People says that this movie is bad, I mean obviously its not as good as the first two, but I wouldn't say it's bad. maybe I'm too bias because I love fantasy theme so much that I always find joy in them no matter what people said.

@Lzy G Yeah I have to say when I read the books there was so many islands and they felt really disjointed. I feel like the movie connected them really well. And I feel like the book had lots of messages it was trying to put out which can be hard for a movie to translate, plus the books messages didn’t always link they would just randomly throw them in there at certain points. Which is easier to do in a book. So I feel like movie did a really good job of connecting them without making it feel too overwhelming or out of place.

In the book, Aslan physically scratches off Eustace's dragon skin and throws him in a pool of water and he's physically restored. Then Aslan dresses him in new clothes. He becomes a changed person but would have relapses till they became unnoticeable. This was a metaphor for baptism through fire (accepting Christ and letting him change you) and water (physical baptism).

I wish they would've continued the series and followed the books. Eustace becomes a hero in later stories when he comes back to Narnia. Edit: funny you should mention Aslan and God because that's exactly right. Well God/Jesus. C.S. Lewis, the author used to be an atheist and found religion later in life. When the book series finishes the symbolism is even greater. He was also roommates with Tolkien, the author of Lord of the Ringsm

So, in chronological rather than publication order: Book One: The Magicians Nephew. The creation of Narnia and the awakening of Jadis, who becomes the White Witch. Professor Diggory from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, with his friend, wake Jadis and brought her to the very beginning of Nania. Book Two: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Book Three: The Horse and his Boy. Has to do with a boy going to Narnia with, surprise, his horse. The closest it comes to the Pevensies is him spotting Susan once when she was Queen. No one likes this one. Book Four: Prince Caspian. Book Five: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Book Six: The Silver Chair. The best of them. The one I waited SIX YEARS for. And then one they announced three times, then cancelled each time. In it, Eustace and a girl named Jill are transported to Narnia, and find Prince Caspian as an old man, and they go to find his missing son. To guide them is a Marsh-Wiggle named Puddleglum who is the saddest, smartest, best character in the series. They find and rescue Prince Rilian from the Green Lady, who is another form of Jadis. Book Seven: The Last Battle. The death of Narnia, first to violence against itself (RIP dwafs), then to what is essentially an apocalypse, but the descending of all of them to Aslan's Country/Heaven. Also the death of Lucy, Peter, and Edmund, who went to Narnia together, and their bodies died in a train crash, leaving Susan alone. You know, for kids.

Everyone who doesn't have a darn clue how to wrote a book or a movie are whining in these comments because this movie was adapted to make narrative sense. It would have been much worse if the islands were the crazy Alice in Wonderland esque disjointed plots as in the book. I loved the book, but as a book. The movie needed a conflict and everything in it needed a purpose and actually it is an incredible example of reintepreting the book to keep all the adventures ehile offering coherency. Shame on everyone who judges it because it doesn't follow the book precisely. Every change was an improvement, from Aslan scratching the sand to remove Eustace's dragon skin to the lords' identifying arm bands being made into swords that raise the stakes.

If you watch the BBC adaption you can see The Silver Chair, the sequel to TVOTDT. Their cousin Eustace and his friend Jill Pole returns to Narnia to help look for Caspian‘s lost son Rillian. The villain is known as the Lady of the Green Kirtle, an evil witch who is possibly a successor to the White Witch who plots to take over Narnia. Although CS Lewis never acknowledges this to be true, fans have often debated whether or not the Green Witch was actually the White Witch reincarnated. But this made be due to the fact that the actress who played the White Witch in the BBC adaption played the Green Witch in the BBC adaption as well. In the commentary of this movie it is explained that it is the Green Witch who is responsible for the magic of Dark Island.

