I remember when Middletown was a very busy town back in the 1950's...Once they started to build Malls it killed the town..People were able to shop in doors....My father had a tailor business on Main St...Everyone went to the Malls..My father moved the faimly to NYC..I remember back in the 1970's I took a trip back to Middletown on a Sat..Mains St. was empty..I stopped into Tompkins Dept. store..No one shopping. Store was empty..Again, people went to the Malls..

You should see downtown M-town now. Its a ghost town. Everything is closed. Ever since Walmart went in all the small businesses perished.

I grew up in Middletown, it was just the exact opposite of this video. I had great teachers, great nice schools, great home life. It is sad to see how things have changes so drasticallly. I know when I go back to visit, I see a thriving, clean town.

@@dapa234 Its classified as a small city though. Just because its in the name doesn't make it what it is you know. Greenwich Village is in downtown Manhattan but it isn't a village.

The socioeconomic profile of the population in the community has changed significantly since I went to school in this district in the 60's and 70's. I am encouraged to see the insight and compassion displayed in this video.

My family moved to Middletown in 1989 and it was a very different place back then. The downtown was booming with businesses, Many small chains like Caldor, Bradlees, Grossmans, Rickels, Waldbaums, etc. were flourishing. Orange County fair was always packed it would fill the parking lots at Caldor. Ever since I left for college in 2003, the place turned for the worst. The local chains and small businesses started closing while monstrosity town sucking mega chains like Walmart started closing the small businesses. The worst was the closing of the battery recycling plant near the galleria at Crystal Run. Many of my classmates had parents that worked at that plant and it was a major employer in the area. When that one closed, the rest of the town tanked. I don't live there anymore as I live in the southeast corner of Bergen County NJ now and work in NYC. But my grandfather is still there so I check in with the town once a month. And it saddens me to see it struggle.

Also Middletown was once a 3 rail road town. Middletown suffered much that same as all towns that once had RRs that are no longer there. At least Middletown turned the iconic Erie RR station into a great library Also the old Erie RR right of way that ran though the city's business district has been converted into needed parking lots for down town shopping. BTW most all towns are not the same as they were over 50 years ago.

Nothing is as depressed as Port Jervis and Newburgh. Poverty doesn't limit learning. Being "well off" has nothing to do with having parents who make sure their kids do their homework. I thought Middletown was doing great things with that superintendent. LMAO. Parents need to take responsibility for their kids.

Yes it does,if there are ppl in poverty,they will apply for affordable housing and shelters.Stuff like that are funding by taxes,the Middletown school district dosen't even get 40% of the tax money or funding as other things do. Middletown had to close many schools due to tax cuts and lack of funding.Im literally in 8th Grade Bro.Get ur facts right

It's a shame there are many problems in Middletown, but at least people are trying to fix it up there. In towns not too far away like Monticello and Liberty they have the same problems but since they are smaller they get no attention. It is getting bad there.
@juanzingarello40055 жыл бұрын
Liberty is horrible. I swung by there recently and any worst and the town would look like Pripyat (the ghost town outside the Chernobyl nuclear power plant).
