There's a happy little C note. There we go. A little Pressin Blue, a little Midnight Black key. Its your world. I can picture Bob Ross reprising Paul Benedict as the Mad Painter sketch from Sesame Street to this music. Except in this case the numbers would have major or minor in front of them.

My little secret. Reversal of what I did 20 years ago. Every instruction that you qualify as simple, boring or unmusical, I take those to music shed ,for indepth study, before tackling the main core of the instructions at hand. I find this a very rewarding way of studying music. Please consider this pedagogical approach. Thanks again . Hilary from Aruba.

Thank you so much Oliver !!! This is a great lesson and my road to mastering jazz! What happiness it was when I finally managed to master the Difficult Job !!! There is no limit to my delight! Earlier I could only dream about it, having a classical music education. And you opened this way of jazz improvisation for me and you are the best teacher in the world! Jazz is like higher mathematics in music, like Chinese for a beginner. Your lessons are so clear and calm and very beautifully and efficiently done, and this is a huge work and a huge gift. Thank you for your kindness, you have a huge heart filled with love. I don't know what else to say, I cried when I found out that you are a bus driver. I love that this gives structure to improvisation practice. I need repetitive exercises like this to lock in hand memory that can be used for improvisation later. I am thinking that there is no such think as complete improvisation, but rather, that improvisation is really using pieces of hand memory from exercises like this. One of your best lessons Oliver. Thanks for your educational research... After having explained for a long time about musical chords, maybe now it's time to explain the improvisational musical lines: How to build and how they move according to standards and models. The construction of the improvisational line is historically the least explained part of jazz lessons... but now we finally have you, Mr Prehn

Dear Oliver, as I told you when I signed up with Patreon, I was an intermediate jazz pianist who got stopped in my tracks because of musician's dystonia in one of my fingers. But I switched to the vibes and discovered you were lessons at the same time, and I feel I was given the blessing from the heavens! Your lessons apply beautifully to their instrument. I will keep you posted as I progress through your non-sequential lessons mostly sequentially (just so I don't miss any). I would encourage other budding jazz musicians who play instruments other than the piano to go through these lessons as well. Your emphasis on improvisation applies beautifully to the solo instruments as well as the piano. Thank you again so much again!

Wonderful, just like all your videos. My teacher told me that, when it comes to jazz, the thing he most wishes he had spent more time practicing years ago is running his arpeggios in different inversions, up and down in thirds. This video is a fantastic illustration of why doing just that can be so useful, and how to apply the fruits of those drills.
