Defence effectiveness: England Scrum dominance: ABs Line out: Mario Itoje Clear and effective gameplan: England play territory Constructed phase play tries: England Protecting possession: England The breakdown: England Errors impacting: ABs The difference at the end: Beauden Barrett Honourable mentions: Itoje dominant, NZ bench props, Cortez Ratima into pressure and sped up the clearance. Bad luck, England. You have a bright future (if you get some props) and you’ve been great tourists.

The difference was the strength the ABs have off the bench. However, England have a lot to look forward to with this young team.

England won the territorial battle with 62%, they won the line-outs but the AB's prevailed in the scrums and of course the score. The NZ commentary loved Marcus Smith

NZ fans were stoked when Marcus Smith was taken off - seems like a weird approach given he is such a clever, brave player and good communicator. Yes, bench depth the key difference as B Barrett, the front row, Jacobson all stepped up the pace and carry impact. ALB seems to bring a more accurate game than Ioane and complements J Barrett better. Put Ioane onto the wing for better pace - not sure which one to replace though!

Drop Reece. Yes he scored a try last week but honestly any good winger would have had that. If we are having to drop Jordie back to cover his wing against a kick, he shouldn’t start. Reiko to the last wing, Telea on the right. Procter to 13.

Ioane used to play on the wing and was very effective, however,he prefers centre but not good at passing the ball when required.Cant remember when he last made a clean break in the mid field.

I think ABs fans seem more willing to recognise Marcus Smith’s quality than English pundits do! He’s one of about three or four players that NZ would gladly swap out their own players for (others being Itoje, Martin, Mitchell, maybe Cunningham-South)

The English recycling of ball was markedly faster and it wasn’t until the AB’s replacement halfback came on that they had parity. The AB’s have yet to realize the style they were able to pay with Aron Smith.

England should be happy to take both tests to the wire. But, the ABs did their thing, and let's face it, the all black could have scored 2 tries if they could have passed better in the red zone. Great test.

Glad to see Mitchell stay on, feel we need Smith to be playing 80 minutes, why doesn't he? Itoje seemed gassed from 60 and conceded penalties from then. Props a massive issue and steward unfortunately not international 15, no acceleration or foot work. Sounds really critical given we ran the ABs close twice, but there you go.

Locks are and they aren't, in that we have plenty of tall big men in super rugby. What do they have to do in key role, jump and push.Just pick 2 of the young locks around and graft them into the team.As for halfback, young ging is far too slow on decision and pass, but we have options.

Spot on summary. England will be better when Genge, Chessum, Obano, JVP, Quirke and Ford are available. Sadly you are right that Stuart is not quick or agile enough for this level. Carpenter can count himself unlucky not to be tried today. Nice cameo from Sleightholme....look forward to more in the Autumn. England need to declare a crisis at TH prop! IMHO a fair result would have been 1 match each but hopefully England will take this on the chin and learn how to become ruthless.

If England had just that little bit more incisivenes (and a decent TH) they could have made it, granted that the AB defence was ferocious. But we seemed to run out of ideas inside the 22 other than poking grubbers through - maybe missing Furbank steaming up as a 2nd playmaker? Steward was all at sea. Even when he gets a chance to counter, he just falls over. I think that will be the end of him at FB for England now. Get Slightholme starting and Freeman to 13. Stuff the wing kick chase, I'd rather have pace and more chance of a break through the middle. Another dynamic carrier in the backrow would be nice too. If underhill isn't making the big hits, he doesn't offer much else. Earl (although he was terrible today) to 7 and let's have a look for another option at 8.

@@alanb9443 I know everyone has been singing his praises, rightly so, but I don’t like Earl at 8. I don’t think he has the physicality and skills that a top-end 8 needs to have, and I think that’s why he’s turned into a penalty machine this tour. Must have given away 6-7 pens over the two matches.

