A quick newborn baby 101 guide to looking after a newborn. I share how to resolve all the major newborn dilemmas: colic, reflux, gas, eczema, eye infections in newborns, cradle cap and more.
Having a newborn baby can feel overwhelming, especially as a first time mom. I've learned a lot between both my babies and I experienced basically everything under the sun in terms of newborn baby issues. It was a lot on myself as a first time mom and I didn't see much from others about the things I was dealing with. I remember thinking, "Why does my baby cry so much? Is this normal?" It felt really isolating. I don't want anyone to go through that, so I'm here to share what I've learned through my experience in hopes that it can help you through any struggles you may be dealing with as first time parents.

We learned to go outside in for all eye care, so running the cue tip towards the nose only. It is supposed to be better for preventing infections. Thanks for speaking so softly! Did not even wake up our newborn ❤

This is seriously so helpful, my due date is October 10th, 2022 and it's currently the end of May.. I'm half way through my pregnancy now... but I know that it's going to come by in a blink of an eye. I'm excited but also nervous because I feel like at first I'm not going to know what I'm doing. A lot of people told me that mother instincts kick in but part of the nervousness is because I have no idea of what to expect and it's not like they can communicate with you at all. It's also my first, I'm reading as much as I can and trying to learn as much as I can before baby boy arrives so it can put me at better ease. I also do have a great support system and should just probably trust that I am going to do just fine. But I feel like every fist time parent feels like this lol. 2:03 Puzzle-Pieces stuck to Suleiman's face. :P 8:39 Absolutely precious how Suleiman looks at Isaac. He continuously realizes how this new being is his younger brother. I will be sure to come back to these videos when I have children. Isaac's eyes are big and beautiful. I would be afraid to bite or peel off his fingernails but you're quite precise so that is good. I like how thorough you are in these videos. I also like how you challenge the ideas regarding swaddling with education as opposed to opinion.

They’re actually stickers that mama put on him😂 I know ‏سبحان الله I feel as though he really has adapted to having a brother now though. I see it more and more every day. Trust me, peeling is much safer than cutting. Lots of parents accidentally cut their newborns while trimming their tiny nails. They’re VERY fragile in that aspect. I know people will disagree. There’s a group who may even dispute that it’s harmful. But it’s spoken about in depth on the AAP guidelines and it’s totally normal for babies to resist being swaddled. Thank you ☺️

Trust yourself 🤍 you’re going to be amazing. You are everything your baby wants and needs. You’ve got this 🥰 I know it can be so nerve wracking, but the most important lesson I’ve learned (and now I have 3 - 4 and under) is to simply trust myself. I am also due (first week) in may with my first child and it's been over 7 years since I cared for a newborn (helped raise my niece and nephews with my mother) so I did need a quick refresher. You will be fine and it may/will take some time so have patience. You may still get anxious/anxiety and that's okay, a lot of first time mommas get it so you aren't alone. Even though i wasnt a mom, I was still really anxious with my first born nephew when my mother wasnt around because I didnt know much being only 15 when he was born. It does get easier with time, I assure you and you'll know what to do. Just like coolbabymama said, trust yourself and you will gain confidence. I hope all goes well for you and your baby 🙏

that massage at 8:30 is actually the direction of bowel movement of large intestine and what osteopathic doctors are trained to do as non-pharmacological treatment. People can even do it on anyone if they are struggling with bloating, gas, or constipation to help move things along. LOL amazing how it applies to newborn all the way up to elders.

This seems like a wonderful primer, and I needed it. Thank you. And thank you for addressing how weird the term 'colic' is. In common usage it eessentially means "excessive crying" which is a SYMPTOM, but the term colic is used almost as a diagnosis; it's absurd! How do you get to the bottom of a problem if you don't acknowledge how it comes to be? I almost never hear anyone pointing out how strange this is.

For eye sticky infections I also saw on another video to make sure to massage the bridge of their nose between their eyes with clean hands , if there is redness & swelling present it needs the dr.s attention and a prescription eye drops as redness is a sign of inflammation

I would 100% follow up any concern with baby’s doctor. The clogged tear duct can be an infection, as you said and in my experience, my second son had one after age one. He had diagnosed it based on swelling, colour of the discharge and a low grade fever. I’m the type that believes that if ever you have ANY concern, bring it up to their doctor to be sure 🤍

@@Coolbabymama 💯 yes my baby is 3 weeks old today , he woke up w a clog tear duct on Friday morning, his dr could not get him in that day but advised me to use breast milk it cleared up by Sunday night , thank goodness but I have been binging on all videos and have seen some babies have redness and swelling so I was grateful that there was no inflammation 🙏 so I was on an eye infection and clear duct overload this weekend 😅 Your videos are great and Informative thankyou for sharing 🙏

My first baby is 18 days old. I am crippled by anxiety over SIDS. I genuinely don't know how anyone relaxes or can function without a sleep apnea baby monitor (which I don't have and which I desperately wish I did) Everytime I sleep or step away for a moment I wake in a panic terrified and I keep breaking down in the shower. I know it's rare but that's not much comfort to the people who have had it happened.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I had this type of postpartum anxiety with my first. He was born early 35 1/2 weeks (which poses higher risk for it). I had the Owlet monitor and it was the WORST decision I’ve ever made. Mine was faulty. Even after purchasing it at $500 then paying additionally for premie socks, it kept saying “baby is wiggling” and would not read his damm vitals. When it would read them, it would go off multiple times a night saying he had stopped breathing - imagine my absolute panic. It multiplied my postpartum anxiety. I reached out to the company and they would not replace the unit and said “your baby just moves too much” - which newborn isn’t “wiggling”? I ended up speaking with my doctor. I sought out therapy and honestly it worked. I didn’t use anything with my second or third babies. I’m a firm advocate of safe sleep and practicing Back to Sleep. SIDs exists and there are things to help reduce the risk factors of it: always place on back to sleep, offering a pacifier, waking baby for feeds every 3hrs, a well ventilated room (add a fan), nursing your baby, no loose bedding in their bassinet or crib, keeping the room at 21-23C (room temp - so baby doesn’t overheat) and making sure they’re sleep space is empty and firm. I highly recommend speaking to your healthcare provider about your anxiety, because you feel it’s crippling and as someone who’s been there, my heart goes out to you and any other moms who are going through it 🤍

@@Coolbabymama thank you for this. I've also purchased the owlet and am not happy thus far with it. My baby boy was also 35 and a half weeks born and weight dropped to 4lbs 14oz so I've been extra worried ! He's gaining weight though and my all accounts is doing well but your right we can only do what we can do. I think I will say something to my OBGYN at my next appointment. It's nice to know there are people who have gotten through these fears and all their babies are healthy and happy too. Bless you and your family ❤️
