Satters Can I take it that you've never been to Goathland by road? It's quite a steep decent from the Whitby to Pickering road, especially the last stretch. Getting there is also a bit of a challenge - the climb up Birk Brow is fairly steep with fairly sharp bends. After that the next worse is Blue Bank on the A169 coming out of Sleights. None of these climbs are impossible, but do make the job a lot harder.

Yes BoB, normally thats how you would marshal an engineers train,according to their specific requirements which would be posted on a document called the Ballast Circular.

Built by EMD in the States and most of the class were inherited by DB from EWS an American Company!

Chris Sharp Cleveland Bridge and Enginnering builds bridges in China and have done since at least 1906 (the last bridge they built there that I know of was the Jiangyin Suspension Bridge in Jiangsu Province of 1999).
