So the story is ( apparently) of Cupid & Psyche! ( gender swapped version ) . So she represents Cupid & the guy represents Psyche . She fell in love with him so she stripped herself of her powers & was reborn as a mortal ( the rain scene ) , hence why in the next MV he could see her. As it was a forbidden love , Venus ( Tony ) made him fall in love with someone else as punishment. There’s no clear understanding yet of who the girls represent, but maybe muses?

YES!!! In addition to your input, the painting they were looking at (when Hoyeon fell in love with Micol Vela) is "L'Amour et Psyché" by Francois-Edouard Picot. In Greek mythology, Aphrodite (the goddess of love) asked her son, Eros (Roman counterpart: Cupid) to make Psyche fall in love with a hideous beast, but Eros ended up falling in love with Psyche instead. Psyche became Eros' bride, but he told her to never look at his face. Every morning Eros would leave their bed, only to come back during the evening when it's pitch dark so Psyche wouldn't see his face. It's interesting how other than being gender swapped, they were thrown in the reversed situation. Eros didn't want to be seen, but in the MV, Hoyeon desires to be no longer invisible. Back in the mythology, Psyche was punished for (breaking her promise by) gazing at Eros' sleeping face. I think she was kicked out and then out of desperation to be able to see Eros again, she begged Aphrodite and the goddess gave her 4 tasks. Long story short, she completed it and they were reunited. But in the MV Hoyeon was supposed to be Eros and her task was to help people fall in love In this video at 5:20, she observes the couple (1st to appear in mv side A) relationship fall out. Hoyeon was so preoccupied with her obsession(?) with Micol that she neglected her task and became too greedy/ blinded by love and even cast away her identity as Eros/matchmaker just to be with him. Soooo, Tony Leung, who was supposed to be Aphrodite, punished Hoyeon (who neglected her task) by turning her back into the 'being' she was, and snapped Micol back to reality where Hoyeon did not exist?? The ending part, maybe the painting was some sort of omen. Hoyeon met Nicol at the museum and the painting heavily implies connection between them. The Newjeans members were both observers and warning to Hoyeon, I think. They didn't do anything that directly affect Hoyeon, but they appeared to her as mortals and as nymphs.

There's the popular interpretation of Psyche and Eros going around, justifiably so, supported by the painting and the events in the video. However, something interesting I realized that I didn't the first time around was that the guy (presumably Psyche) already knew her in a way. That is, he dreamed of her. In the museum scene of side A, Danielle sings "dreaming of each other" while they are in front of the symbolic painting. This is further supported by when he sees her human form after she sheds her divinity, as we briefly see he was already painting her. If you think about it, it's not surprising that her attachment to this mortal manifested through his dreams since she was hovering around him and even over his sleeping body.

I thought the painting of Hoyeon was signifying her as the guy's muse as he finally can see her but since it looks like he's already painting the moment she showed up at his door, it makes sense that his dreaming of her and that Hoyeon's fascination at him at first isn't coincidence but fate! thank you for sharing that!

I feel like this song and mv have literally elevated them to a new level artistically, just like when ditto was released before and even before when the hypeboy mv's were first released after attention. The fact that they got Hoyeon and managed to get a cameo from Tony Leung is crazy, I feel like many more high caliber actors might want to star in their mvs from now on as well as famous directors.

I love when she was on top of him on the bed and then looked at the mirror ! I like to believe that she wanted to look at herself after looking at him to make him fall in love with her but then she realized that she doesn't exist in his world which made her get rid of her powers and become human just so he can love her. I'm SO HAPPY you get it in your first watch just like I did! Especially at the elevator part at the beginning, I knew she was a cupid entity. So the more I look into it, its a retelling of the greek myth of Eros and Psyche. I think Tony Leung is either another cupid or is Aphrodite himself. While the girls are the muses narrating the story. Such a magnificent and masterpiece of a cinematic music video which we don't usually get in kpop! So she is the goddess of love, anyone she looks at falls in love with someone. But the guy didn't react and she becomes fascinated and starts to fall in love. In the end of part A she becomes human, she feels the rain for the first time signifying she's human and she can feel. Then in part B she is fully human and falls in love with him they date. At the end the man who is the new god of love he makes the guy fall in love with someone else and she experiences heartbreak

yeah this is UK garage and 2-step. One of the best electronic genres ever made. Was really really big in like the late 90s and early 2000s. I learned about this genre through video games of that era.

UK Garage started as an offset of house music.. when it started it was much more clubby and underground with mc's and rappers talking fast over the fast beats.. the likes of artful dodger and craig david kept the music as it was but replaced the hard and stron raps and mc'ing with softer r'n'b vocals and softer melodies alongside the superfast offset beats and house and garage of club banging days became mainstream and turned into uk soulful house and garage... that was the version that the masses loved and went straight tinto the pop charts... this is what newjeans are making with this ep
