I was born in Newburgh in 1966. Drove taxi for many years and I know every inch of that city. I left in 2005 and moved to Florence K.Y. I've never returned to Newburgh not even once to visit. I've witnessed 2 murders and plenty of street fights, shootings and stabbings. I believe I have ptsd from all the years of living there! I have no desire to ever go back again, not even to visit.

My goodness!! I haven't been up there in ages and I'll be damned, it doesn't look the same, it looks worse. So much promise in those properties and buildings. It could look so much better.

There a bunch of new restaurants on the waterfront. Very bizarre. Up the hill from them is a disaster.

@@melvinhenderson6881 Yup I remember that, I even remember in late 90s early 2000s they had the garbage can on the porch they liked to use. Also on Benkard Ave we'd give a number signal and round the block and they'd hand it off to us on the next ride through. There was also a Jamaican spot I can't remember the street but I beleive it was up town more on outskirts near Center For Recovery and they had a literal store front door that slides open like a damn ice cream stand!! 😆 Those Jamaicans were cool as shit too and would invite us in every other time and smoke a blunt with us. We were white boys from Marlboro but we always got treated well at these spots and it was simple business and even got to know some of these guys pretty well. Nothing but respect both ways back then but doubt its like that anymore. Haven't smoked drank or done any drugs since 2011 so it's been a while.

Everyone who smoked back in the day ( mid 90s to late 2000's from Cold Spring and Beacon copped in the Burg. My favorite weed spot was the Jamaicans on the bottom of South Williams street ( they had solid weed and sold weight). I hated the City Terrace spot with the hole in the door. Small nick bags and shit brick weed.

Newburgh looks just like Waterbury, CT. The hills, mountains way in the background, older buildings… demographic.

I miss newburgh i was born a rasied most of my life there an i had my memories of all the fun and i had as a kid living in the heights .... I mean i lived all over the heights side of newburgh .. my memories is what makes me miss it i left during my senior yr an kinda glad i did god only knows what cracks i would of been stuck in .... Most of the ppl i grew up with either moved to fla or Nc where im at now .... But ive seen an talked alot of ppl that stayed in newburgh an they have had a rough life thwre ... Alot of my friends either not alot alive anymore due to murder or drugs ... I will always call newburgh home and rep it no matter what ... I went fir a visit in 2019 an i felt like i was in a unknown place like i never been there before.... Nothing was what i remembered.. was told to stay out of the heights it wasnt what i thought or remembered it to be like ... I cry all the time thinking abt my memeories an how much fun i had at the rec pool in the summers or playing in the fire hydrants ... I dnt remember all the crime back in the 80s an 90s everything seemed so much simple than but more or less just my memories of it ....

Not fir nothing, feel newburgh has a hidden beauty.. the scenery is beautiful.. offly enough just we as people had the self will. To control ourselves and be more productive in our society, because we r closer than we think or realize or have the consideration to do so , n regards of preservation.. of what we have , what our ancestors went through to maintain and build and so on ..

As bad as the city is I think it still has potential for a comeback. Those beautiful Victorian brick homes are still plentiful and well worth renovation. It took sixty years for it to decline to this point, it won't get cleaned up overnight.

😅😅😅pipedream. Have you noticed the inflation with potato in office? People are much poorer now...especially in slum areas like Newburgh. There's no revenue there either.
