u mistransformed magic sqaure mixmaster. his rear end extends up and gives the combiner better balance. barrel should be able to be fully extended.

You'll be pleased to know I spent the same amount of time on my newage ones as my magic square ones, and mines doesn't fall apart, can still see the single hinge needed to secure scrapper as a leg being in the wrong place in the video, I actually have a harder time getting it apart than together now it's that solid, even got it and flew it around by the waist rather aggressively to show my missus that it doesn't fall apart like that, she just laughed at said it would be funny if I lost my grip on it while swinging it so hard.

@@builtcube8420 indeed, mine would never fall apart like that, even if i shake it pretty hard. The only real issue is a relatively weak knee but it's still enough to keep any pose super stable. It also might be a case of bad qc on his copy, I dunno

HAHAHAHA....I love the apology at the beginning...bruh, you're good. lol. MS Purple seems to be more muted than NA. I agree that the MS looks better and looks to be bigger than the NA. I like the Head sculpt better on MS as well. It's too bad the Hardware and Materials are lacking on MS as that is an extremely important component, especially in a combiner. I like the articulation of the NA better especially in the hips than the MS. Something I know you don't really talk about, but the sculpt of the hands looks better on the MS than the NA to me. The NA ones look too Humanoid and not squared off enough? I think the MS would have cleaned up if they had better hardware and materials. Too bad it falls apart...I had to laugh when I heard it fall and then you wacked the camera trying to put him back up....reminded me of Robocop when he blasted ED209 at the end of the movie....good times. I was shocked that XTB vs. FT made a cameo in your comments there after their Articulation.....I look forward to your next apology at the beginning of your next video....lol. As a NewAge collector for almost exclusive I made the choice to go MS for combiners since NA whiffed on their Menasor and I think we can all agree MS nailed it. That said, my copy hasn't fallen apart, no lose joints, and is fun to pose and move. I think a case of YMMV here. I think in the end we all win with options (Emgo) so let's move on and wait for some new figures.

I think you are missing one important comparison between the two. Newage is far more G1 Cartoon accurate in terms of being blockish and solid colors. As close to G1 Cartoon is more what I'm looking for.

@mikebrucewayne I feel the same way. I’m not saying MS Devy looks bad… I just prefer the hyper toon look of the NA Devy (even if he is more slender). That’s the same across the board for both companies. ms bots always looks wide and NA bots always look skinny (by comparison). I believe the MS Devy can be a solid combiner, just like the NA Devy, but you have to transform each bot perfectly to do so, and let’s be honest… the MS Devy transformation isn’t exactly intuitive, so there’s a big opportunity to screw up. I get some love complex transformations and thankfully a Devy for them exists (MS). For those of us who want toon accuracy and a fun, if somewhat simplistic, transformation, NA fits the bill. We all win.

I agree ms molds seems more on the wide and bulky side while na seems more slim and cartoon accurate. I'll be picking up na devastator soon. But at the end of the day having more options is better for us the consumers. More to choose from and the two companies will push each other to produce better products

the magic square was mis transformed causing it to be unbalanced and falls apart, making all the bad comments about it falling apart not valid. my copy can be passed around without getting dismantled. the xtransbots and fanstoys part was really funny, you shouldn’t included it making your review kinda questionable if you knew what you were doing. next time double check well your materials. the scores shouldn’t been tie and no one wins coz both have the pros and cons in a equal manner. the part when your wife chose MS and you keep telling her NA feels better made it look and sound like you are imposing your choice upon her. but I enjoyed this review with a crumpled forehead and saying everytime you score “whuuuut???” but its your toy review so ok

I think peeps need to keep a few things in mind. It's not like you are sitting off the assembly line checking every 10th bot. Is it possible you get a one of the worst QC bots off the line ... sure. Can it give cause for an unfair review ... sure. But ultimately if the QC is that bad, they earned a honest and bad review. I like that people comment if they don't have the same issues, it lets a person know they have a throw of dice if they want one that didn't show so well on the review. BUT I don't think anyone should argue the fact that the review given is incorrect and disagree with it. You can only review what you have. I absolutely LOVE the reviews you do Bobby, even if it's not what I want to hear. Because in the end I know it's one of those things I will regret in hindsight if I'm honest with myself. Don't let those that can't look past themselves get to you and keep the honest reviews flowing!! Another great review btw!!

Magic Squares combined mode is way more stable than that. There are so many pegs that hold it together! Yes it's a very involved transformation, but it's a real solid unit when put together right.

Of course Newage is better built in Devastator mode. They made 2/3 of Devastator one massive partsforming piece. It is basically an entirely separate figure without lower legs. I just wish the Magic Square had the Newage colours.

