My ao smith lasted a year exactly heat pump compressor died ao smith customer service dont care they only cover parts for 12 years to get a tech out and repair it will cost more then the unit

@@doug2202 i actually got a replacment from ao smith and mine works great in winter since its a hybrid if it needs the electric element it will kick on but my electric bill is about same since changing over from oil

Honestly haven't even checked. I put that filter piece on it for now to help keep it clean with all the construction dust.

Can you get a db reading like from your phone with heat pump running and off? It sounds super quiet

I don't really know how I would do that. It's definitely the loudest thing in my house but I don't think it's very bothering.

I've measured a HPTS in the field and it was 45 dB from 1m away.

@CyrusPenrod yes i measured this new one and it is 45 dB. These new models with the intake and exhaust both on top and the ability to do the water connections on top are the HPTS models.

This second gen ao smith doesn't need any additional pieces to duct it which I will be doing in the future. I think the rheem duct kit is almost 300

If it's in heat pump mode the element won't turn on

I thought so too but the element light comes on and tech support says it comes on I have not checked it yet with a meter but the light is definitely on!!!

Choose electric press and hold enter/mode with temp down for 3 seconds 0 will pop up change it to 8 then a 1 will pop up change it to zero ur all set

This unit is total garbage. I had new one replaces already under warranty and the new one still sucks and cant deliver more than 20 min of hot water- even with a mixer in place and a 80 gallon unit. I challenge anyone to tell me that it's better than a traditional gas HW tank. It gives less hot water and isn't less expensive. We have all been had by rebates and BS incentives to go away from traditional gas that works better... period