Earl is not a Test 8 - against decent teams he gets found out because he cannot distribute and is only ever looking at his feet and trying to be the main character by running straight off the back of the scrum up the inside channel and straight into contact. Steward is woeful. Rodd cannot scrummage. Itoje did some good, but was the usual penalty magnet - when Chessum is fit, start him and Martin, bench Itoje as 6/4 cover. drop Curry altogether, bench Underhill, put Earl at 7 and play Dombrandt at 8, as we need his vision and continuity play.

Good watch, really enjoyable test, got to disagree slightly though, thought we deserved something out of this, territory, possession all England's, just a bit of ill discipline, scrummage problems. Freddie's a big drop off, front row still an issue, but there's plenty of plus points, beauden, was the difference maker for the ABs, but TBH even though we lost 2 zip, I'd say the ABs will have more concerns than England.

It’s not harsh to say Steward wasn’t what England needed here. He’s been left behind by the development in England’s game plan. Furbank has shown the value of a fullback that has true counter attack abilities, the ability to see the field like a 10 and pace. Whilst I think Steward has merit, he looks like a player out of position to me. Maybe a 12 shoehorned into 15 at age grade level? Who knows. For me the biggest issue is at Tighthead prop. At least at loosehead Genge didn’t tour and Obano and Rapava-Ruskin missed out through suspension and injury/not sure what else. At tighthead Davison and Painter must surely get a go now. They are limited around the field, but they are big lumps who are hard to shift.

We desperately need props that can scrummage, Baxter looks like he's got a future, but we need another loose head and a couple of tight heads. We also need more strength in depth, we were less competitive when the benches came on. I thought Sleightholme was the only replacement who looked up to it.

More disappointed in this loss than last weeks to be honest England still not a full spectrum team But are heading in the right direction To my mind the big difference between the teams Was Bauden Barett when he came on He was outstanding in both attack and defence While England where still not clinical enough with their passing Also iam again NOT IMPRESSED WITH Nic Berry as a international referee How he missed the ABs diving at the feet of the England maul at the end is beyond me [ bringing it down illegally ] Then compounded his error by saying O.Lawrance was obstructing WHEN HE WAS BOUND TO J.GEORGE AT ALL TIMES Was wrong When England do get some decent TIGHT HEAD props [ and we will have them very soon [E.Painter, - T.Davison - J.Iosoefa-Scott - .E Iyogun and the two superstars from our current U20s squad B. Sela and A.Opoku-fordjour ] To go with our string of class looseheads E.Genge - F.Baxter - B.Obano - B.Rood - [B.Sela] ]England will start to have a formidable squad of players and be REAL challengers [ hopefully] for the 2027 RWC I also agree that F.Stewards international future is at 12 Where his lack of real pace isn't such a handicap and he can really use his power and strength and his big boot We do know such a transition is possible just look at Jodie Barrett

Kiora uce well summed up. England were good, Mario n Marcus were the best in first halve, and Beauden was the man in the 2nd. They ultimately changed the qame n the momentum in there seperate halves. As ABs supporter relieved like Ozzie were at getting 2 n 0, maybe the Bok will follow the south dominance too.

England gave it a good shot but ultimately not good enough. We need to develop a better midfield attacking plan, just cross kicking or grubber kicking to the wing was predictable. Does Borthwick even watch the match? I really don’t understand his substitutions. Smith and IFW were our best players and he takes them off. Sleightholm looked better than Freeman and should have subbed him. Steward was poor and Ben Earl looked off colour again.

Are there any critically minded fans of rugby out there getting sick & tired of the poor officiating. Itoje was ahead of the England restart by a whopping 3m at the end of the first half, effecting the turnover to give England 7pts. These are fundamentals of the game that are usually picked up. Subtract 7pt from England, and give ABs a penalty from halfway. The first penalty for England in the 2nd half was unprecedented. A passive collision between Papalii leading to an England player diving ineffectually into the breakdown (when he wouldn't have otherwise). Subtract 3pt from England. ABs technically won by an additional 10pts tonight. No sore loser/winner here...just a fan of the sport whom wants to see a fair contest. World Rugby must explain.