Even though I don't agree with the scoring on each category the end result is the same but NA wins for a bigger margin. Accessories- NA Gimmicks- MS (they also have a thigh gimmick and have the different pieces for the Studio Ox look) Build- NA Materials- NA Hardware- NA Articulation- Tie (I would give knees to NA) Sculpt- MS Paint- Tie Scale- Tie Alt Mode- Tie (after comparing them all individually in all modes I tied them because both companies did some things better then the other) Presence- Tie Price- MS Accuracy- NA NA-5 MS-3 Thanks for the comparison Mr. Skullface.

Interestingly, TFSource is selling NA for $100 less this weekend. But even with that, I don't feel like I can decide between the two. I like how MS looks but I don't like how dull its finish looks. It feels to me like those erasers for school that came with Transformers' shapes. But if I see NE, I'm not convinced to buy it even with the $100 less. For that size I would prefer to buy the MakeToys (which is pretty small for today's standards) and use it with a Legends display. 🤔😬

To me, Magic Square Transformers just looks better but, NewAge has the way better build and paint. If only they can combine and just let MS design and NewAge build. That's my perfect Legends scale Transformers. With this said, I have way more Magic Square figures as they're generally cheaper and I like the looks better.

Going to post before you can a ton of them, probably deliberate but you say xtbots and fans toys. Which I can see as the perfect comparison, magic square is just like transbots who always hit the aesthetic of a figure but I was feel a lack in confidence in their solidness. Where as new age like fanstoys is a horse you can always bet on but do sometimes miss the mark in some areas but you can almost always guarantee a solid figure

I wish NA had the bulkier build, but everything else I love the NA over MS. It's just so sturdy, and the colors are far better IMO. It's just fun to mess with, and you can take it apart and back together so quickly and easily. It's fun, which for legends scale is huge for me.

I think this is a pretty spot on comparison. I love Magic Square but they definitely need to improve things like ratcheted knees and elbows. The Longhaul to Hook connection is a pain in the ass. It has like 6 or so points to tab in and if you miss one, you are hosed. The first time took me far to long to do, but it is solid once done completely. I feel like Magic Square is trying to compete on XTB and FT levels with engineering. I don't want to see them add die-cast but some better hardware is a must for a combiner. Something else I had a thought on your scoring and wanted to share with you is the accuracy component. I know the main thing is accuracy to the toon. However, I feel the Alt modes in the toon suffer and one of the things that always interested me with Transformers is that when in alt mode, it looks like a normal vehicle/item and you wouldn't know it was a transformer. With all this hyper toon stuff happening, do you feel alt modes are suffering and if so, do you think the lack of realistic altmodes should be measured?

For Accessories, you should give a draw or win for MS. NA does not have Drills plus MS have interchangeable parts for appearance. But NA has cubs plus trumpets in set and for MS you need to pay extra to do this one scene from the movie. But for me, I have both, NA for robots mode and MS for the combine.

I’m with Magic square devastator all the way. He looks beefed up and intimidating like a poster boy for steroid control and the colors are an almost perfect match with the G1 cartoon colors. NA looks like a neon green Kermit the frog hooked on crossfit. Furthermore, MS comes closer to the transformation of the original G1 toy with making the torso by combining a hip piece with long haul and hook. NA just lazily made an entire separate torso.

He pretty much admitted at the start of the vid that he didn't take the time nor have the patience to ensure he transformed MS's correctly. If he had done that it would not have fallen apart. He didn't transform it correctly in the review and didn't correct his errors for this. Although, I doubt it would have affected his scoring all that much. The MS set is very solid when put together correctly. It's just a complex and annoying process to get it there. NA's is much easier to assemble.

Do I think MS looks better yes, but not without it’s problems that you dealt with. I think that for me it is not a strong build from MS. I don't really want to buy either of these sets because I just don't want to reward either of these companies for their shortcomings. I think NewAge and Magic Square both make good products, but it's clear that their pointlessly petty competition (or squabble, perhaps) - and lack of care because of that - has sabotaged two potentially great products.

Not nitpicking anything with your comment because I agree. But I would say it seems NewAge is more on Magic Square's mind than vice versa just from reading the tea leaves. NA seemed to have completely shelved their Menasor because MS was so far ahead of them in production with it and it turned out well. No business sense in trying to get a slice of that pie at that moment so NA moved on to Devastator, which they did tease before MS did the same. Add in NA waiting almost 2 years since MS Optimus 1.0 had released for that market to die down, only for MS to IMMEDIATELY announce Optimus 2.0 and it's clear to me one business is at least partially trying to think about their consumers and the other is hellbent on trying to outcompete the competition. Just my thoughts on this, but I totally agree that the sooner both realize one is not going to drive the other out of business, the better off we'll all be as collectors.
