There are some who trash on this movie but I really like it. We get more focuse on Edmund and Lucy and I'm so happy we got at least three movies in this beloved franchise. Edit: The actor who plays Eustace, Will Poulter, is actually pretty good too. He is also in the maze runner series if you ever get to it

Honestly the only complaint I have is that Narnians barely appear in the film. We went from 1) a magical creature only world to 2) magical creatures vs humans to 3) a second dimension for humans with a few magical creatures (although it technicaly does make sense since most of the Narnians were killed in Prince Caspian). The only magical creatures who appear in this film are two minotaurs, two fauns, a satyr, a dwarf, and a talking mouse. No centaurs, cheetahs, rhinos, minoboars, gryphons, tigers, wolves, ogres etc.

I always love how at the beginning when the painting is leaking water heavily we see Eustace freaking out in the background and Lucy and Edmund just smiling widely. XD

The mist is tempting Edmund with power. He gave into that desire in the first movie. By the second he was more solidified in his role as Peter's strategist, yet when they came back home the second time, he wasn't content with just being a kid. He tried to join the military so that he could maybe climb through the ranks and get to that leadership position again. So that need to be looked at with admiration and to be in charge and call the shots is still in him, it just isn't as petty as it was in the beginning. Now he's coming from a place of, "I used to fight wars, and lead armies," but he's stuck in a kid's body and nobody is taking him seriously. Then when he comes back to Narnia in the third movie, he tries to assume that High King position since Peter isn't there, but now instead of being second to Peter, he has to be second to Caspian, which would cause a grain of jealousy to form. So of course with the mist seizing on people's darkest desires, it would try to tempt him with the prospect of power again.

There's a part of me that also wonders if Edmund's greatest fear is that he is still that child who gave into the White Witch, that he hasn't changed at all. The mist seems to show that in my opinion, as though it's trying to tell him that by the White Witch even appearing in the mist tells him that he's not over that desire for power. So it's less the White Witch herself, more the fact that she is there, if that makes sense

I truly wish they had shown what really happened to Eustace when he turned back into a boy. It’s such a transformative scene, both literally and figuratively. That’s my biggest complaint. That, and how they had to give the movie a villian, ie The Mist and The Serpent being sort of merged into something they absolutely weren’t in the book. But a fun film overall. I wish they would have continued the series, the next book is my favorite. I wish to someday see The Deep Realm.

One of my favorite lines in the book is when they are talking to Ramandu (the star-girl's father). Eustace says, "In our world a star is a ball of flaming gas." Ramandu responds, "Even in your world, my son, that is not what a star is but only what it is made of."

Not that I take it too seriously for our world, but it's a fun thought... Also, Lucy's cordial is made "from the juice of the Fire-Flower that grows in the valleys of the Sun", so their Sun is very different from ours, too!

I find the book the most detailed and complex to be adapted for a movie. I think the director and writers tried to do the best they could with the limited time they had. Maybe in the series they have more freedom and space to adapt better. One scene that I prefer in the movie than in the book was the moment when Eustáquio reveals that he is the dragon; in the book they quickly guess that he is the dragon, it was more exciting that he revealed himself writing with fire

@@Ammeeeeeeer Not sure what your thing is against allegory, but, aside from that, ye olde beauty was more of a medieval trope, not a Christian one. In fact, Tolkien makes this pretty clear in his portrayal of Aragorn, specifically the riddle about "all that is gold does not glitter". The Bible is also very clear that Satan is not a red devil with horns and a forked tail, but rather appears to be bright and joyous in deceit.

Dawn Treader is my favorite from the series. Part of why I love it is because there is no big bad. It’s an adventure story that has ups and downs and some truly memorable moments. The mist was definitely a miss step for me but I still love this movie because I get to see Eustace’s arc and relationships grow in such a beautiful way. His last lines in the movie live rent free in my mind and give me the warm fuzzies every time I think of them.

The accent change comes from a director change. In Prince Caspian they were, obviously, based on Spain and the conquistadors; for this one the new director reverted back to him having the British accent from the books.

The swords were added. In the book Caspian was seeking the Telmarine lords; Bern, Rhoop, Octesian, Mavramorn, Revilian, Argoz, Restimar, and Rhoop. They find Lord Bern in the Lone Islands (but not in prison), Octesian on Dragon Island, Rhoop on the Dark Island, one o n Goldwater/Deathwater Island, and (as shown in the movie) Argoz, MAvramorn, and Restimar on Ramandu's Island.

