Dude, you have such a Mexican garden! You gotta make salsa! I can’t wait for my tomatillo plant to grow. Tomatillos should be roasted as well as jalapeños and then mixed in a blender with salt garlic, a bit of water and cilantro and u have some salsa 😆

I don't know anything about tomatillos, so that was fun exploring one with you. Thanks for the information.

Thank you. I had them all over the yard this year when I moved soil around. They do grow like weeds.

I learned last year that the best spiciest jalapeños are the ones that look like they have a dry cracked looking skin. It definitely was true when I had a taste of my sister in-laws salsa Verde. She's Mexican so I'll take her word for it. Now I have 6 plants in my garden. Definitely looking forward to this years harvest. I have 6 tomatillo plants too

Yes, sun and warmth is the answer :-) My peppers just sit and sit until sometime in July....then boom! they finally begin to take off. Jalapeños can be used when green, but they will ripen to red like most other peppers. The yellow pepper that you showed us could be a variety of Wax pepper, but looks more like a Bell pepper to me. The Tomatillos are ripe when the outer husk splits and dries. You could have left yours just a little longer. The taste is tangy, tart, faintly tomato-like

You already have two ingredients for the green salsa! You are missing onion, garlic salt and cilantro! And there's your delicious salsa ( put everything in the blender at the same time )

I think I started them inside around April. I had them on heat mats too.

you need to wait for the paper covering to brown a little and go brittle, then you know its ready :)

You can use them to make fried green tomatoes as well. Very tasty fruit. I haven't had no luck getting them to grow into fruit here in Baltimore MD.

Great garden!! I have two questions for you. I have seen several videos of folks growing peppers with those particular flowers growing among them? Also, what are the dimensions of you planting bed and what is it made of? Thanks

How many tomatillo plants would you recommend planting in a 4x8 bed? How far apart do you have your tomatillo plants? I'm looking for seed and or starter plants for my raised bed garden. Thanks!

They get very large and two to three can completely cover a 4X8 bed. I think they are considered weeds in Mexico. You need at least a couple plants to get a good yield.

Tomatillo will usually outgrow their shell/lantern and split it, that's when I pick mine. Unless it's late in the season in which case I pick anything that is bigger than a marble and free em.

Did you make salsa with the tomatillos? I am trying to grow them this year.

Unfortunately I haven't put them to use yet. Last year they did not have enough time to ripen. I think it was because of that late frost we had in the spring.

You can make salsa de tomatillo and jalapenos together. same number or tomatillo to jalapeno. Boiled them together but dont get the tomatillo too long since they can over cook easily. Blender together with garlic, salt and cumin and you will get the tastier salsa ever.

You know there ready when they open up like the one you picked the bottom was open on it. Don't let them turn yellow there to old then. Tomatillo are use for green chill sauce and other Mexican dishes there a big thing here in USA. There very good roasted and stuffed.

The more you neglect jalapeños the hotter they are, apparently. Mine are pretty hot, but I don't really water them.