It's not that it's total crap, it just deviated from the book too much (no major villains, episodic adventures with one overarching arc of searching for the lost lords and seeing Aslan's Country at the edge of the world, how it was about depending on God and not much about self esteem, etc.) and somehow felt like trying to copy the first film's aesthetic for its success and somehow lowered the age audience from 9 upwards to 6 upwards. Here's a summary of the succeeding stories: (SPOILERS FOR EVERYONE WHO HASN'T READ THE BOOKS) The Silver Chair - Eustace and his classmate Jill escape bullies in their school to Narnia, where Aslan tells them that they have to rescue Caspian's long lost son Prince Rillian from the Norther Wastelands and beyond before Caspian dies of old age or a mysterious enemy invades. The Horse and His Boy - takes place during the reign of the Pevensies and miles south to the enemy country of Calormen, a peasant boy named Shasta, a Calormene noblewoman called Aravis, and their talking horses Bree and Hwin, escape their difficult lives for a free and blissful life in Narnia, only to find themselves caught in a war between two countries. The Magician's Nephew - Young neighbors Digory and Polly explore the tunnels that connect their houses, but then find themselves in the clutches of Digory's wicked Uncle Andrew who tricks them with magic rings to drift from this world to others. First they went to a dead world called Charn, which the Witch Empress Jadis herself destroyed, then to a new world being sung to existence called Narnia by Aslan. The Last Battle - King Tirian, 8th descendant of Caspian, discovers a false Aslan is in Narnia and began making changes, including destroying the talking trees and consulting with evil Calormenes. With the help of Eustace, Jill and a small band of Narnians still loyal to the true Aslan, they attempt to fight for Narnia one last time.

Well I think all the deviations feom the book made sense. C.S. Lewos wrote at a time when The Hero's Journey had not been a well developed concept yet. I lobed this book but it was convoluted and disjointed. All the changes made them one and made the marratively consistent.
@ElykRindon07
@ElykRindon07 2 жыл бұрын
@@frenchbreadstupidity7054 what's slightly inconsistent for me is the character development of the MC's. Lucy wanting to be beautiful like her sister, but she must just be herself, but later uses her sister's weapon to fight the serpent, Edmund being a fully developed character by PC still traumatized by the Witch, Caspian being insecure if he's a worthy king when he already established peace in Narnia in just three years, how they start to care less about the lords and more on the swords, etc.
@marshalljarnagin9370
@marshalljarnagin9370 2 жыл бұрын
@@frenchbreadstupidity7054 Maybe so, but C.S. Lewis had clear ideas as to how each character matured. Lucy, Edmund, and Eustace were all on different points in different journeys. Perhaps it is disjointed to those unused to large numbers of characters in a book, but I don't think Lewis intended for them to all be together in a team, but rather coming in and falling out of each other's lives, just like in the real world. For me, the deviations from the book didn't make it cohesive, but rather made another Hollywood remake of a safe storyline, and took away some of the personal touches that are felt in the book.
@karisgranger6013
@karisgranger6013 2 жыл бұрын
@@ElykRindon07 For me, I like the aspect of the characters still struggling with some of the things they did before. They are a lot more mature, but I think it reflects how in life often overcoming our struggles is a process, and our problems don't always just go away. Sometimes old lies can crop up and try to trick us. But in the end we have the power to overcome them. But I do see your point too. When I saw the white witch again, I'm like "seriously girl? Go away already. You're irrelevant now." I think it reflects in real life how it can be hard to let go of the guilt of our past. As a Christian I believe Satan keeps trying to remind us of it, but Jesus says we're forgiven and we don't have to keep living in that place. That's why Edmund is haunted by her sometimes, because he's reminded of what he did in his past. The good thing is that she disappeared and I think that symbolizes him reminding himself of the truth.

I mean, the movie didn't follow the book at all, and ofc the change of director made a difference, but the movie is good AND enjoyable which is like the most important thing for a movie of a magic world.

