Adaptive cruise is a really good feature. I drive tractor trailers for a living all the newer trucks have it and in heavy traffic where you can't really pass you just sit back with no worries. My tractor radar tells me the speed of vehicles in front of me before it starts to slow me down and gives me plenty of time to plan a lane change and just go around the slow pokes. I got the 22 RT and as far as I can tell it doesn't tell me the speed of vehicles up ahead which would be really nice. But adaptive cruise is still really good and comes in handy.

I can see how the adaptive cruise could have it's challenges in the U.S. however Canada only has a single lane highway running across the vast majority country. When doing 8-12 hour days on the road on a single lane highway, adaptive cruise would be AMAZING to have until you get the opportunity to overtake the person in front of you. I LOVE this video by the way. More road trip videos please :)

I'm gonna get a white Durango RT with black wheels, but I'm getting AWD as well. For me, it makes no sense getting a pickup truck or SUV in RWD -- but that's just me. This video was a good orientation of the vehicle, because I've seen all the features in action.

At 18:30, he mentions how powerfully the lane assist feature steers the Durango. The strength is configurable in the uConnect settings for the vehicle. You can choose from three levels of "tugginess". That said... the Durango's "lane assist" feature is not particularly well-implemented. I've got the R/T and I have zero regrets. I love it. Driving is so much fun. And it's sure-footed in all weather, even with all-season tires. But the "lane assist" feature is (arguably) the weakest feature. It only works on straight sections of road. If the highway gently curves and you're nodding off at the wheel, the Durango will not save you. It will cross the lane divider and possibly even go off the road if you don't wake up when you feel the steering wheel tugging. To summarize: If the road is straight, "lane assist" will keep you in the lane. But even gently curves are too much for "lane assist". This is not a self-driving vehicle. The "lane assist" feature is really that life saver when you're super tired, but driving anyway and you have one of those five-second doze-offs. Well, the steering wheel tug will probably wake you up, but you'll still have to steer yourself back into place.

I have the same vehicle, same color w brass monkey wheels. Mine is 7 passenger,AWD with red interior. I agree with everything you said. I have had my RT for 4 months. For $48K, it is awesome. IMO it is the Charger RT of SUVs. Had it on mountain roads in PA, with the paddle shifters and RT drivetrain and suspension it is a blast to drive the twisty and windys. Now it may not be as nimble in it's handling, going into the corners,etc, as my Charger RT, but for a 5200 lb truck it does very well. Love the Adaptive Cruise Control and all the technology.Highway cruising is it's strong point, too.

Love the Review. I have the 17 R/T with all the options except adaptive CC and Lane Assist. I gave 6 Dodge dealerships my $41K price tag I was willing to pay but I had to have Chrome or Brushed aluminum wheels......I'm not a fan of the Black Wheels craze. Mine came with an upgraded Pearl White paint, the Sunroof, 2nd row Captain's chairs and console (which was another option I demanded), tow package, etc. I had 3 dealers tell me I would NEVER get it for that price. I said....."then I guess I won't get one." A few weeks later Autonation in North Fort Worth called me and said we have your car. They did! Fabulous vehicle! I also have a 2009 Challenger R/T with basically the same engine.

Pleasantly surprised you drive considerably. You use the left lane for passing only. Here in California people get on the freeway at 30mph and get in the left lane immediately. Good job on your driving!

My husband bought me this truck instead of the van I wanted for all our kids and I'm excited I love it so much. I've been from Chicago to Wisconsin three times this summer. I love sports mode I did 120 almost the whole ride. The lane assist does get on your nerves especially if you're trying to change lanes fast without the turn signal it will push you back in the lane. Absolutely love this truck. Only issues I have was the headlight and turn signal goes on and off and the hatch opened up twice, other than that no problems. Thanks for the review.

(Hatch opening unexpectedly) One of your key fob buttons might be sticking. Leave one fob closer to the veichicle for a few hours & then switch em out and see if u discover any issues. Or drive with both (or all your fobs) in the veichicle, if it continues to happen, eliminate one fob at a time to pinpoint the one with the issue. (This happened to me many times. Twice in the middle of the night before I figured out the issue) I would come out to my hatch wide open in the morning. I had a dodge van & loved it. But I got Durango now & lust it. 😎 Good choice.

I have a durango myself. One complaint that I have is that you get the fuel level low light when the remaining fuel volume gets down to 2 gallons (as per user manual). This thing has almost a 25 gallon tank. You would think the reserve would be much larger, especially for this gas guzzler. But instead, you practically need to scramble for gas the minute you get the warning. Also, I replaced all interior incandescent light bulbs with led bulbs the 2nd day after I got the car. The stock interior lighting is a joke for sure. Except for backup bulbs, all exterior lighting is LED out of the factory. What were they thinking???

FYI. The Most ticketed drivers are Dodge Charger drivers. People think they are police too and get out of the way leaving an open road ahead for speeding and Laser radar police! Go ahead but be mindful of this. Love your road trips! The diesel mpg trips were my favorites!

What do you think about the cabin being so dark? Was it an issue or did the moonroof help with interior lighting? Personally I think the Coors Durango has for interpersonal is lacking. Picking light brown but then you can't get the black top or the brass monkey for some reason...

Great video, when the fuel gauge stop giving mileage estimates you usually have 2-3 gallons remaining in the tank. We usually reset our trip B counter to 0 to estimate how much is left. That being said, it's really not good to let it get down that low.

The Durango R/T is definitely a beautiful and fun SUV to drive but It's still pricey for what you get. The Ford F-150 Supercrew 4X4 5.0 L V-8 gives you much more functionality for less money, it rides like a Limo and has as much interior space as one. It handles great a gives great fuel economy for a vehicle its size and hauling & towing capability.

Handling and ride aren't mutually exclusive Matt, have you ever driven a new F-150? I never said they handle like a sports car. Every vehicle on the road is compromise of all things vehicular, but considering the cost of new vehicles, I believe the F-150 is actually the best all purpose vehicle for the money. Look at the options you get with an F-150 and compare them with any full size SUV or luxury car and you'll see the F-150 does it as good or better for a lot less money. Let's face it, how many people can afford a new Corvette or any of the overpriced sports cars, and have money left over for utilitarian purposes?

Yes. But only if the brakes are used. Sometimes the vehicle can simply coast to a slower speed, as braking isn't necessary.