I've been reading the books since I was a little kid, and I actually don't mind the changes they made between the book and the movie. As much as I like the book (it's actually my favorite of the Narnia books), I get the want for a more focused and pressing story, and I enjoyed the movie regardless for the most part.

They were there to ensure Caspian didn't abandon Narnia, and to ensure Edmund had the exposure and change to be good for Narnia in the future. He is in the last 3 books and important in the storyline in them

When I saw the movie, I was a little disappointed that they added the whole "Green Mist" villainy, but I also completely understand it, too! One of the rules that is laid in the Narnia books is that the children wouldn't be called to Narnia unless they were direly needed, and the book "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" there weren't really any incredible perils that needed faced. Like they said, it was more like the Odyssey, where they just sailed from Island to Island and faced a few deadly perils, but nothing that was Narnia-shaking. The most important point that this book brought about was "getting Eustace into shape" as the hero of the next book, "The Silver Chair" (which is my favorite, thank you Tom Baker).

An interesting fact, is that according to Lewis' step son, this was supposed to be the last of the books originally. It wasn't just this book but throughout that the reason they were brought to Narnia was for them and not for Narnia that they were brought to Narnia each time. Aslan explicitly said here at the end why they were brought to Narnia: that He is known by another name (Jesus) in our world, and they were brought to Narnia so that by knowing Him in Narnia, the would better know Him in our world. In Prince Caspian something similar is said to explain why Peter and Susan wouldn't be returning, "Your brother and sister have learned what they can from this world. Now it's time for them to live in their own."

Thing is, stories of any kind always need a conflict. This does not always = villain though ^Conflict can come from outside the person (environment, people - whether evil, or good-vs-good with different ideas of what's right - a force of nature, etc). Or it can come from within, ie their own demons. And in this movie, while there is an outward force of evil at work, the main conflict ultimately came from within and struggling against that, and I personally enjoyed that take

I liked this movie and was bummed when they didn’t go on to make The Silver Chair. The time difference between Earth and Narnia isn’t a set thing. That’s why Caspian can still be young here, but hundreds of years pass another time. They get pulled in to the time they’re needed.

Can’t believe it’s the end of Narnia movies but here I am still wishing for more sequels 🥺 sadly bro 18:43 I’m telling you this with utter disbelief that there are people who actually don’t get the temptation point even after watching the mist so I think adding the mist there was still a great point to emphasise temptation. In Eustace’s case, the temptation was already there but it became a greed since there was so much gold around him but he chose to went after that one bracelet that a dead man is wearing, it gave him a taste of his own medicine. It’s clear the Lord also died because of the bracelet. Also now if you rewatch the movies, you’ll get Edmund was always traumatised by the white witch. He was really and immature kid when he betrayed his siblings. He wanted power, he had a taste of power and he had immense guilt for many things that got sacrificed for him such as Mr Tumnus, the fox, Aslan and his siblings. That’s why he wanted to defeat white witch in the battle field both as form of redemption and in an attempt to save his brother which he kinda did so by breaking the magical staff of white witch. He then spends the rest years of their reign as his brother’s strategist and bringing justice to the kingdom until he just like Peter was forced to become a kid again. Them having to relive their lives as kids as again when they wanted to do more than just sit around and hear the war news. They were called back again only to realise their whole reign is destroyed and they’ve become nothing but just OLD legends but returning as kids again. Now they have to bring back their former glory and peace to their dead kingdom with little Narnias they’re left with. The reason Edmund didn’t raise his disappointments about being turned into the boy again is because they’re already stuck with the belief of Lucy and the dispute of authority between Caspian and Peter. He knew his brother is in a desperate spot so he might give into the White witch just like he did so he got rid of white witch again (remember how he closed his eyes in stabbing her so that he wouldn’t be tempted). It’s in this movie he thought he finally had the chance to actually go for things he was capable off, being a strategist and helper of the realm but even now no one takes him seriously cause he’s still seen as a kid and lower than Caspian in status. Edmund is the most complex sibling, he has insecurities about his status and capabilities (if we think about it, he actually right that he is better than Peter and Caspian both strategically and combative, plus diplomatic experience) so that gives him superiority complex that vis being wasted on his actual potential. However the mist is playing with their already disturbed minds so it’s bringing back his desires for powers that only Jadis (white witch) used to promise him. His temptation are intriguing him to go for power (Jadis) but he keep telling himself that she’s dead (that greedy side of his in first movie is dead). In the last moment he was even questioning himself whether he truly wants power (that’s why he was seeing Jadis) but when Peter’s sword in his hand shone, he knew in that moment that all he wanted in the end was to help put down evil and it’s fine if he doesn’t always get the chance to heroic moments like these. Being heroic is not about waiting for opportunities to fight but it’s about making sure that no fights have to occur. That is the moment Edmund learned his true lesson just as Lucy did hers. They were ready to go home now. [Sorry for this long rant😂🙏] Eustace/Reepicheep interactions were best part of this movie 😍 being a dragon changed Eustace for good as a person. Even Caspian learning his lesson. Did you guys noticed the parallels from Stardust?😂 side note: I kinda miss you guys pausing the reaction to discuss things but likewise you guys are still my favourite reaction channel. I personally like this one better than 2nd movie for its adventure theme.