This one is least like the book it's based on and probably the weakest of the movies. They mist is literally one of many adventures, as is the sea serpent. They combined a bunch into one antagonistic force for the film and It took away from the sense of adventure and facing the unknown. And there's literally no importance to the 7 missing lord's swords in the book it's a movie addition that was completely unnecessary as the entire point of the voyage was to find the missing lords themselves.

But as far as relatively low budget remakes by a different studio is concerned it is quite a good movie. Agreed it is the worst but is still a good film that one watch alongside the others without feeling the same way on does when watching the first two ghostbuster then the 2016 reboot. I enjoy it and consider a good film even though it isn't the best of the three and to be far to the directors the original's episodic nature is hard to translate into a singular film, so drawing to draw a more traditional storyline with an overarching villain is understandable.

Found your channel through your Harry Potter reactions. Cool to see your reaction to the Narnia films too. I don't suppose you've seen The Golden Compass, based of the His Dark Materials trilogy of books. I like the film, but I know many don't because it took out the last quarter of the first book.

The original plan was to do the whole Narnia series (6 or 7 books i think), but it lost steam with this one. I watched it once and haven't really cared to see it again.

The 1st time I read this series I did not like this book. The second time around I actually loved it. Maybe because it was so different from the first two, I had trouble getting into it. The whole series is absolutely fantastic.

the next one is called "the silver chair" where eustace does indeed go back to narnia along with his school friend where aslan sends them on a quest to find caspian's son, whom was captured. sadly, because "the voyage of the dawn treader" didn't make enough money, we never got to see that made into a film

I hate that they stopped at this movie instead of finishing the series. The old BBC ones stopped at The Silver Chair (which is the next one in the series). Maybe they can do a reboot that stays true to the books? As long as they don't go changing stuff. Sadly, that's exactly what they'd do. Change a bunch of stuff & not keeping to the books 🙁

Of all the films, this was the one least faithful to the book, which is a pity. Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my father's favorite of the Chronicles of Narnia books. The opening line of the book is, "There once was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it." Of the seven books, the 4 that have been adapted to film/tv serials are The Lion, Witch, & Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and The Silver Chair. They've been in production of The Silver Chair for a while, but with Netflix working on something, who knows what the future lies. The BBC made a series of Narnia serials, which I grew up with in addition to Disney. I highly recommend them.

I think that Netflix will be doing a tv series on Narnia? dont know if that's taken off or not though... i think the main reason this one wasn't liked so much was because it was changed quite a bit from the book, as far as i can remember... as far as i recall, caspian actually never loved susan, he was supposed to be a young boy in prince caspian... and the whole dark mist and absorbing people into it was never in the book. neither was Jadis (the white witch) the story was mainly caspian trying to find the lords who were loyal to his dad, not about defeating some evil. the book was all about the battles within oneself. Eustace was only a dragon for that one island in the book. they left out islands (which in some ways i can understand for a movie...) BUT in saying that, the movie is ok. but i dont think they had to bring the white witch back in every movie as I understand she's only in the magicians nephew and the lion the witch and the wardrobe.

The real reason the other movies didn't get created was because the studio allowed the licenses to the books expire and never renewed them until recently.
@JRRLewis
@JRRLewis 8 ай бұрын
Actually it wasn't the studio's decision not to renew the rights to the books. The C.S. Lewis estate refused to allow them to continue to have the rights. Rumor was that the studio wanted to do The Magician's Nephew next to tie in with the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and to use Tilda Swinton in a big part, but the estate thought that made no sense and wanted The Silver Chair, the next story chronologically made with Eustace and Old Caspian carrying the story on from Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Now Netflix is rebooting the series with Greta Gerwig at the helm.

If you want the rest of the stories in as close to a film as possible get the full dramatized book series by focus on the family. It has all the sound effects, full cast voice acting, and doesnt have all the "...he said, as they walked down the road" stuff between dialogue. In other words, its a full dramatization and the series is unbelievably good.
