A brilliantly put together film for its time. Well done - remember the airport well when it was like that.

Used to cycle up as a kid, chain bikes up to the railings outside then go and watch the planes from the roof of building, happy days! 😁🛫

When filming in an airport wasn't deemed as a security issue.. I remember the roof terrace then when my grandmother took us kids to see Princess Anne arrive. I was 7 and she bought me a little toy car from the gift shop.

Several years ago i was on leave from work and travelling home to Fawdon on the Metro. Tbh, i wasn't feeling in a particularly joyous mood as my day had got off to a less than savoury start. On the spur of the moment, i decided to stay on the train and ride the line until the end to take a look at Newcastle Airport. I was pleasantly surprised at how much the property had changed since the last time i visited NA was on a school trip when i was a kid back in the early '80s. I sat down for a little while and watched various people go back and forth in the course of their business. Some of them were arriving and others were leaving. Some were waiting to welcome incoming individuals and others were preparing to witness the departure of those loved ones outgoing. Considering how much i generally despise the modern world, how much i miss the '80s and how down i was at the time, i just felt like dropping everything, boarding the next available plane and leaving all my troubles behind me. For only a short while, I just felt like escaping somewhere. Anywhere.

I used to love going upstairs to watch the planes taking off. Shame you cannot do that now as it was a canny day out for the kids.

Only been twice. Second time was when I was with my mum and uncle to take my late Dutch Granddad home to Holland when he used to fly KLM before he took the DFDS Ferry from North Shields. First time tho was around 1984/1985 when I went with the Junior School on a field trip. We had to answer a questionnaire where all the answers were around us in the airport. I think a NatWest bank used to be there. I had to draw the logo. We got to see where they put the emergency vehicles. Brilliant day. Never though got to fly where. This won't happen till next week on July 30. It has taken 43 years for me to have my first plane ride.

It's a shame that the roof terrace has gone

Remember it well from those days - back when you could drop passengers off at the front of the doors to the terminal building at zero cross. How things have changed.

Enjoyed watching that, thanks.

Wow, the airport looks totally different now

This was literally last century. Would be odd if it looked the same.

When I was a kid my Dad used to torture me and take me to see the planes at the airport in the 1970s, then take me on holiday to Scotland in a caravan.🤣🤣

I must admit whenever I visit NA and see passengers lining up in the Departures area, I can't help thinking to myself "God, I wish I was going with you.".😉
