Less aerodynamic maybe is true but 28mm has less rolling resistance than 25mm & 28mm. 28mm GP5000 has as lower rolling resistance at 100psi than 25mm has at 120psi. So 28mm is faster & can be more comfortable than 25mm

The "hockless invention" sound more like marketing, than real improvement to me. Listened to a podcast with Conti's product-manager for road-bike tires lately and he didn't seem so happy about hookless. Resume more or less was: rim-manufactureres like hookless as it's easier to produce hookless carbon rims, since the design isn't so complex, but it's very challenging to keep the tire safely on a hookless rim with the hight pressures you ride on road-bikes.

When you go 20sec faster in downhill 10km because of tubular vs tubeless how can they sale this? when you ride a bike you dont ride it straight and on flat. When you are racing you are in pack so you dont save really the watts, only if you are in breakaway or front of group... when you need to warning brakes and you loose all tyres surface or tubelesse in one warning brake i dont think it's worth at training. zipp have really good wheel, they have strong hub with low friction. they are affordable and thats why no tubular.

@@jkk916 Here's the thing. I know people say cars and motorcycle rims are hookless, so there's no reason a bike rim can't be. BUT, those applications run much lower tire pressure, and the tires have crazy stiff beads Mountain bike rims, similar situation. Wide rim, wide tire, low pressure, hookless works. Now, road cycling, you're dealing with much higher pressures, and comparitively narrow rims. When you see the 73psi max on these rims, it's because tire retention goes to hell at about 80psi. That's the number that ETRTO uses as a max before a rim must have a hooked design. So, if you're going to limit the psi to 80 or below, the rim needs to be pretty wide, at which point rim brakes (and sometimes rim brake frames and forks) start to have clearance issues. So, you could make it, but there's not many applications for it.....

promised Zipp that I would start commenting on the fact that these wheels suck up water and in even light rain (puddles), become scary to ride fast. And there is no easy way to get rid of the water stuck in the rim even days after riding {you can spin the wheels and bump on the ground for a couple of hours - 80% effective), but really? Others suggest breaking down the wheels/tires and remount, but that's nuts, and you can never wash your wheels.... or worse yet, have to stop to check wheels for water before descending at high speeds if there are any corners Yes, they will drill holes at their factory which is at least something (you have to ship back to Indiana with questionable results and who wants to go without a bike for weeks with a potentially questionable hack).....Granted the new production has holes drilled in but this is a big defect and should be replaced. I might never buy a Zipp or SRAM product ever again. Now for the good part - I really liked (as in past) these wheels and for the $ cheaper performance than their NSW or other exotics. They ride smooth, easy to install hookless, tubeless approved tires (get a booster pump), and the lifetime warrant sounds good, maybe not for design defects though. I've ridden about 2000 miles, and tubeless 28s is the way to go (4 punctures sealed with mucoff sealant). That said, if I had to do it again, I would probably spend even more money for wheels that don't act like sponges.

Then when they did the video on building the fastest bike they could they used 23mm tyres because (yes you guessed it) the Aerodynamics are better and they roll faster... now in this video we are told 28mm tyres are faster because of rolling resistance and Aerodynamics? So why not take it to it's logical conclusion and put fat bike tyres on it? You now see why I tell people not to trust what GCN say, they just read the script...
@darrylhuculak49964 жыл бұрын
It's not just the tires but the tire and wheel combination. The new wheel science focuses on not just the tire but the interaction between tire and rim. If a wider rim can be lighter and more durable, then chances are it will be more efficient with a wider tire. Personally I noticed an improvement a few years ago when I switched from running 23 mm GP4000 at 110psi to 25mm at 100 psi on the same cheap aluminum rims. Faster speeds, smoother ride, and fewer pinch flats. However moving up to a 28 or 30 mm tire (assuming my frame allows it) on those same rims would probably not give me the same improvements because that's not what they were engineered for.

You can buy very high quality carbon wheel at best price, Zipp is very expensive.
@gcn4 жыл бұрын
These are more affordable than their previous wheels and Zipp have a great reputation for quality products, so they if they're as good as Zipp claim they're sure to be a success

So if I wanted these for a 23mm or 25mm tyres then they're a waste of money?

Sam Livingston Advised tyre widths: 25 mm / 28 mm / 30 mm / 32 mm / 35 mm / 37 mm / 40 mm / 42 mm / 47 mm / 50 mm / 55 mm. But they are optimized/measured for best performance with 28mm tires.

Need a rim brake version...
@stephenang4994 жыл бұрын
The rim brake track would increase the cost of manufacturing. Hence the reason why this lower cost wheel is disc brake only.
@farrier534 жыл бұрын
No you dont! Not at that weight & build, not enough material at the rim to allow for thhe rim heating-up on breaking...etc.

Tubeless ONLY? So, if I get a flat the sealant won't fix I can't put in a tube? I'll pass.

You missed the part where he said you can still put a tube in your tubeless ready tyre.

@@magnusdagbro8226 Sorry. I guess I was confused. I read on Velonews... "If you’re a neo-traditionalist who loves clinchers-with-tubes, you’re out of luck - these new wheels can be set up with tubeless tires only."
@Digi204 жыл бұрын
@@showlowitsqueentlee2737 they reccomend tubeless tires for the hookles rims, because they have tighter tollerances and wont blow of the rims. you can, however, of course use tubes in those tires.

Even though sponsored, this was still 'objective enough' by keeping to facts. Thanks for that! It would appear Zipp has been hearing the chirps from a certain engineer on the youtubes. About time.

Still quite expensive for generic Chinese rims with about the crappiest hubs out there. Without real data published to support their aerodynamic efficiency, there's no reason to get them instead of no-name wheels which cost half the price.

for the same price, I can sure we would get much better deal at farsport or lightbicycle or whatever, I'm pretty sure they come from the same factory anyway
