It's a korean channel (I think) but I found someone who managed to produce some super tame and docile tokays that look amazing. I think that person breeds them though. Can't rememeber the channel name but I'm sure you could find it by serching fot tame tokays.

So it may not take as long for her to adjust to handling, but she doesn't even want to come out of her cork tunnel to tong feed. She only jack in the boxes her head, then right back in. I've been bit by a tokay before, and it definitely sucks ass. I just need to bite the bullet and start the process. I would love for her to chill with me while I'm watching NERD on KZbin. 😊

I've had her since she was a baby but she got parasites when she was young and I had to force give her medicine. Understandably that broke any trust she had in me. This was just with me being passive with her after the medicine stopped. All of a sudden about two weeks ago she was "pawing" at me through the glass and when I opened it she jumped right on my arm. I can't remember the last time I was that excited lol. Now I'm working with her and I just got tongue flicks from her last night and tonight. Again, I was so excited. My girl doesn't give tongue flicks easily. I've only seen her tongue flick a few times in the years I've had her. She is so rewarding ❤

Seeing Kevin have an imperfect taming moment makes me feel a little bit better about when I have the occasional " oh my gosh I am definitely not making the gains I was going for and I'm going to need to modify the tactics here " moment. Even the best animal tamers and trainers in the world have days like this and individual animals that just don't respond in the way that they were initially expecting. The key is they keep working at it and adapting and adjusting based on what they learn from the individual interactions. There's absolutely nothing like trying to show taming to another human being or filming taming to ensure that something just doesn't go the way that you meant it to. Whether it's from the environment that you're working in being inappropriate, or simply having to split your attention. You see here that Kevin switched from gentle taming to restraint taming. That's sort of a last resort, but when you're dealing with an animal that's gone into extreme panic, restraining them in a very gentle manner and allowing them to eventually realize that even though they are extremely vulnerable right now that they are not actually being harmed is an effective technique when you are dealing with super high volatility animals or when you've had a mishap and accidentally triggered a potentially negative experience. Nobody ever wants to be having to switch to this mode, but it's an important tool to keep in the toolbox when taming.

I had the most incredible interaction with some tokays at the Canadian Breeders Expo in Toronto in Sept. Rachel from The Reptile Shop has the tamest tokays I've ever seen. I could pick them up and handle them as if they were cresties. Her approach is to keep them communally in family groups. That social setting seems to keep the defensive behaviour way down.

I actually found this to be the case too. When I seperated my 3 into individual enclosures as they grew they became way more defensive. I put them back in a communal enclosure and they are much more relaxed when I come into their space and open to interaction. They are such amazing geckos.

Awesome to see! Tokays have always been my favorite gecko. This makes me wanna get another one to try and socialize. The tokay I use to have was named Satan. He would leave anyone who went in his cage leaking blood everywhere. My buddy tried to pick him up with welding gloves one time and he bruised his finger through the leather glove from a bite. He was definitely a special lizard.

Hi Kevin. Can you do a video on peach throat monitors. I bought a juvenile and am aware of cage requirements and husbandry and did all the research before purchasing her, i bought her from a pet store that was keeping her in 2 small of an enclosure and when i saw her her colors were washed out. Im glad to report with correct feeding and lighting she has color again and gaining some weight. She is still settling in and jumpy but has never tried to bite.

I suggest duct taping your thumbs to the palms of your hands the next time you handle this tokay👍😅👍. I love socialization and handling videos. They are an excellent resource for the correct way to interact with animals. Patience, patience, patience. In the end, this tokay finally chilled some and you put him back on a positive note. That is very important for people to know. This defensive tokay may have kicked your butt...actually, your thumb... but you gained the first step to a budding trust which is priceless. Not me and my tokay watching this together-we’ve got a through-the-glass relationship. I got her at a month old (nearly lost her the first day when she bolted) and so having her now where she doesn’t run and hide, even if I open the enclosure, is big. As we stand, she’ll eat from my hand, but I wonder how she’d respond to this. I’ve had her out before where she’d sit on my leg in a tokay proofed space without mouth gaping, but again I wonder if this could take it further?

What a beautiful Geiko…feisty little devil. When I was very around 4, we lived in Hondo, Tx. There were so many horned toads..actually lizards…beautifully patterned guys covered with spines. One day I was sitting on a fence watching a very big one hanging out just below me. Suddenly he grabbed onto my big toe…I think he thought it was a grub. It didn’t hurt but scared me. My Dad tried to get him off, but he hung on for dear life. Had to sit and wait until the fellow decided I wasn’t food after all. I loved those guys so much…there was one that would come out to find me when I came outside. S/he liked head rubs. Little kid fingers can do that…I can testify the spines and sharp. Sadly, they are now endangered. The San Antonio Zoo has a breeding program to reintroduce them to the wild.

Tokek Tokek has the most amazing tokay socializing videos on the platform. It you want to tame down your tokay, check him out. It'll blow your mind. He makes tokays look like any other reptile pretty much. The Reptile Whisperer, a very old channel, is a lady who has tokays that even her daughter can handle and chill out with. One technique Tokek uses is to take a folded up napkin or paper towel, folded to give it some thickness, and allow it gecko to bite it, sort of satiating the geckos desire to bite, in order to make it feel more secure, having exercised it's defensive tendencies to a substantial degree. Kevin seems a bit out of his wheelhouse here with the tokays lol. His strategy seems to be to give the tokay Stockholm syndrome 😂

i know mine will readily jump from locations 6 feet high to the floor to get where he wants to go. But I am here learning how to not get messed up. I took in a CB tokay from a house that actively had cats opening the door to his cage and him hiding from them. He has the worst lockjaw I have ever dealt with. He held onto my hand for 4 hours one time...and it seems the solution is to just let it happen and show you arent going to hurt it...

But it's clear that it actually paid off -- it took quite a while of tiring the gecko out, but once he was no longer able to flee or fight, he had no choice but to sit there and think instead. With some animals, especially wild caught animals with traumatic experiences, sometimes that's the only way you can do it. Scared animals would rather react now and think later than risk getting eaten, so sometimes you gotta wait for them to get tired of reacting to get them to actually engage with you.

Love Tokays. My Leopard Geckos do that same tongue lick when they are making sure you are you it seems, or are something familiar. Gecko bites are no joke pain wise tho! Haha that was super funny, thanks for more awesome info guys!

What a absolute beautiful animal. I love tokay geckos and hope to own one someday. Your videos have helped me "rethread" the trust with my beardie. I took her out in my yard in her harness for the first time & she pretty much told me to eff off and unalive myself. I have been following your methods and things are better now than before.
