I think Jessica's continual success was intimidating to Nick. He said in the Valentine's episode that he doesn't not like having/being in control. So imagine having a partner like Jessica, who is both beautiful & a bit ditzy, climbing more than you in a career that you are ALSO in. As a man, I think that made him feel like less of one & that likely contributed to their marriage falling apart. Maybe not the main reason, but it definitely played a role! Even with all her spending habits & the large chunk of money she had to pay out for the divorce because they had no prenup, she STILL went on to become massively successful. I don't necessarily consider her a style icon, but the girl learned some serious marketing skills to keep her & her businesses booming & relevent.

1:52 - Honest question - who is he trying to market to? I'd love to hear the thoughts of someone with expertise in this area. 98 Degrees' fan base was girls/women, right? So, who is he trying to market to when he has stripper-like dancers but then takes his shirt off? He managed to turn off both female & male fans. Plus, boy bands were just out of style by then, and so was he, by association. I think Enrique Iglesias' Hero song/video (2001) is a good example of something from that era that was sexy and appealed to both male & female fans. Watching this as a 31 year old adult now, after working years in film, television and reality television and just having more common sense I guess when it comes to television than a 13 year old …(although I must say, it seemed suspect to me as youngster I just didn’t get it yet) I’m noticing how lazy this was edited, especially with the whole repeating things they all said earlier in the episode in different places or like 4 times (they really can’t even cut off some of it to make it sound a teeny bit more realistic!?) or footage of someone like 5 times making the same expression. It’s baaaaaddddd. Yes MTV, you got me as a 13 year old. As an adult I see you may be some of the laziest editors I’ve ever seen on reality tv. People aren’t *that* stupid. And the editing overall to make them seem worse than they are as humans (Nick more mean, even though he does seem it. Jessica more ditzy, even though she does seem it, their marriage being crappy… even though it does seem bad to me now) Is just lazy and shady AF. And also unnecessary. It’s still entertaining without that
