great honest review. i used to think the same about Winspace and Lun wheels. i bought a pair of disc 50 hypers in November 2021. 1st impressions were so great that in Jan 2022 ordered a second pair. well, my 1st pair never held air for more than 3 days in the front wheel. i blamed it on other possible issues. after i received my second set, i noticed the same thing . front wheel not holding air for more than 2 or 3 days. i tried 3 different brand of tires with the same result. i contacted Winspace and they requested serial numbers and the likes. 3 weeks went by and no feedback from Winspace. i contacted them again and they recommended i replace the valve stem. i tried that and no improvement. after another 2 weeks of emails with Winspace they offered a $200 credit due to the fact that the only solution they could come up with was for me to use the front wheels with inner tubes. i agreed to it. it has been more than 3 weeks now and no refund and no communication from Winspace. i am assuming i have been taken by another chinese manufacturer like many people have. do not be fooled by all the great reviews. people are getting paid to post them.

One positive of the stiffness is these wheels turn like no others, and respond unbelievable is a sprint or out if saddle effort. They are a criterium monster if that is what you're looking for. And seriously light , my 50mm rim brake set weighs in at 1337g on my scales.

Picked up the 303s this week for 820€ (Belgium), can't say I wasn't influenced by some of your older videos on these :) The discount I got pulled me across the line and only 2 rides in, I'm already loving them!! They were an upgrade to my basic alloy wheels that came with the Specialized Roubaix comp 2021. It's such a comfortable and fast ride now, can't wait for the next ride already.

Can You do another video comparing carbon wheels in the same $900 a $1200 price range where you ride, test and review other manufactures such as Roval, HED, Mavic, Reynolds, Zipp, Winspace and perhaps Shimano. That will give you at least seven sets of wheels to test. Then you can give your thoughts on all of them, how they compare against each other, the pluses and minuses for each one and then perhaps pick your top two wheel sets and explain why. This would probably be one of the best wheelset reviews on the Internet and KZbin.

I have a pair of Enve 3.4 RIM and now replaced them with Winspace Hyper 50. I’ve done about 400km on the Hypers but here are my thoughts. Winspace are very stiff and very snappy. Laterally, stiffer than the Enves although the Enves where certainly not flexy. The Hypers are more harsh and when you hit a pot hole or divet, its more jarring. The Hypers feel faster. The Enves are a shallower in the front and I never had cross wind issues. But with Hypers I did feel a cross wind blast on windy days. The Enves, on paper are slightly wider and if thats the case then they do feel more comfy. The Hypers feel more “solid” if that makes any sense. The Hyper hubs are very loud but I’ve seemed to have gotten used to it. The original bearings with the Enves (Ceramic Speed) did feel smoother if I remember correctly. But frankly not worth it as too expensive. My Enves are the ones with ceramic hub. Between the two, the Hypers are faster overall but harsher and yes, higher cross wind impacted. Would I buy them again, definitely. I like how they ride - snappy and solid - albeit not so good on the harshness side.
@tonyg3091

The Hypers are among the stiffest wheels out there, that's for sure. Noticeably stiffer than the Giant stock wheels that come with the TCR. I however ride them tubeless with 28mm GP5000s and that makes the ride quite comfy. Cross winds don't bother me, being 90 kilos has its benefits :):):)

@@tonyg3091 sweet. I’m 64kg. And I should add the Hyper 50 climb awesome!!! I would never have thought a 50 deep wheel could feel so good climbing- and that I believe boils down to its very light weight.

Oh. As for braking. The enves are excellent even in the wet. In the dry they beat the hypers too. Both using their original pads. I haven’t tried the Hypers in torrential rain but I have the enves and the grooved brake track made a HUGE difference. Might have to do with the pads though too.

I think he under plays the Hypers. Im 6000km on my hyper, they are lock. I'm also 90kg and these are stiff enough for my sprinting. He is right they are a bit harsher but if you want stiff wheels, this is how it goes. Lighter, stiffer, better bearings, carbon spokes and faster - not much to talk about really. The more you support good eastern brands, the more western brands drive prices down and drive product quality up. Winspace/Lun, Farsports and Yoeleo are making our western products more competitive and cheaper, it's a good idea to give them a look.

Interesting that the Hypers have just been updated, different depth and profile on front v rear to maximise aero whilst reducing front wheel side wind affects (or at lest that's the theory). They've also reduced the weight slightly, increased the width slightly and other small changes.... interesting.