Re: Lucy’s character arc If memory serves, Lewis wrote the books for a young relative (a granddaughter or a niece?) and some of the travails of growing up. Lucy was a stand-in for that young relative. Lewis was committed to the idea that worrying about being “grown up” is the least mature thing one can do.

Would've worked much better as a season of television, but without splitting the story up or adding some sort of through-line (the mist 🙄) it would've just felt meandering

Don't know if anyone ever explained it: Narnian Time is just "Off" from Earth Time. The way it works, is that: Going from Narnia to Earth, will ALWAYS be put back a few seconds after when you left. No matter what. However, going from Earth to Narnia is a gamble. It could be literally anywhere from 5 Min after you left, to 1,300+ Years like in the last movie. (Edit) The first book is from when the Professor was a kid, and went to Narnia AS it was being created by Aslan. And was also the one who had BROUGHT the White Witch to Narnia. (She was originally from a THIRD world, that was dying.) And her rise to power is led up to, in it. And while 50-60 years pass on Earth between Book 1 and 2, only about 120-150 years had passed in Narnia. Instead of the millennia you think it WOULD be.

Idk if you've read the books but the movies don't do it justice, however I was one of the people who watched the first movie before reading the books so I'm able to still love them separately. If you read the books or haven't, it would be interesting to see what you think of the movies. 🥰

rewatching these movies it's hitting me that i feel like part of the reason the second two movies didn't hit the same as the third is that the first was allowed to just be itself, but these two were trying to emulate other franchises. Caspian was trying to be like lord of the rings - extremely stylistic, dark, an epic battle at night (Helm's Deep), trees coming in clutch at the last minute and saving the day (ents destroying Isengard and destroying the remaining orcs after helms deep). Dawn Treader is trying to be Pirates of the Caribbean - there is this mysterious evil magic at sea that must be stopped.

This was more of an Eustace story. Each had a lesson to learn but the one with the largest need and the greatest change was about Eustace. As annoying as he was, I loved the relationship that developed between him and Reepacheep. I was sad that Reepacheep chose to enter Aslan's country, but in the same place, I would do the same thing. A chance to enter heaven and be with Aslan (Jesus) forever now - Yeah, I would jump at that.

Thank you so much for reacting to this amazing trilogy. While I know the “Other Name” dialogue is present in The Silver Chair, I always felt it was better for this story. To me, this version of Narnia is more from Lucy’s perspective, so I thought if this was the last one for this trilogy that it was best to have Lucy close the door as represents her finally growing up. 👩🏻‍🦰🧑🏻‍🦱👦🏼🧔🏻‍♀️🐭🦁🕊❤️💛

“The strongest flashlight ever made…” 😂 Honestly, this is a weird thing to know, but a flashlight from WWII would absolutely have survived all that. They made thier stuff to be frickin DURABLE. Back then, not only did they want the tool to be able to work in a war zone, but most things in general were just made to last, as compared to now, when things are made fast and cheap. The end result is a flashlight that looks hilariously overpowered to us, but is actually historically accurate. 😂

