I am lucky enough to be a current owner of a Zlin Savage Cub. The little beast is just awesome even with the 100 hp 912, and I regularly fly at 7500 to 9500 DA. Agile and balanced, it's a joy to fly. A Norden sounds like a dream come true... especially for us high DA flyers.

For the money, already built this is a great deal! and the sleeping bit is a must have. Long trips and landing somewhere there are no roads or hotels makes this pretty handy. A 3 day flight from Ontario to Vancouver! I wonder what mileage it gets with floats? 6mpg with a 915 turbo is not half bad, and it uses regular gas unlike the still leaded Nav gas! Leaded gas caused a global drip in IQ, and that isn't just some theory.Just one more reason to like the Rotax line. The altitude is why I like the 915.

I had my first RANS S-7 configured so I could sleep in it. The only drawback was I had to take most of my gear out to be able to do it, and pile it up outside, and if it rained....., so I also carried a small tarp.

1:44 It's very unexpected for me here! For previous 30-ish years in my experience the problem with flaps is that, being extended, they create a pitch DOWN force, thus the nose gets lower and lower. Simply because flaps lengthen the wing's cord BACKWARDS hence shifting the lift centerline backwards, hence the CG shifts FORWARD. The leading edge wing shape alterators on contrary lengthen the wing's cord forward, thus shifting the lift's centerline forward. So the CG moves forward creating a nose up pitch. If both systems are used they can balance each other, lengthening the wing's cord in both directions, keeping the center line of lift intact. Nose down with slats extended is pretty much dumb. Cause at small angles of attack the gap between the slat and the main part of the wing happens to be in the shadow of the slat - i.e. not working. There must be some nose up position to make the oncoming air flow under the slat, into the slot and above the wing.

The flap/slat configuration is a lot like Mike Patey's Scrappy. I was wondering when someone would put his design in production.

This wing debuted at AERO 2019 actually where Mike himself commented on Zlin’s post talking about doing electric retractable slats. Scrappy certainly had a bit of influence from Zlin in this regard.

Good report, thanks. Advice: Two people; Two body microphones (positioned as close to the chin as possible) for a better/best signal-to-noise ratio.

Oh boy- another flying tractor! Just joking. It’s apparently the most popular and growing segment of EAB these days. I wish them success. EDIT: This should be a very solid competitor for this aircraft segment. If I could own two planes, this might be the other one. Thank you Bryan!

Welcome! You are getting the "Flying Bug." Embrace it! Now... to find a local Airport that offers flight training and go for an Intro Flight. (Spoiler alert... they will let you actually FLY the Airplane!) :-)

I realize it's light sport, can't fly at night, but what about landing lights, wig wags for better visibility in the landing pattern?

You certainly can fly a Light Sport at night if the aircraft is properly equipped and person holding a Private Pilot Certificate is flying the airplane.

Be nice to have tie down rings instead of using the struts themselves which is not FAA recommended....

Manual fuel management makes no sense to me in the modern age. There should be cross talk and automatic calibrations between all the measured metrics.

Gary Green at Valdez STOL competition recorded a takeoff of 75’ and landing of 87’.

@@nevillecreativitymentor Yes, definitely evolved from a Cub but a very different wing. 29’ wingspan, electric retractable slats, drooped tips, massive frise ailerons and all pushrod control.
