weather.

Those bridges look narrow! Lovely breakfast spot. Blue pools were gorgeous. Didn’t fancy diving in then? 😉Fabulous scenery. Wanaka sounds very nice. Good to take a break from travelling sometimes . Incredible tree. That dog ❤.

Unsurprisingly we are seeing so much similarities in the NZ landscape compared to where we are. There is a tree like that in the water at Loch Lomond, also well known by photographers. Great episode you two!
@getawaygeese Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching - yes there is sone similarities as you go higher but we also see more tropical rainforest type landscapes in some place - it’s got a lot of things I must admit

I'm loving these vlogs, brings back happy memories of our 2 motorhome trips to NZ. We were on the Interisland Ferry when they had the big quake which flattended large parts of Christchurch
@getawaygeese Жыл бұрын
Glad they invoke memories - did you feel anything of the quake as that must of been some event
@frankfurter726 Жыл бұрын
Didn't feel anything at sea but a real buzz went round the ship as it unfolded. We flew home from Christchurch airport a week or so later and that was undamaged. On the way south we stopped in Kaikoura (on the coast) and the talk was of of a quake about 10 miles out at sea causing a tsunami which didnt reach shore but a few days later they had the big one in Japan which took out the nuclear power station. A memorable trip !

Hi Stew and Jane. You have been unlucky with the weather. You took the same route as me down the west coast but I pulled off to the north of Lake Hawae to a stunning lake side side before heading off the Wanaka and the tree! Interested to hear you went back to the north island I stayed on the South Island and handed the van back in Christchurch (pick up Auckland.). Which meant I had much more time in South Island. Shame about Milford sound, you could have driven down there and through the spectacular tunnel and some great freedom sites just before the ferries. My autocampers van goes off to Sheffield in the coming week to be converted 😀🤞🏻

Great video sharing your experiences. We drove straight past Wanaka on our way to Queenstown so missed out on what looks like a lovely town. That meal you had sounds fantastic 🤗❤

Yeah we missed out Queensland weirdly but we had to choose places based on our time ….. we had a great few days down time though so that was also great You would of liked the food but not cheap Thanks for watching and commenting

As a resident of wanaka I can say that it is nice but expanding fast, we as of now have shops and such that people typically go to Queenstown for

70 years ago we used to swim where the Wanaka tree is. It started life as a , fence post and still had wire on it. It took root and became what it is today.
@getawaygeese Жыл бұрын
Oh wow so I guess the water levels must have risen if it was a fence - glad it has survived - it must be quite a short species of tree I guess - thanks for watching

There were quite a few posts going into the lake and that was to stop the sheep heading into town. This was the one that survived.