I have the win space 50 rim brake. I agree with the comment on wind. took them to the highest passes of Colorado, where it blows often, and it was a bad experience with the strongest gusts. I’m heavy at 85kg, for reference. For comfort I agree with conti 5000 25mm. I followed peaktorq and put the 28mm they still go fast and the comfort is amazing at 80 psi back 76 front. Btw the tire you have on the video is not flush with the rim like the conti 5000 25mm do. I mostly ride in flat lands and I love these wheels. I had to learn how to true these wheels but since I did it they have been stable. The company does a great job answering emails and giving information.

have been riding these for almost a year, currently on veloflex tyres. very happy with them overall....the noisy freehub is useful in town to warn people you're coming...but a little annoying coasting in the countryside -- just have to keep pedalling...less disturbed by wind than my previous hunt wheels and the ride feels fine to me, a little more care with tyre pressure required to get the comfort balance feeling right.

Excellent and fair comparison. I have the Zipp 303s and really like them. I run them on my gravel bike. While I am running tubeless, I’m not sure you were right that you can’t run these with tubes. I thought you can run the hookless Zipp 303s with tubes so long as you are using a hookless compatible tire. (That said, if you are wanting to maximize the benefits of the tire, tubeless is probably the way to go).
@supermitendo9654
@supermitendo9654 2 жыл бұрын
The maximum tyre pressure on hookless rims is 72.5 psi. You can insert a tube but most people will exceed that limit unless they use 28, 30, or even 32mm tyres depending on weight.

I've been planning on picking up a pair of Hypers some time this year. Winspace are teasing a new version of the Hypers coming July 1st on their social pages. they're hinting they'll have a wider internal rim width (which should improve comfort further) and a new freehub design. best way to avoid crosswinds is to have a shallower rim depth, so the 38mm versions are the ones to buy here. I'd rule out the Zipps instantly by not being available for rim brakes and being hookless only which to me is flat out dangerous on the road.

The Hypers are less comfortable because they are incredibly stiff. As a result these wheels a more responsive than the Zipps and Enve wheels. This responsiveness is felt while climbing, particularity out of the saddle and sprinting. Narrow rims and tyres are faster overall but a similar wheel to the Hyper but with a wider rim are the Elite Drive wheels that I have not tested. I am 59kg and have had very little problems with the Hyper 50mm rim. Also, it could be argued that a filament wound rim being machine made is less likely to have voids, contamination and defects than a hand carbon laid rim.

I almost brought the hypers in 38mm but ended up getting some bora wto's on the cycle scheme in the UK so the price difference with the wiggle discount applied worked out pretty well 😉 The hub noise would totally put me off its OK for the first 10 minutes but I'd find it annoying on a long event. I got a pair of Hypers and they don't feel overly harsh to me. I don't consider Toronto roads smooth, but they felt pretty good even at 90 psi. One big difference is that the Zipps are not available for rim brake bikes, so if you have an older bike (or just opted for rims), your options are a little more limited.

@@charliedillon1400 take the wheel out. rotate the cassette counter clockwise and pull at the same time it’ll pop right out. Then just pop it back on by pushing down and rotating counterclockwise. Yes excess grease adds resistance.

Hi! 🙂 Maybe u could help to decide what brand and which carbon wheels should I get? My rides are ussualy 30-100km with 100-400 meters of total climbs, so pretty flat. I think I should get around 45-50mm deep wheels? I could buy new zipp 303s from local shop for around 700 EU, or it would worth to spend around 1170 eu for Windpace hyper wheels? Or maybe something else? Also prefer louder hub sound as there where i live many pedestrians walking on bike paths and i dont like bells 🙂

Being a hookless wheelset, the 303S limits which tubeless tires you can use. The HYPERs have no such compatibility issue, but due to their carbon-spoked construction, they're not the best at offering compliance, but they're the best at power transfer. Custom-configuring a wheelset to be built by a reputable wheelbuilding studio is one way to get a good pair of wheels without breaking the bank. Nextie carbon rims + Sapim CX-Ray spokes & nipples + DT Swiss 350 with 54T Star Ratchets (since you want a loud hubset) is one configuration I can think of off the top of my head.

I’ve got Winspace and Farsports. These are fantastic Chinese carbon rims for the money, but in my experience they don’t do well against crosswinds compared to western brands. The far eastern people sure can build carbon wheels, but it looks like their aerodynamics knowledge is not here yet.

Absolutely hate noisy hubs. I see zero advantage to them in any scenario. These guys have a new version of the Hyper”s coming out soon. I’m hoping they are more optimised for 28’s. If so I’ll get a tub of grease to the pawl’s.

Like noisy freehubs! Gets you noticed! As you said "very close, very good and very impressed" so for roughly $1200 bucks compared to $2000-2500 in some wheels, I'd take the very close and very good and very impressed with a few flaws and save $1500 or more lol

Cmon, there’s no competition here.. The Zipps are cheaper, more futureproof with the wider profile, perfectly usable as gravel wheels, you can pick them up in a store, but most importantly they have lifetime guarantee. I honestly think that they are also faster in the real world due to the shape and wide profile. The only thing that speaks for the Winspace is a weight saving of an insane 75g..

@@davidarthur You tried to signal that Winspace were bad, but it came across as ambiguous and you were afraid to offend.
