I’ve been working through my samples and this might be my favorite. In a lot of their fragrances there’s a note that feels out of place for me, something a little sour or fecal peeks through. In this, as well as camel, everything just works in harmony, nothing stands out or feels off, but it’s still unique. It’s not a direct match but it reminds me of red wine sangria in the opening and the dry down is so smooth and musky. Can’t wait to pick up a bottle.

I just got a decant of this. This is only my second experience from the house (love Seahorse). I agree with your assessment, it is artistry. Very unique, not mass appealing. STRONG! This was pushing off my skin for 6+ hours and was a still lingering hours after that. I’m surprised how much I like it actually, given the animalic side of it. I need to get a discovery set for this house.

Great review Scoot. May I ask if this Sacred Scarab is in the same league as Elie Saab's Amber or Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan, or even Andy Tauer's Marocain? I am wondering why there is a caveat not to blind buy, or that this can be challenging. I am looking for clean amber scents. Thanks.

I’m not sure about ES Amber or SL Amber Sultan but I am familiar with AT Marocain which is a work of art I feel like Sacred Scarab is more about the burning incense and slight fruity undertones it’s more of a religious feel and AT envokes that dry desert heat with some nice spicy aspects as far as Zoologist goes they can always be a bit anamalic and balsamic which isn’t mass appealing and to the casual fragrance buyer I say test to a seasoned perfume collector I say go for it! I love as far as Amber fragrances go Ambre 114 Histoires de Parfums among others

Just got my nose on it yesterday. The boutique that carries Zoologist in my city gives me free samples of anything I want to try but from the blotter, I didn't enjoy it much, so I didn't take a sample. My top two from the house are still Bee and Chipmunk.

Zoologist is what I love about fragrance, the magic of writing a scent story based on their inspiration. They are true to the lives and lore of the animals. Even if I don’t enjoy some of their fragrances, I enjoy that they bring me on a journey. Would I wear Bat to work? Nope, but am I glad I have smelled it? Yes!
