I suspected that R5 droid when Din went to Mandalore and it connected to Bo’s ship then magically the tie bombers showed up. He was probably sending a message to the NR and it got intercepted by Thrawn…I love how this season is bringing so many elements together…

I'd like to challenge some ideas: 1st, I highly doubt Thrawn remains a villain. If he and Ezra are both alive, they are probably working together to fight the Grysk in the Unknown Regions. 2nd, I highly doubt this ends negatively for the Mandalorians. Mandalore being completely cut off from communications is a perfect excuse to have this crew miss the sequel trilogy.

The Imperial Super Commandos ( led by Gar Saxon) were Mandalorian warriors loyal to the Galactic Empire. I think that there a few of them still around and they helped rescue the Moff

I think that some Imperial warlords hired some of the mercenary Mandolorians to free Moff Gideon. That's why there is the Beskar piece floating in the Imperial shuttle.

When the Moff got the dark saber he also collected Beskar like when one of the Moff's men paid Mando in season one for Grogu bounty with plates of Beskar that had been smelted in a Imp forge

The gathering of other clans leads to us finding a tiny offshoot of maybe three or four Mandalorians, which get brought back to the rest. We then find out that they were led by Gidion because he had the Darksaber, and that's why they saved him. Finding he no longer had the Saber, they left him to find the Saber again. They have to then defend the entire clan because of these misdoings. This is the way.

I believe its Thrawn because Morgan elsbeth had that pure beskar spear, showing the have access to Beskar....so the mught have used some kind of beskar projectile when the Landa ship was attacked, and it left shards of beskar

Fabulous episode - really starting to up the ante on the stakes and lay out potential forward plot lines for the main characters. Great to see Zeb in love action and a very good bit of animation. No one has mentioned yet but I love the design of the Corsair. Such a great call back to the legendary sci fi illustrator, Chris Foss. The design and pain job was so very reminiscent of his sci fi book covers and paintings. Love it!

I think this will tie into Bo-Katan “walking on both sides.” There were Mandalorians that joined the empire. I wouldn’t be surprised if Moff Gideon has an elite group of Mandos, maybe some of Mauls personal guards. Which will eventually tie into the Armorer and Bo bringing the stray Mandos back into the fold. This is my thinking.

Shame we didn't get any Mando boarding action on the larger vessel. It could have been a useful ship for them. Odd question but, have we ever seen beskar fragment before? If not, maybe it's not beskar as we normally know it. We've seen beskar in its unsmelted form(ingots) and purified form(armor) using the living waters of mandalor. Maybe whoever forged the piece the fragment was from didn't use or know the proper method to forge mandalorian steel. Like they had iron but didn't know how to make steel.

In Rebels there were Mandalorians that were 100% loyal to the Empire. There were even Mandalorian Storm Troopers with their own unique Mandalorian style Storm Trooper armor. It could be possible that after the fall of the empire, some of those Mandalorian Storm Troopers remained loyal and are working for Gideon or Thrawn.

Personally I think they're using Ahsoka to link to Thrawn in the unknown regions, which will link to either a lost Sith Empire or a reimagined threat like the Yuuzhan Vong. The Sequel trilogy only spans a small period of time- the writers could downplay the sequels by setting up this larger threat and use the various shows to ease audiences into it.

It's totally Thrawn. He's behind the larger (and better armed) than expected Imperial presence in the Outer Rim, and the freeing of Moff Gideon. Question is why did he bother with the latter? Gideon must be keeping the Force cloning operation pretty close to his chest for him to still be useful to Thrawn.

Love the discussion, but I want to throw another possibility out there. There is another Grand Admiral that as far as I know is still around that could be pulling the strings. That is one Rae Sloane. You made a great point in why the Mando's would leave a piece of their Beskar at the scene of the crime. As far as I know Thrawn is still missing. So I'm still not ready to flat out call him the Big Bad yet.

I believe this entire season is building to introduction of Thrawn, and I wonder if Gideon is his patsy. Maybe he plays it up that Gideon is leading the Mandalorian as a threat, and his forces are the security against them that the Republic can’t provide.

BTW, was Shard Gorian's last name, or is he literally a Shard of Gorian? What I mean is, he appears to be some sort of plant being, so maybe he was a 'cutting' off another Gorian? If he knows there are other iterations of Gorian still out in the galaxy, that would explain why he was more interested in killing settlers than saving his own life. Maybe we'll see another Gorian Shard in the future.

Why are you assuming someone is framing the Mandalorians for freeing Moff Gideon? I interpreted it as the Mandalorians took him to make him pay for his crimes. They even had the callback to when Din said Gideon was taken into Republic custody to pay for his crimes and Paz rebuffed him saying death would be justice.
