The problem with reusing some containers for water storage is that the containers are not for water storage and give off chemicals into the water. These are still good for toilets, washing clothes and depending on the chemical that off gas into the water, for gardening. Having working in underground construction in my younger days, I know what happens with water main pipes. Because of that, I recommend that even tab water being put into a new food grade container, have bleach added to it at the beginning of the storage process. Water stored for over a year will need to be aerated because the oxygen/air suspended in the water comes out of it and leaves it tasting flat.

Yes, I agree. I only reuse food grade containers for my water storage, even water for flushing toilets. I rotate it out so it can stay fresh in case I did need to end up drinking it.

Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to do the videos yall do. Its very helpful for new and advanced preppers. I've been prepping for 14 years and most of the time I always get some useful bits of information on something I didn't know.ive learned at lot over the years but I'm still learning more. I've noticed a lot of preppers focus on food. I hope they have a chance to learn other aspects of prepping.

Thank you for all of your advice. I did hear on another channel (pretty sure it was Rosered) that suggested using canning jars to store water. Not just taking a jar or two but the jars just sitting there waiting to be used. They are already there, just sitting empty, takes up the same amount of space whether they are full or empty so why not use the.jars you already have?

Good video, so far for storage, I have elected to go with stacking gallons of distilled water throughout the apartment. My cats need it for health issues, also considering its uses for medical and automotive needs, and that it's unlikely to develop any funkies growing in it over time are pluses for me, plus i can tolerate the taste if need be. Have a 6 mo supply working up to 1 yr. It's relatively cheap compared to buying a huge plastic drum for storage, etc. and can grab lots as i shop for other preps before it gets restricted again. For purification, I have an alexapure water filter for the main household/personal needs, that gets pre filtered by the Brita filter i already had onhand. For me the cost/capacity ratio of the filters was the deciding factor for me, our municipality doesnt fluoridate the water, so the slight difference in performance between it and Berkey for fluoride removal was ok for me. Also have pool shock and that red pen style purifier that uses rock salt from back in my traveling days. Have some 5 gallon buckets to haul water if the taps go out, we have a decent source nearby with minimal street travel, a nice plus. Would like to get some sawyer minis for on the go, however. Always look forward to the next PP video XD

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate... my problem is fitting one of those 160 gallon waterprepared modular tanks into my basement, so I settle for the 55 gallon ones instead. I put them on dollies/furniture movers so they're above ground (and not contacting the floor, helpful for spill elimination) I can clean under them.

Am I correct in thinking if I buy water and pour it into containers made for water storage (because the water is sold in plastic bottles that leach chemicals in the long term right?) I DON'T have to put bleach in the water because it is clean to begin with? I only have to put bleach in water if going in it isn't clean?

What do you do when your bottled water gets old and tastes bad? I have a bunch of bottles that are over a year old. Does boiling the water kill parasites, viruses and bacteria? If we can’t boil water, can this spoiled water be salvaged? I don’t know if I should throw it out. Thank you! Love your channel.

I have a question: what about storing water in clorex bottles, they are heavy plastic? I have used them for water to keep in my car for a quick wash or car radiator but not for drinking.

Wonderful information as always. Few questions: What do you use to prevent algae growth in your larger (outside) containers like the white 275g container yall showed. And if theres a boil water advisory in your town (and you cant boil) what steps would you take to make the water safe? Which filters would you use or would you choose chemicals

I'm so grateful to heavenly father for finding your channel tonight. Did u say that if you store water in glass it has a 55 year shelf life? Is that without any prep. Like tap to glass container and store?

This is great work. Thank you. Question: would I need any special treatment to store water in re-purposed wine or liquor bottles ( ie vodka or gin). I pay attention to the bottle when I choose any juice, wine, liquor etc. Glass first, plastic second. I wonder if it is possible to re-use " box wine" containers as they are dark and keep air out. Anyone know?

I have a question. I put tap water in 2 liter bottles, I bleached out each one before I stored the water. I put the water in my shed and it gets up to 100 degrees in summer and the water froze in winter. I set them out side and thawed them out. I put them back in shed. Is this water still drinkable.
@winterwunderland4 жыл бұрын
We use gallon size distilled water in our coffee maker. I take the empty containers and refill them with tap water and mark the month/year, then store them all around the house. This week I ordered 2 cases of blue can water. We do live beside a small creek, but so do all our neighbors. I have liquid bleach and tablet bleach on hand but God only knows if/when the time comes, would the bleach be out of date? SMH. The cost of the berkely water filter is out of reach unless I put a "hurting" on my credit card. Ouch.

Anyone have an opinion of the Lifestraw Family 1.0 gravity fed filter? I grabbed one as an emergency backup when our village switched to Lake Michigan water, just in case there were any glitches. None surfaced, so I just have it sitting beside my half dozen 5-gallon carboys of clean, treated water. And a bag of calcium hypochlorite, just in case. But for $70, the sales sheet on the Lifestraw Family sounds a little too good to be true, you know?
