Oh! I need to tell you a story about John Farnham! Back in the 80s, I went to one of his concerts and as expected, he blew the roof off the place! After the concert ended, many people from the audience headed to the multi-level carpark behind the concert hall, but instead of getting in our cars and driving off, we stayed and hung out along the walls of each level, our hearts still full of love and appreciation for this wonderful Aussie larrikin! It took a long time before he finally exited the concert hall via the rear exit, and suddenly he was bombarded with applause, cheers, whistles, and shouts of his name from a few thousand faces leaning out of the carpark. He had a huge grin on his face and after a couple of minutes of all this loud cheering and applause, he raised his arms and repeatedly lowered them to get us all to be quiet. When you could hear a pin drop (because we respected him enough to obey his request), he shouted back at the top of his lungs, “THANK YOU!!!” And made a big heart gesture of love back to us! The cheers went back up again as he got into the waiting vehicle and was driven away, arm waving out of the window! None of us will ever forget that night! 😃🥰🥰🥰

An interesting fact is, the 1960s band The Easybeats who had a huge international hit with 'Friday on my Mind' (Number 10 at 18:01) and considered Australia's version of Herman's Hermits featured George Young and Harry Vanda. George is the older brother of Angus and Malcolm of AC/DC fame. As songwriters, Vanda and Young wrote many well known worldwide hits for many artists between the mid 60s and mid 80s. They also wrote hits for George's kid brothers including AC/DC's 'It's a Long Way to Top' (Number 3 at 21:37).

John Farnham is known as the voice in Australia. Number one rule with Farnsey is you must listen to the live version. And I would recommend a series on John starting with “YOU’RE THE VIOCE ” (live with the Melbourne symphony orchestra), his version of the beetles “HELP” (again live with the Melbourne symphony orchestra. NB this song was his final encore of this 2/3 hour concert). Then duets “PLEASE DON’T ASK ME” with Olivia Newton John and “WHEN SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY BABY” with Jimmy Barnes (for this live clip avoid the version with the pink ostrich puppet). Big fact John Farnham had at least one number one hit every decade for five consecutive decades from the sixties to the naughties but if you really want to know who John Farnham is check out John Farnham Celine Dion interview (same reaction video as but after YOU’RE THE VOICE) and then if you want to do a five day Farnsey marathon check out the you’re the voice duet with John and Celine.

He actually also had number 1 hit records in 2015 amd 2016 as well. So that's 6 decades of number one hits Both those albums were duets with ONJ so maybe that's why noone ever counts them And not forgetting you're the Voice popped back into number 2 spot on 2023. And 2024 the story of his life won an LOGIE Award for best documentary thos year...

(it's not the song of Waltzing Matilda) I didn't realise you were into music since watching your video's, but as other's here have mentioned, our music history is long and varied and if you would like to do some music reactions whilst learning about our country you only need to ask for suggestions. G'day Kev. If you don't know Khe Sanh then you wouldn't know any of Chisel's songs. I would just youtube search the band name and look for the earliest stuff first. Cheap Wine ~ Standing on the Outside ~ Flame trees ~ When the war is over ~ Bow River ~ Rising sun ~ Choir Girl ~ Saturday Night ~ Forever Now ~ Breakfast at Sweethearts ~ Four Walls ~ You got nuthin I want ~ My Baby ~ Ita (laughing - you might need to be an Australian to understand Ita.) ~ Shippin Steel ~ Goodbye Astrid, Goodbye. When I was going into high school, in the early 1970s, they told me I should read Hemmingway, because Ernest Hemmingway "Captured the spirit of an age." You want to know what the people and the culture and the mind-set was like between the wars and through the depression, what it felt like to live through those times ~ read Hemmingway. Well that's what Cold Chisel did. You want to know what it was like going from child to adult in Australia in the late '70s and early '80s ~ listen to Cold Chisel, because they captured the spirit of the age. Nobody else ever did that the way Chisel did. Cold Chisel were the voices in your head, in both the good times and the bad. You want to know what it's like to be part of a riot? Listen to Star Hotel. Choir Girl ~ you've got to understand, choir girl was written to be sung by a women. It's about helping a female friend through trauma, recovering from a broken relationship or rape or the death of a child or something. It was never meant to be sung by a very masculine young guy, yet it became terribly powerful when it was.

Most Aussies do not refer to the band as AC/DC when talking about them but by a slang word or nickname sounding more like "Acca-Dacca". Maybe you have to be Australian to really appreciate it or to say it right.

You must watch the full clip of this song!!! I'm gen x and when I went backpacking in the 90s (hit Vancouver, Salt Spring Island and Whistler 😉) I was told that if I'm lost in a crowd and want to find an Aussie, scream out "Am I ever gonna see your face again". Look at the structure of Khe Sanh. It is 6 stanzas of story, followed by 3 repeated choruses. A normal song goes stanza, chorus, stanza, chorus etc, but Khe Shan gives the story of a Vietnam vet coming home and the PTSD he has to cope with fitting back into society. Or not fitting. When Jimmy Barnes was given this song, he had 20 minutes to put it to memory before he had to sing it on stage. Don Walker was on piano with the band and he wrote it, had it, gave it to Jimmy and said “Let’s do this tonight.” One of the greatest Aussie songs ever. It was the official Australian song for the cricket team when Steve Waugh was captain (Google is your friend. 😬) Barnesy went out and sang it perfectly. And when you read the lyrics it can really hit you in the feels…if you’re my age, anyway. (64)

Kev, as a young bloke of about 22or23, back in the early 80s ,I was lucky enough to see the Divinyls play live every week for about a year. They played in a small pub in Kings Cross Sydney. My cousin and I would go to this pub for a cheap meal and a beer, and to watch the band play. And one night, Chrissy and the Divinyls just started up playing live. So we went back every week until they got too big for that small pub and moved on to bigger and better things.

He's an hilarious comic actor and you have many of his mannerisms. I was blown away by how good he is as a dramatic actor too. Check out "Becky". I love music reaction vids. They are so subjective and tend to open a Pandora's Box of opinions, lol! Gotye is actually Belgian-Australian. He's released a handful of studio albums but is obviously best known for this song. My personal fav Australian bands are Crowded House and INXS. Waitaminnit..................no Tina Arena or Natalie Imbruglia, even in the honorable mentions? NOOOOOOOOO.
