Today, Silver Voices, a campaign group on behalf of older people, published a brief report about a woman who didn't want a zoom/phone call from the GP but a face-to-face appointment (per current gvt guidance). She was told, in what she felt was a sinister way, that her refusal would 'go on her records'. This is not just NHS bossiness, it's bullying. How do we deal with this?
@RedroomStudios
@RedroomStudios 3 жыл бұрын
stop participating in the health system for one. why are we so insistent on subverting the will of nature and assume it to be a right? having said that, I do back your point completely. this is the model they want for the future - telehealth it is called. all so people dont create greenhouse gas emissions travelling to see a doctor.
@iggle6448
@iggle6448 3 жыл бұрын
@@RedroomStudios I had to think a bit about your response. It could sound like you have a philosophical or religious basis for your stance against 'subverting the will of nature'. Isn't this a Jehovah's Witness' type of argument against health care? I support the right to chose such a stance, though there are very robust arguments about the nature of living things to autonomically strive for good health and, indeed, just about every creature is ordinarily well equipped to fight off physical injuries and to heal. Would it be complying with the will of nature to leave a stabbing victim to die in the street because it's just nature that some random psychopath stabbed him?! I think there are gradations of what's 'natural' and what aren't. Given that we do have statutory rights to healthcare I don't see any reason to completely eschew the health system. However, it desperately needs to deliver human-centred, patient-centred care - and I do mean _care_ . This appalling bullying that is rife in the NHS has to stop - it's the last thing a poorly patient needs and cannot possibly help them to maintain decent health, nor does it engender or maintain trust in health care providers. The NHS is NOT a Victorian charity, dispensing largesse or not depending on its own arbitrary judgements of the character and intent of those who seek its aid. About time it brought itself into the 21st century and started courteously offering its paying customers Waitrose quality service. Although I dislike the idea of a wholly private healthcare system, at this rate it's going to happen as more and more people are disgusted by the NHS's high-handed approach.

The casting problems in theatre, films an TV, are routed in the idea that plays exist to further actors career, that they have a right to play the full range of roles. We saw the young black actress cast as Anne Bolynn tell us, she had a right to tell this story. But they are wrong, actors serve the play, and the play is for its audience. Anything in the casting that is distracting is bad casting, it gets in the way of the story.

On the subject touched upon in 4:12-6:21. It reminded me of that wonderful American singer Sierra Boggess who withdrew from singing the part of Maria (West Side Story) at the Proms. Why? Because the 'Woke' brigade raised objections on the grounds that the fact she wasn't Latin American made her casting 'inauthentic'. Of course, this immediately negs the question about black actors playing (say) any of the kings in Shakespeare's history plays. As we know those kings had white skins. However, it would be a serious injustice to disallow talented black Shakespearian actors to play those parts on the grounds of 'inauthenticity'. Historical accuracy must take second place to an actor who can convey the drama from the descriptive power and eloquence of the Shakespearian text. But you can see where the logic of this 'Wokeish' demands ends up; discrimination!
@robwilde855

Quite true. Petty ordering about by silly little people is so annoying. "Remember to take your luggage when you leave the train." Repeated ad nauseam all through our lives! And the announcements that start: "For your health and security...no smoking is allowed on the platforms." What has OUR health and security got to do with THEM? Who the hell do they think they are? The implied arrogance is enormous, yet invisible to them. What gets me most is the sheer stupidity. Pointless signs seem to have proliferated over the last ten years or so. By the side of the River Wensum in Norwich is a sign: 'Danger - unfenced river'. Intended for whom? Someone whose eyes are good enough to read the words but not good enough to see the bloody river?

IMO - this current state of blurring the lines of personal boundaries is indicative of a lack of individual limitations in general. I wanted to watch Mary Queen of Scots, cause the acting by the main cast seemed really compelling in some clips. Then.. I saw some strange casting decisions... I couldn't take it seriously. I mean... Bess of Hardwick as this young Asian woman.. like.. err... I'm Asian myself but it's really strange to portray historical characters like that. And worst of all, maybe cause I'm a nerd, they were living in Hardwick Hall, the last home built by Bess when she was in her 70s. It's so odd.. I don't know what the purpose was... There's no right or wrong on the stage, just what works and what doesn't. It didn't work for me. Cause Bess of Hardwick is one of the most intriguing historical figures from that era for me. But one has to take my opinion with a pinch of salt cause I'm a bit of a history nerd so I really like historical accuracy. Shakespeare having mixed casting is perfectly fine for me cause it's fiction and his themes are truly universal. I once watched a female Hamlet... very strange experience... didn't work for me at all. but it's still okay I guess.. cause it's experimental and theatre is all about exploring.

I don't give a toss about theatre - if you had asked me 10 years ago I would have cared. But it is now all so "woke" I just don't care anymore. Regarding the social credit system in China - already millions of people have been punished for misdemeanors, such punishments including things like travel bans i.e. can't go out of your province, and the like...

I gave up telly and theatres years ago., as a protest against wokeness and the pushing of immigrants into our faces. I love Shakespeare and used to go to all the plays at Stratford and the Barbican. I drew the line at black actors playing Hamlet . Its arrant nonsense . And i think we are hurting the careers of our own people to kowtow to these blacks, which is just not fair. I am sick and tired of us Brits giving way to people who really shouldn’t be here, and who are just damaging the social and cultural fabric of Great Britain.

Very true comment about the Brits thinking they were superior because they would never accept dictatorship. The writing was on the wall years ago: they accepted licensing laws without a squeek, they accepted the smoking ban, they accepted the abolition of their eccentric but perfectly efficient currency. It was an illusion to think brits were sopecially fredom loving. TMajorities everywhere are subservient and afraid of freedom, whatever their nationality. Equally there are brave folk everywhere who resist and the independently minded who refuse to howl with the wolves.

One has to stand up to craven conformity really despite the threat of losing a job, for example. I was told in no uncertain terms that my contract was not to be renewed because I was 'difficult' and it came down to the fact that I had opinions. So, in a way, the Chinese 'social credit' system has already arrived.
