11:02 - Backwards Zelda’s Lullaby is Ballad of the Goddess from Skyward Sword.
@christinew85284 ай бұрын
☝ Yep!
@Nichou_The_WindMaker4 ай бұрын
Yep. From a lore perspective, you can even consider that the Ballad of the Goddess is the one which was reversed to get Zelda's Lullaby. I find it particularly interesting then that OoT-Zelda, presumably the sage of time, played the reversed Ballad of the Goddess (presumably the goddess of time) to send Link back in time.

I gain sooooo much appreciation for how much the writers of the music truly love the world and motifs of zelda!!! Thank you so much for breaking this down! More people need to see this.

Yes, loved it! I am the world's biggest sucker for a deftly placed leitmotif, and eagerly await the day when game soundtracks respond on-the-fly to on-screen action the way well-orchestrated movie soundtracks are written to do... John Williams is SO good at this in songs like Battle of Yavin. I'd like to see game soundtrack emulate this even better than the end of TotK as Link dives through the air, reaching for [spoilers]... Imagine an encounter where the cutscene ends, and then the music turns menacing as the player scrambles to avoid taking more damage as the boss' attacks land mercilessly all around. The music shifts as the player begins to dodge more effectively, and then a discovery motif rings out in the midst of the boss theme as a weakness is finally found. The hero's theme surges to the fore as the player begins to attack in earnest, but the boss theme roars back at the start of a new phase of the battle, darker and more brutal than previously. The player is running critically low on health, and the hero's theme returns, but it's become dissonant and desperate... The boss is also low on health, and the music screams to a fervent pitch as the two combatants attack each other, but who will land the final blow... ? (Been daydreaming about this kind of thing for about 35 years now) I do feel like this idea is the purpose for the orchestra hits when Link lands an attack in (SS?) (TP?), albeit in a simpler form. The approach to the Wind Temple-through-Colgera also took great strides towards this, I felt.

@X24-SC21V This, for sure, is gameplays' definitive goal with musical motifs. What musicals and plays have done for 100's of years, we can only hope those with the creativity and ambition can realize within the gaming space. I would love to see someone come out with a top list of games that provide this kind of ambitious musical landscape for their games.

I think the reference to Zelda's Lullaby in the overworld theme goes further than you noticed. If we start at the long low G after the rhythmic pattern, then the sequence of notes is GABDA, which the bar change after the first A. If you flip things around and start at the B, then you get BDAGA, which is the order of the notes in Zelda's Lullaby! (incidentally GABDA is close to the major form of Terra's theme from FF6, that got me confused for a bit)

When Zelda is running to look over at the Hyrule landscape - that was the same build up used in the first Breath of the Wild trailer. Also, when the voiceover (which I'm quite sure is voice actor Nicolas Roye) starts describing the game, it sounds like it's echoing Fi's theme, combined with the Silent Realm, from Skyward Sword but maybe my brain is just being dumb.

I’ve already watched this announcement at least 5 times. I may be a fan of playing as Link, but hey, I’m also a fan of all things Zelda, I’m quite positive this will be awesome! But for her to have her own style in a mainline game will be the real deal!

I like how they also incorporated the protagonist this time being Zelda into the music. To make her just a reskin of Link would've been boring, when she is her own character with her own strengths, so to see that reflected not only in the gameplay but also in the music is great. I guess we might even get a Zelda theme outside of Zelda's Lullaby, the one that starts like Link's, perhaps to make the distinction between Zelda as a character in Link's adventure and Zelda as the main character in her own adventure.
