Thanks Paul. Good to see Newnham up close...after seeing it from the other side of the River Severn. Happy yellow daffodils and a sweet photo of the children on that bridge. 🙂🙂

Thank you Cathy! Yes, it is a most charming place - very wealthy too, at some point, judging by those buildings. That victorian photo really is lovely, isn't it? Take care, Paul

The photo of the Morris Minor Van reminded me of the 1970's when I commuted from Dursley to Tetbury to work as a boat builder at Hampton Moldings

Gosh, now that's a name I haven't heard for a very long time - Hampton Mouldings. I don't think they are going anymore. Yes, I haven't seen one of those vans for quite sometime. Hope you are having a good weekend. Take care, Paul

Good Morning Paul - greetings from a very spring like sunny morning in Poland. That was a lovely video. Superb photographs, lots of colours, very nice buildings and what a clean and tidy village. The then and now photograph of the bridge on The Green was fabulous. Nothing has changed. And the builders van, what a find that was.

Good morning Michael! Thank you! I have driven through this village many times (it sits on the main road from Gloucester to Lydney & Chepstow) but never stopped and explored it before. It has always intrigued me, because it looks nothing like others in the area. In hindsight, I should have done a photo from the same viewpoint as the old one, but I only decided to use the old one in the edit. Yes, the builders van! Right on the High St.! Curious! Hope you are having a good week! Take care, Paul

Really enjoyed that look around through your lens. A very relaxing watch and I particularly liked the criss cross wood fencing. Very satisfying to look at.

Thank you Michael! Yes, I have passed through many times, but never stopped and explored before. I was glad that I did. Very different to others in the area. As you probably already gather this was near where Ron did his Bullo Pill video and the very first attempt at a Severn Tunnel was started nearby. The railway tunnels are on the Gloucester - Chepstow line. Take care, Paul

As a visitor to Newnham on a number of occasions, I think your photographic essay brilliantly captures its allure: a splendid riverside setting on a bluff at the edge of the Forest of Dean; the pleasant variety of architctural styles; its rich historical associations from Roman times, and its marvellous churchyard high above the Severn, where you can sit in peace and observe it sweeping South towards Severn Bridge in the distance. Fairly easy to reach by bus, but a shame the station is long closed. Surely, a strong candidate for reopening. Great video. Thank you!

Thank you Malcolm! Yes, I can't believe I have never wandered here before. You neatly sum up its high aspect there - its wealth would have come from the river and doing trade with countries far and wide. Ron (PW) did a video looking at the railway here - sadly virtually nothing remains of the site itself. The early attempts at the first Severn Tunnel too. I can see why the Romans were here - similar sort of site to what I saw at Calstock in Cornwall. Cheers, Paul

At last a run of dry days! Thanks Paul,- it’s an area I’ve never visited.Beautiful views from the churchyard of the Severn snaking around a bend! I was intrigued by the builder’s van as the address was Tewkesbury ( many miles away) so I looked it up & no reference to that firm. Thanks again!

Thank you Diana! You went full on detective! Well done, I didn't have time to look at those signwriting details - lovely to see though. I suspect it was all made up. Yes, that's the Arlingham Loop on the other side - you could see Newnham Church when I did that section of The Severn Way in the late autumn last year. Take care, Paul

What a lovely walk. We live along a river so this felt quite 'homely' Signs of spring on the grass. Love the architecture..We have rows of homes and buildings too yet so different. Ah that van- Est ( my daughter's year of birth) Love the old telephone number on the door. Four digits, that's a bit more these days. enjoyed that with my coffee this Friday morning Paul. Thanks for sharing. 🇳🇱🙋♀🇳🇿👌

Mornin' Paul, That was a nice way to start the day, thank you. Enjoyed the photography and the backing music, what tracks were they? The clock tower was superb. The builders van, was it a Morris. its certainly an old one, lovely to see it still being used. Looks like spring is on the way there with all those Daffodils. Snow is forecast tonight and over the weekend. Tell Ron I'll be late tomorrow as I'll be out building snowmen!! All the best!!
@westcountrywanderings9 ай бұрын
Thanks David! Glad you enjoyed it. The tracks were: 1. 'Outcast' by Myuu 2. 'Heart Strings' by Coyote Hearing 3. 'Falling Snow' by Aakash Gandhi Yes, it was carpeted with daffodils, but the only trouble was there was substantial roadworks going on, and I had to work had to keep it all out of shot! Oh, gosh - I hope it isn't as bad as forecast! Happy snowbuilding! I will mention you in my comment tomorrow to Ron. Take care, Paul