Too bad this was Edmund's last, the actor was great in this. Glad the Caspian actor went on to other projects like HBO's "Westworld". Not holding my breath for another movie of this series, I'm happy enough with these three, warts and all 😁

I rewatched this trilogy a few months ago and I was crying and breaking down in the end of both the second one and the last one because of the fact that they cannot come back. This has been on their minds for years and then they all of a sudden had to forget about it. It was my comfort show as a child and it is still sooooo sad to me. 😢

This is relatively common knowledge at this point, but the entire Narnia series was written as a sort of allegory to Christianity (not so much in a 1 to 1 context, but in mirroring themes.) When Aslan says "you know me by another name in your world", he is referring to Jesus Christ (whom he is expressly meant to embody) and "Aslan's Country" is supposed to represent Heaven.

The book is much less of a plotted story, it’s more just about the journey than any through plot. This book was actually my favorite as it was just a lot of exploration of the world, but the movie tries to force in a definite story, which I think was much more to its detriment than its assistance.

The mist and the swords were both just added. The book was mostly a story of a journey and the only real antagonist is the challenges of the journey and their internal weaknesses. The way I have put it is that I might have liked it okay with a different name, but really hate it with the name of "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" because they gutted a story I loved.

Lilliandil does become Caspian's wife and therefore the Queen of Narnia, between The Dawn Treader and The Silver Chair. Unfortunatley she gets killed some time before the events of The Silver Chair.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader just celebrated it's 70th anniversary last September 🥰 there's a lot of things i want to point out in this film but i honestly dont have the time. I'm happy you enjoyed this trilogy!

I’ve never read the books, but to me what’s missing was more Narnian people. Each and each movie their were less. Also, yes I agree it’s more like Edmund needed Narnia rather than Narnia needed them.

This film was not as good as the first ones but still I enjoy it because we got to see a lot more of Edmund and Lucy. The two young ones who where just follow Peter and Susan thought life and also a battle.

OK, so if they'd continued the series and had done 'The Silver Chair' (though someone did point out it was an almost perfect ending to have it be Lucy closing the door since she was the first one to open the cupboard door in the first place), who do you think would've been cast for: Jill Pole The Lady of the Green Kirdle Puddleglum The 'gentle giants' of Harfang the owl council The black knight (no spoilers) What I otherwise wanted to see was Eustace and Jill to be given a tour of the castle and to learn more about Narnian history (since Eustace only got a bit of it) including (through pictures in the main hall) the stories of King Frank and Queen Helen, and of the four Pevensie siblings (having ruled what I think was called the Golden Age of Narnia) and maybe even talking a bit about Archenland and about at least some of the people we met in 'The horse and his boy'

The amount of time that passes in Narnia relative to Earth is not a consistent thing. A year on earth could be a thousand in Narnia or just a few years

i think something worth noting about edmund is that he's, as you mentioned, trying really hard to grow up. and the manifestation of the white witch is, to me, a manifestation of the fear that he will never be able to do that. if edmund still thinks about what happened with the witch decades later -- still fears her -- then that's an indication to me that he is afraid of himself, who he could have been. who he was. he wants to believe he is a different person now, that he's king edmund the just, and not edmund pevensie, the young boy who betrayed his family and almost died for it. not to mention he was definitely kidnapped and tortured by her which is a pretty valid reason to remain afraid of her, in my opinion.

There was no mist or disappearing people or swords in the book. Pretty much all of the dangers they faced were present in the book, but unconnected. I guess it's screenwriting 101 to try to tie everything together into a unified pilot but I don't think it worked too well in this movie.

Why would Aslan give Telmarine lords gifts to protect Narnia?

Not sure if anyone has explained this yet but I read the whole series not that long ago and the passage of time was explained. Essentially the main people are called to Narnia when they’re needed or need Narnia therefore there’s no specific ratio of time passing with the real world compared to Narnia. A year could pass in our world and 1300 would go by in theirs like prince caspian or a few hours goes by here while decades pass like the first movie. There was even a line in one of the books mentioning how no time could pass in Narnia while the real world continued on until the kings and queens were needed once again. So time doesn’t even pass more in one world than the other and it’s never consistent

I first saw Will Poulter in Son of Rambow, where he really impressedme. I recommend watching that movie! (Though probably not for the channel, I doubt it would get you many views.)
